Agatha keeps pulling me back; I cannot say that each book is better than the last, because that is not always the case, but I find myself wanting to be Agatha’s cheerleader.
She constantly makes bad choices, but I am not sure that she does it intentionally. She seems to be that person who always fails at doing the right thing. The 11th in the series - I am amazed at how quickly I have got through this series - but then they are a little addictive. I really enjoyed this installment - where we discover that, as predicted by the marvelous Mrs Bloxby and the also marvelous Sir Charles Fraith, Agatha's marriage to James is a complete disaster. "I think I've gone through every motion from grief to anger," says Agatha towards the conclusion of the book and much of those emotions came in her ill-fated marriage. Her husband unaccountably goes missing after being attacked and, with a murder committed just after his injuries, he is suspected for the crime. Agatha finally marries her beloved James and of course things don't go well. But James is attacked and disappears leaving Agatha and Charles to solve the who done it. Grrrr argh. Once upon a time, due to many bad experiences with authors going out of print, I tended to buy series as they came, even if I hadn't been able to catch up with reading them. This explains Cornwell et al, but MCBeaton is a case of her own - worse, in a way. There ae many (esp. contemporary American female authors) who basically just describe their daily routines and add some "crime" elements around it; some are cozies, many aren't. Agatha Raisin is not your typical English village lady. She's a retired PR executive from London who's had to fight her way along in a man's business world, and has had to bulldoze more than a few folks along the way. In short, she can be a real pain in the ass.

The reason I give these books 3 stars is because of all of the errors both in content and grammatical that make me crazy. The story lines are fun and easy to follow so the books make for quick fun reads, but there are always tons of mistakes and her time line doesn't always follow from book to book in the series and she repeats herself often alongside of the simple he instead of she, using the wrong name here, etc...just lazy editing and trying to pump out books too fast in my opinion.
Agatha and James'on-again, off-again romance finally ends in marriage and what a strange marriage it is. They each continue to live in their own home and pretty much lead separate lives. Agatha has a brief affair as does James and then James is gone, blood left in his home and in his abandoned car. Is he dead or alive? This book and their relationship both come to a strange end. Enjoyable
I liked this addition to the series. The title has multiple meanings; one of which factors into solving the murder. Again Agatha is paired with Sir Charles in unraveling what happened. I enjoy the repartee between these two. And there are key developments in the Agatha and James relationship. The recurring characters are developed and the twists in the story kept me guessing until near the end.
I finally realised when I was part way through the book that I have missed one as I was so surprised that Agatha and James were married! Although Agatha trying to be the dutiful wife was irritating I thought Charles appeared in a better light than he has in past books, and Agatha sleuthing works better than in previous books.

I love the Agatha Raisin series and this one is no exception. They're great easy reads with brilliant characters, especially the titular Agatha Raisin. The plots are excellent and I never normally work out who the culprit is.

I thought this was one of the better Agatha Raisin books. Agatha is her usual hot and cold self regarding James and rather leading Charles along. She's also a bit of a snob and know-it-all, too. Still, for some reason, I like these books and the characters. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
I love Agatha Raisin books! Totally addictive and fun to read - they always have the knack of making me laugh, and sometimes this is exactly what's needed. An Agatha Raisin book a cup of coffee and some chocolate...or maybe a glass of wine!
Yet another Agatha! Her marriage to James quickly goes wrong and she is left minus a husband but with a new murder! Really didn't miss James in this book and Charles is gradually becoming moe sympathetic, but not enough to convince me!

Lichtvoetige lectuur met ongewone hoofdpersonages. Leuk verhaal, waarbij je echt pas op het einde weet wie het gedaan heeft. Zou eens graag de radioversie horen met Penelope keith als Agatha.
Agatha Raisin is a bit prickly, a retired advertising executive trying to adjust to retirement in a country town, rubs a few people up the wrong way but she ends up growing on you.
Agatha is married but of course it's going to be a disaster. James goes missing and agatha and her village sleuths are at it again. I really enjoy this cozy series.
This episode begins bleakly with Agatha's life in tatters. But it ends satisfactorily and I finally have James out of my system. Hopefully, Agatha has, also.
James is so annoying in this one... as if he isn't usually annoying! Still a great series, but this one isn''t one of my favorites.
These are nice cosy mysteries following Agatha Raisin and her doomed relationship with James! I read this tucked up in a log cabin in Wales- perfect book!
This book was kind of crazy but a good lesson was learned and hopefully Mrs Raisin will have more of a life from now on.
SKIPPED AHEAD TO THIS ONE IN THE SERIES BECAUSE OF AUDIOBOOKS. lOVED IT BUT SO SAD.
These books should probably be read in order but its kind of fun not to.
