This is a transitional book. It is in the series Capital Mysteries. I really like how each book covers a different topic of something that goes on at the US capital. This book was about how each year the president pardons one turkey. This book is a fiction book. I like how the main character is the president's step- daughter because it is show that it is ok for the main character to be a female who can stand her own ground and does not have to be the stereo typical female. It was KC the presiden ...more

Recommends it for: children starting to read chapter books
We have really enjoyed reading the Capital Mysteries series by Ron Roy. We moved to the Washington DC area in 2010 and love that we are learning more about the various historic locations nearby. Our girls enjoy the exciting plots and I like that they are interested in seeing the places we read about.

This story has a bit of an 'animal rights' theme with KC starting a movement to have members of Congress pardon turkeys as well as the President. To add drama, there's a group protesting that turkeys

This is a clever and fun story that will appeal to youngsters just starting out reading chapter books. In addition to presenting a humane perspective, the Capitol Mysteries books include factual information about the workings of the US Government.

KC, the President's stepdaughter, is inspired when she learns about the President's annual "pardoning" of a turkey--she wants to asks the members of Congress to "pardon" their turkeys, as well. Soon, the Capitol lawn is filled with gobbling birds bound

I really love these Capital Mysteries, and this, #14 in the series, is no exception!

This time, K.C. (and Marshall) have a plan to ask Congress to pardon their turkeys just as the President (K.C.'s step-dad) pardons the "national turkey". Check-out this book to see what happens next!
