Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Vol. 7 (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Renewal Editions #7)
Old friends and new enemies lurk in the mysteries surrounding Mugen Academe. The Death Busters crave the Hoste, the human energies, of Sailor Moon and her friends – and they’ll prey on the girls’ dreams and weaknesses to get it! Furthermore, prophetic dreams hint of “talismans” that could awaken a “Deity of Destruction.” Could these things be connected to the guardians’ po...more

This arc loses a little bit of speed midway through, mainly because the outer senshi protest way too much about not being able to work with the inner senshi. You're all sailor guardians, you're all going to fight together, get to it, dammit! Also, the focus lingers on Chibi-Usa a little too long for my liking during the early chapters, but I get that a connection has to be established between her and Hotaru.

If you've been following along with the series as either a long time reader or a new one, you'll be pleased with this volume. It's really well done overall.
Translation-wise, I feel like I'm reading an entirely new volume. I admit to being a little vague on exactly how the original Mixx/TokyoPop translation read, but I can honestly tell that there's a difference here. The only thing I raised an eyebrow over was the statement that Uranus was both a man and a woman. This was probably intended to r...more

I'm still really enjoying this manga and like the current storyline. I know I've mentioned this before, but it amazes me how different this is from the anime. Even though everything seems balanced, it still feels rushed to me.
Particularly in regards to the villains. This is something that felt lacking in the other storylines as well. All the minor villains-- Saphir, Rubeus, the sisters, the witches, etc-- get very little attention in the manga and are defeated fairly easily. They don't seem to s...more

In this volume the Infinity Arc continues, we get a better explanation of the "enemy," as well as the Outer Senshi finally explaining themselves (their talismans, their true mission, and why all the Senshi can't all work together). Note that in the Anime all of these things are just assumed and never really stated clearly, so having this definition really helps the reader grasp the entire plot.

assignment: describe this volume in five words.
"an explosion of shippy feelings"

If for some reason you've forgotten that Sailor Moon is essentially a shonen fighting manga with sparkles and high heels, you have definitely been reminded in this volume. This volume is packed with action and this is reflected in the art with the busy and tight paneling. You get this tension with the tight paneling that you might not even notice until you get a break from the action and you get some relief. This volume is a tad dark in tone as they discuss how to prevent the end of the world. T...more
While I absolutely love the new covers, I can't say that I am pleased with the translations. Sure, this second release of Sailormoon boasts more faithful translations, the fact remains that there are typos in here. Some of Naoko Takeushi's best art is in this volume, but the typos could get rather jarring at times, why did they not hire an English/American proofreader to check the translation and make sure that it was set up right for the printer! So I had to take away one star.
3 Reasons that Vol. 7 is the best volume (so far):
1. The Mugen/Infinity arc is way darker than Black Moon or Dark Kingdom. Whereas the previous villains focused on possession, militarization and control of Earth, the baddies of the Mugen universe seek destruction. Pure, total, complete, leave-no-soul-alive destruction.
2. The Outer Senshi are finally revealed, and you get to see Sailor Uranus in all of her fantastic genderqueer glory.
3. SUPER SAILOR MOON, AMIRITE?

I know a lot of people are complaining about the translation of the new books, but as a person who read the original Mixx translations, I personally think this is an improvement.
Especially since the translations are handled by Kodansha, the company that originally released the comics in Japan in the early 90s.
Sometimes, it can be a little clunky, but mostly, it seems more accurate and makes more sense than the original Mixx translation did.

I just love this series. I love that it's getting to be just about the point when Sailor Saturn is introduced. She always fascinated me, especially her origin and story. The outer sailors always seemed to have the roughest jobs to me, all alone out there to protect the Silver Millenium, and then there's Sailor Saturn, who technically would be the most powerful of all of them.
Can't wait to see her return!
Can't wait to see her return!
I love that we get a lot more back-story about the outer Sailor Scouts, I think that their existence is very sad. Especially when you realize that they had to watch everything that they had ever known be destroyed and couldn't actually help. I actually do not know what happens with Saturn in the manga exactly and I'm really excited for the next issue.
Kodansha, we're all incredibly grateful for the shiny new re-release, but could someone in your office please proofread more carefully? There are still awkward sentences and occasional typos showing up!
Aside from that - the "S" anime plot with Mugen Academy continues along. Yaaaay, Mistress 9 appears!

I first started watching Sailor Moon when I was 13, yes I was late to the party, and I can remember that one of the first episodes I ever saw was the one in which Amara and Michelle were introduced.
Is it sad that I fell hopelessly in love with both of them? I don't think so.
I loved their sassiness, their maturity and my God they are both gorgeous.

Not just another satisfying entry of the new Sailor Moon manga releases, this volume was especially exciting and had my heart racing at many points. I could hardly wait to finish one page so I could turn to the next. The only downside: ends on a cliffhanger! Dangit!

Another great volume! I love this one because it shows how much Usagi/Sailor Moon has grown as a character. The Sailor Soldiers from the Outer Planets were always my favorite. No matter how much they may act like the others are in their way, in the end they just can't help but protect Sailor Moon and the others.

Yes, we're coming to the end of one of my favorite arcs in this series. I love the renewal edition art, I love that Kodansha USA left the original color leaflets in, and I love the new translation. <3 Anyone who's read the Tokyopop translation? Do yourself a favor and pick up this brand spanking new one from Kodansha. You're welcome in advance.

The infinity arc continues to be awesome. Really enjoying seeing the newer scouts!
Continuing my completely unbiased (cough) five-star grading of the Sailor Moon series.
