Really enjoyed this story about three women who meet up for a hen weekend. Friends since university, the women's lives have taken different directions. And Hannah, the hen, is madly in love with her fiance Ryan but struggling to cope with life with his two hostile children.

Over the weekend they find...more

Hannah is about to get married and when the stress of living with her fiance and his kids (who don't much care for her) gets too much, she plans a hen weekend with her old college friends. Sadie's twin babies don't leave much time for anything else and Lou's longterm, lazy boyfriend is impossible and she could do with a break.

The three of them head off to Glasgow to relive their college days, unwittingly meeting up Johnny, the boy who had lived above them and never quite worked up the courage to...more

I’m going to be honest and say that I didn’t enjoy this book. Don’t get me wrong it’s an okay story. But it’s just that – it’s an okay book. It’s quite slow to begin with. With so many characters introduced at one time; it was a bit difficult to remember who was who. Also it didn’t seem to go anywhere, it was quite a while into the book when the girls went on their great escape and ended quite abruptly. This is the first book I’ve read from Fiona G...more

I read my first book by Fiona Gibson only a couple of weeks ago and I loved it and couldn’t wait to read another book by this author, this time I have just finished her book The Great Escape and it doesn’t disappoint.

Hannah, Sadie and Lou have been great friends but their lives are pulling them in different directions. Sadie is now living in the country trying to look after her new baby twins and along the way seems to have lost herself among the breast milk and tantrums!

Lou is stuck in a dead-e...more

The Great Escape is the story of three best friends that need to take some time of their routines in order to be able to continue with them. This is the story os Lou, Sadie and Hannah, who find how a weekend off can save them from being unhappy the rest of their lives. For one of them it may mean a necessary radical change to pursue her real dreams, whilst for the other two it means realising that they have everything they need to be happy. This book is a good read for the reader looking to esca...more

So. Having seen the cover of this book, I have thought, wow, it will be something like "Mum on the run", for sure. Because the cover is just so, so beautiful, funny, full of colours. But no. It was nothing like "Mum..." at all and it confused me a little.
But anyway, although this book bored me a little, it was a good read: about some important things in life, like step - motherhood, love, friendship, adultery, becoming a parent, struggling with everyday life when we hoped in our youth for someth...more

Nice. Terrible word to use in a review but that's how I feel.

The characters were "nice" the plot was "nice" and they all ended happily ever after... "nice"!

Good as an easy holiday read which thankfully i'd got it for but didn't grab me or make me want to read on or feel much for the characters.
Sam
Nice easy read, quite predictable but what chick lit isn't?

I really enjoyed the character of Felix, I wish I met more men like him on public transport and I also spent a few chapters willing Johnny to man up and just go into the bar/cafe to speak to Lou! Thank god I got the result I was looking for on that front.

thoroughly enjoyed this book, very easy to read in short bursts whilst feeding my newborn son at all hours. would recommend to friends as a good, fun, easy read.

What a great read. Sometimes we all need to escape from reality once in a while to realise that what we have at home is actually pretty awesome. A good chick lit.
Heather
I'd probably give 3.5 stars if I could. It was a nice enough book, & I enjoyed it. It was, however, very predictable, and tied up far too neatly for me.
Harriet Johnson
It was a good book, but dragged in a few places and there ( I don't think) was a definitive point to the story

Quite a pleasant book, one of the better ones of this category. Not especially complex or well-crafted, but relatively enjoyable.
