This is definitely a recovery from the previous book, but I am sadly disappointed in Jolie's continued attachment to Sinjin. I don't buy his excuse for going back in time, not at all. If all he wanted was to protect Jolie, ruining her life wasn't the way to do it. Not to mention, all that "extra" time she was supposed to have for training didn't happen because the Lurkers found her anyway and nearly killed her because she was so unprepared. And what was wrong with all of the training she receive...more
ETA: Waiiiit a second. This is the END of the series?! No way in hell does this read like a wrap-up. Yes, we get some answers, but the action is far from finished. Too much regarding the enemy threat is left unresolved, not to mention my feelings of dissatisfaction when it comes to Jolie fully embracing her role. A final parting line saying she's ready means little when it's something she's proclaimed several times before. I want proof, dammit!
Ugh. In that light, downgrade to 2.5.

Well, I have just finished reading this entire series in a week. I didn't realise until I went to find #6 that this book was the end of a series! It really just didn't read like a final book to me- even if there are plans for a spin off, it seems like a cop-out not to give the series a bit more justice and a proper send off.
I really love all these characters (although I will say that Rand seemed to become an extreme characture of himself from book 4 onwards). I love how Jolie finally seemed to...more

Jolie Wilkins has come a long way. She went from a physic who owned a small fortune-telling shop to a witch who is now the Queen of the Underworld. Currently she has a whole new set of problems though to deal with as she tries to find a way to take care of the Lurkers.
Even though Jolie and Rand are now bonded and together, the ever-present triangle with Jolie, Rand, and Sinjin still manages to pop up. Jolie loves Rand, but there is still some conflict between these three. To to...more

Once again, I am weighing in with the "guy's" opinion here. I found this to be the strongest offering of the series. Jolie did something that is, in y opinion, vital to making a series something special: She matured as a character. It can be very easy to simply write the character as a static creation that plows ahead with the same mindset in offering after offering. What makes this work is the same thing that works for Kim Harrison's characters...the character grows from life events just as a "...more

I have followed this series from its beginning and I have to say that I have some issues about this last installment. I will give an insight into my thoughts about the previous books so that maybe it will shed some light on my rating.
In the first book, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, I enjoyed Jolie's inner musings. They were witty and made her seem very real to me considering the world H.P. Mallory set her in. In Toil and Trouble, the author did a great job in presenting the full cast of char...more

Book 5 Jolie Wilkins Series
With her beginnings in a humble fortunetelling shop to finding out she is a witch, from being crowned queen of the underworld to time travel, with Jolie Wilkins you never know whats going to happen to her next. With her one true love finally at her side, and aren't we glad that is all worked out now and Jolie is finally with Rand (with Sinjin finally back to just friend status). Now as if she can just take care of the Lurkers problem life would be grand.

First off I will say I received this book as an ARC, not that it makes much difference since I still have a copy on preorder. H.P. stole my heart with her self-deprecating witch Jolie two years ago, since then I was hooked. I was quickly a member of Team Sinjin and fell madly in love with the series. I knew with this being the last book in the Jolie Wilkins Series, that it was going to be bitter-sweet. All good things must end, and in the end you want some good solid closure.

This is book 5 of the Jolie Wilkins series and is the last in this series. I am going to try not to give away any spoilers in my review. Jolie is a witch and Queen of the Underworld. She is now bonded with her warlock boyfriend Rand. Jolie, along with her panel of advisers, must now decide Sinjin Sinclair's punishment. She also has to decide how to deal with Bella who is being held as prisoner in the guest quarters at Kinloch Kirk. The Lurker threat is still ever present and Jolie finds herself...more

I was so happy to receive Something Witchy This Way Comes from Edelweiss, I delved right into it. At first I was kind of bored by it since the first couple of pages were all about the conflict between Rand, Sinclair, and Jolie… Come on! We’ve been over and over this whole jealousy issue.
But Holy Shit!!
Did it get good towards the middle! And the ending was something I never expected, actually to tell you the truth, the whole blasted book wasn’t what I was expecting as the last one in this series....more

Before I buy a book and begin reading I usually rely on comments, reviews and ratings by my friends and editorials. Having said that...I never buy a book by the cover, you know the old saying "Never judge a book by it's cover". Well, this time I looked at the ratings and reviews and thought it looked pretty promising. But what really sold me on this book was it's cover (it reminded me for some reason of that 1960's sitcom "Bewitched"). While the book was laced with sarcasm, wit and good old basi...more

The cover for this is (for me) within the same light as the previous two books. Cute and still carrying (though less so) the Betwitched t.v. show feel. I was really excited to get to this book, as I wanted to see how Jolie ends up. I have to say, I was just a bit disappointed. The only way I will be less disappointed is if this book isn’t the end of the series, and a new book just hasn’t come out yet.

Ever finish the final book in a series and not be totally satisfied that it’s over? Not just that you’ll miss the characters and you don’t want to say goodbye. More like there’s a lot more story to be told and it didn’t come to a satisfying end. Yep, that’s how I felt when I flipped to the last page of Something Witchy This Way Comes.
First, let me just say that I’m not bashing the book. Not by any means. I love this series and the characters are some of my favorites. I love Jolie’s ‘voice’ and H...more

::::::::SPOILERS HEADS UP::::::::::Ummm what? That was the ending.....of the entire series?!?!!? I'm so frustrated about the ending of this book that if I could go back, I wouldn't have read any of them at all. So much was left unanswered. For starters, wtf happened with the Lurkers? Or how about Bryn? Did she become part of the family? Am I supposed to use my imagination and think everything was happily ever after? Well fuck that, I want answers!

This book is truly the best one in the Jolie series. I am very sorry to see it end because there are so many things that remain unanswered. While this does not end with a cliff hanger like some of the others, there are many loose ends that scream for another story. But there will be a spin off that will continue the story line—cannot wait.

The more I read this series, the more Jolie is getting on my nerves. I'm glad it's coming to an end because I got bored. She's immature, sometimes really stupid, and too self-centred. I felt like striking her every time she used a we to talk about her pregnancy, "we're pregnant". I feel the same with Rand, too stubborn and inconsistent.
Concerning the plot, I didn't buy it. I think it's too weird and far fetched from the initial plot in the 3 books of the beginning. I didn't feel prepared for th...more

I am rating this book a 3 star because it did not do justice to ending the series. There were a lot of more questions created rather than answered. I was disappointed that Jolie had not moved beyond her obsession with Sinjin. Due to that fact her relationship with Rand never progressed emotionally to where I thought they should be. I love Mallory's characters, and in the first three books I loved Jolie. By book four, her constant self doubt and fickle behavior made me want to put the book down (...more

So this is a BIG improvement on the previous book. Jolie was back to the kick-arse girl we know and love although I'm not sure why she's still so attached to Sinjin, I mean I love him but I'm just a reader, if he'd treated me the same way I wouldn't give him the time of day. I'm thinking she just loves the attention. There where parts in this book that where soooo slow I feared I was going to flop to sleep right there, and then other times there was so much going on it was making my head spin. I...more
This book is full of revelations-good and bad. We find out more about Jolie's family and learn why her abilities surpass other witches and are introduced to the Lurkers and find out who they are.
I like the heroine, Jolie's character who goes through a whole lot in this book and she remained strong, smart and good throughout it all.

This book was by far my favorite in the series. Jolie finally sticks with a choice (making her more likable) and there were many new plot twists. Mallory has grown a lot as a writer by the end of the series. Then why only 3 stars? This is a terrible way to end the series. I am left with a million questions and could not believe she just ended it! Sure there is going to be a spin off series but I say if you're going to start something, finish it. Don't pass it off to a different character. The wa...more
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this, but not quite as much as the earlier books in the series. I couldn't put those down; this one I could. I blame it on the second half of this series finale being a little too much set-up-for-the-spin-off rather than conclusion-of-Jolie's-story. The first half had some great moments, but Jolie's incessant mental debate about Sinjin drove me nuts; that storyline should have concluded much earlier than it did, preferably in the previous book. (I wonder if he's a major char...more

I have read this series from the beginning and thought that the third and fourth books left me wanting more. But right from the start of Sometime Witchy I have been hooked. I love this book for many reasons, the main one being the bond between Rand and Jolie. I love the overprotective nature Rand plays on Jolie and the banter that they have when they talk to each other in their minds. I have never questioned who Jolie should be with and seeing as I was always "team Rand" I am happy they...more

I started my writing career as a self-published author and was lucky enough to hit both the Amazon and the Barnes and Noble bestseller’s lists with my two series, the Jolie Wilkins series and the Dulcie O’Neil series. Most recently I hit the New York Times and the USA Today lists with books in the Jolie series.
