A Fairy Tale Romance.

Declan Harper is determined to have the reluctant woman he desires as his bride, even if it means visiting the old witch who lives in the woods beyond Tanglewood, Mississippi to purchase a love potion. Declan Harper is a man who left the town of Tanglewood many years before and swore he'd come back and get vengeance on the people who slighted his family. Matilda Candy is the witch in the woods who makes candy. There are a couple of children, Hanson and Gretchen, who love to "get lost" in the woods and end up at the witch's house to eat her candy. Declan has a plan to make the most beautiful and desirable and well-respected and wealthy young woman in Tanglewood fall in love with him as part of ...more

Stand alone

I was intrigued by the reviews that mentioned Hansel and Gretel cause I just love fairy tale romances so I downloaded this kindle freebie faster than the blink of an eye and sure enough within the first paragraph we meet twins Hanson and Gretchen sneaking up on the candy house of the 'witch' Matilda. As this faerie story continues to unfold we meet the handsome brooding and now wealthy Declan who has returned to Tanglewood consumed with revenge for the

This one was just meh. The story was cute and entertaining but, I didn't care for the writing. Some parts of the book were serious and some parts felt like I was reading a children's book. I don't know if it was because it was inspired by a fairytale "Hansel and Gretel" or it's just the author's writing style. I've never read anything by the author so I can't compare. I will give this author another try, maybe this wasn't one of her better books.
CJ - So, you wanna play with magic?

The hero was a bit of an ass and Matilda deserved so much better, in fact I almost wish Ezra had been the main lead.

Also didn't care for the change of POV to Vanessa. Her comeuppance wasn't horrible enough.

Overall a cutesy book with character development issues and a weak plot.

A delightful love story.

A delightfully balanced story with love , humour, villains, and magic. I think that is about all anyone could ask for. If you want a fulfilling read this is definitely the best way to get it.
This was a fairytale done right

WoW. What a fun read. It has all the elements for a fairytale but with some more adult themes and some steam. I loved it and look forward to reading more of this author's work.

Is a great book to read

This was a cute spin on the Hansel and Gretel tale of the witch in the woods. Matilda Candy doesn't have a house made of candy, but it doesn't stop the two storytelling imps from coming in to bribe the candies she makes from her every week. Maybe she is a witch, maybe not, but the townspeople do come to her for more than her sweets. When Declan comes to her tiny hut with a request for a love potion, things quickly heat up between the upstart businessman and the young spinster. I would read more ...more
Into the Woods is a different take on the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. Matilda Candy is the "witch" who the kids visit almost daily because she makes such tasty candy. Most of the inhabitants of the town she lives in visit Matilda "under the cover of darkness" to procure various remedies, tonics, beauty creams, etc. Enter Declan. He has a plan for revenge in the works which involves marrying the much sought after Vanessa. He doesn't want to "waste time" courting Vanessa, so he decides the best ...more
I took a risk on this one since it was free on Amazon and by an author I had never read before. First off, I love the idea of a gentle retelling of a fairy tale and this one, a spin on Hansel and Gretel, is not a typical fairy tale to be retold. That being said, I really liked the heroine. She was smart, independent, and had a good sense of herself. The hero, on the other hand, was a bit of an inconstant jerk. Don't even get me started on the towns folk: ugh. So, in general, I really like the id ...more
This was an interesting take on Hansel and Gretel - from the witch's point of view

However, Hanson and Gretchen were down-right ANNOYING. As a matter of fact, most of the secondary characters were annoying! ha!
Good book, I just thought it was a little long, don't get me wrong I don't mind long books, but this one seemed long with stuff that didn't need to be in there. I did like the h and the H grew on me :) Sex ***
Oh my - this was a free kindle book. I thought it was going to be a silly fairytale retelling and I was not expecting to be blown away. A few chapters into the book, however, I was blown away and it proved to be much more than I bargained for. After looking it up on GR and seeing the other book cover you will know why this book was quickly deleted from my kindle before finishing - yuck! The book cover I was judging this book by was cute while the other cover really lets you know what you are rea ...more
I liked the way this story was set to Hansel and Gretel but was still its own story. It was in no way what I expected based on the title. I really enjoyed the read.

Charming little story

I'm sorry to say that I didn't like this book very much. It was slow and the characters didn't grow as the story went on. The interaction was stiff through the whole story.
For the first 20 pages or so I haven't realized it's not a contemporary.

Our H, Declan, had too many TSTL moments for me to enjoy this story. Overall, decent read.
I'd categorize the book under YA/NA genre but its a good story even with the youthful writing.

I like the way the author built tension and characters. Will read more by her.
