Dinner date after a hard workday should be heavenly. Of course, dates between the Beast Lord and Kate Daniels don’t always go as planned. Undead run amok, heads are chopped off, lawyers are deployed with extreme prejudice, and drunk vikings call people out.

Novella is after Magic Slays, same time as Andrea in Gunmetal Magic, both intersect. Gunmetal Magic bonus.

I love Kate.

I love Curran.

I love Kate + Curran.

They should make fuzzy necromatic shifter babies. I’d totally babysit those adorable little psychos. And I wouldn’t even check out Curran’s ass (blatant lie is blatant).

Hmmm…I wonder if Saiman is seeing anyone. Don’t tell me you haven’t been tempted. He’s like the long lost older brother of The Wonder Twins.

You would think that going on a dinner date is easy, but when you are Kate Daniels and the Beast Lord of Atlanta and your first, middle and last name are "Trouble", a dinner can turn into a deadly affair. Before you know it you have a dead navigator, 2 dead vampires, a kid with a life-sucking necklace around his neck, crazy, drunk vikings and worse of all, politics to deal with. Who said dating is an easy affair?

Kate and Curran decided to have a quiet and peaceful dinner after a hard day involving Kate's kicking butt of yet another trouble-making monster and Curran's efforts to hold his ragtag Pack together. Sometime in the middle of the dinner things go TERRIBLY WRONG with the navigators and now a child's life is in danger unless Kate and Curran can

I'm not giving this full 5 stars only because it's a novella but I'm rounding up because it was so much fun! It's nicely constructed considering its size, action packed and so so funny! I loved almost everything: Kate and Curran acting together through the entire time(perfect dynamics in an adult relationship); VIKINGS!!!; grand show of power(badass Kate in grey cloak edged with fur); the best ending with a great moral! Date Night!

Poor Kate can't even enjoy a nice night out with her sugar-woogums.
Halfway through the appetizers, a necklace chokes the life out of a Navigator, and both she and her besotted date lose control of the vampires they had chained up outside the restaurant.
Lucky for the patrons, Curran and Kate are able to mop up the mess.
However, that's just the beginning.
When the dead girl's mother shows up, she snatches the necklace away from her husband, and throws it on her elementary school aged so

Loving my re-reading spree

There is something about this series that just makes me smile. I maybe don’t laugh out loud a lot during them but I definitely smile most of the way through.

This was a fun side story involving Kate and Curran working together to solve a few problems involving a life sucking necklace, vampires run amuck, guild wars, Drunken Vikings and trying to have a normal night out. I love these two together working as a team their dialog with each other is so fun and Illona and And

Please note that this review is wrote with extreme prejudice, one; because it was free, and who doesn't automatically loooove a free book? And two; this is a Kate Daniel's book and I am a complete fangirl, I actually let out an extremely uncool little shriek and did a little dance when I saw this, and the third and perhaps most important thing, Curran's in it. Naked. Nuff said.

This is a short story involving, Kate, Curran and a small boy who has is slowly being suffocated by a gold necklace. Ka
Huge thank you to Ilona Andrews for this great Christmas gift! (Ilona Andrews posted this for free for several weeks over Christmas) This was a fun read, with my favorite characters -- what more could a rabid faithful fan ask for? I am routinely surprised at how great the team behind Ilona Andrews is and how great the team of Ilona Andrews treats their fans. I loved this story. We don't get a Kate and Curran book this year (2012) but, we have this sweet and fun novella. And well -- did I mention ...more

Magic Gifts – there’s Naked Curran…’nuff said

So now that I have your attention…

There IS naked Curran, but there’s always more to say when it comes to a Kate Daniels story. I initially didn’t even read the synopsis because Kate gets an insta-click. The cover is really cool, making me wonder if covers for future novels are in for a style change.

This story takes place after Magic Slays (Book 5) and runs simultaneously with Andrea’s upcoming novel, Gunmetal Magic. Kate and Curran just can’t seem to

This.was.sooo.good!! As a big fan of Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series I fell again for the wonderful characters, the fantastic worldbuilding and of course the humour...mmmhm, I think I'll need a quote to sum it all up:

<"And how did your day go?" I asked Ascanio. He turned to me, a dreamy look on his pretty face. "We killed things. There was blood. Fountains of blood. And then we had barbecue." Why me?>

Thank you so much for this awesome novella!
Good for a novella, but because it was a Kate Daniels novella I couldn't help but want more, more, more. Kate and Curran were their usual awesome selfs, and I loved the insight in their relationship.

HOWEVER. After Magic Slays I'm really worried about Julie, and I hated that she made a short appearance here, because nothing was mentioned about the situation. I'd rather hadn't had her show up then.

HOWEVER² The mercenary thing was great, but I simply didn't get the whole problem with Jim, and why K

This story is a present the authors released in time for Christmas which to me says alot about the authors and how they appreciate their fans.

Magic Gifts is a bridge between Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) and Gunmetal Magic which is Andrea's book and releases during the summer of 2012.

What starts out as a first of it's kind date between Curran and Kate, quickly spirals out of control when a vampire navigator who works for the People is killed by a gold nec

Very nice.

I just have to give kudos to the Ilona Andrews team for respecting their fan base. I mean, seriously, they gave us a present! How cool is that? A free download adventure in the Kate and Curran world. In these times of authors-gone-wild, it's nice to know that the authors I love are in touch with what it means to foster goodwill on the web.

First of all, they are aware that we are foaming at the mouth for Kate's next installment. We have to live with the knowledge that we won't get more

Fun! Thank you Ilona Andrews for the gift of Curran and Kate for Christmas.

This short story has a lot going on - vampires, magical necklaces, weres, vikings, pack politics, and a draugr.

Favorite line:

"Some men get excited by white lace and a translucent negligee. My love muffin got excited by a woman dressed to murder."

Oh, Curran!

Can't wait for Andrea's book!
*sigh* I swear, Ilona Andrews could write a Kate Daniels #106 and I'd STILL pick it up. Heck, she could write a Kate Daniels #5.12 and #5.22 and #5.32 and I'd pick all of them up in a heartbeat as well. LOVE. So much love for this series. <33
Oh how I love the novellas and short-stories in this series! Not only are they wickedly entertaining, they also are great sources of information and add so much to the series as a whole! Everything makes a lot more sense after reading these side stories. The Andrews are so good I can’t believe it. They tie everything in perfectly, all the books are interlinked and this makes for an amazing world building. Kate Daniels’ world is so rich and dense that it really seems to come alive.

An attempt at an actual date works out every bit as well as you'd imagine for Kate Daniels magical troubleshooter (aka trouble magnet) and her mate the Curran the Beast Lord of Atlanta.

Magic Gifts is a great little slice of the Kate Daniels series with just a quick little tease for their upcoming Andrea spin off series starter, Gunmetal Magic. For those who follow the authors' blog, the opening scene and a Jim moment later on have been shared as snippets, but the story that surrounds it makes it

Big love to Ilona Andrews for creating and sharing this Kate Daniels novella as a Christmas gift to fans.

The story runs concurrently with Gunmetal Magic, the Andrea-centered novel coming out next year... and contains some teaser/ mini-plot spoilers as a result. It follows Kate and Curran as they attempt a dinner date in the city. But everything goes to hell when a woman is killed in the restaurant. And they're pulled in further when the metal necklace that killed her, is placed around a child's
If I was disappointed that 2012 did not mark the publication of a new Kate Daniels installment, it was largely stymied by the action-packed fun of Magic Gifts, which certainly takes the cake as my favorite of the Kate novellas to date.

Curran drops by Cutting Edge with the suggestion to treat Kate to a night out–a real dinner date of the sort they don’t really have. She should have realized it would never be a normal night, as it quickly descends into chaos as two navigators lose control of their

The story starts out with Kate and Curran going out on a date and wouldn't you know it? Here comes trouble. But in true Kate and Curran style, they take care of business.

I loved how this story played out. The funny, snarky lines between Kate and Curran never fail to make me smile and even though you're always wanting them to have more alone time, their adventures are so intriguing. The story line was so involved and I enjoyed having a lot of our favorite characters included.

Ahh. Another fun one in the Kate Daniels series!! This novella is so action packed!!! I really, really enjoyed it!!! Now I'm even more excited to read Andrea's book Gunmetal Magic. There was a big teaser in this short story about what's to come in Andrea's book. And that epilogue....BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

“He grinned. "You're jealous."
I considered it. "No. But when you stared at that woman like she was made of diamonds, it didn't feel very good."
"I stared at her because she smelled strange."
"Strange how?"
"She smelled like rock dust. Very strong dry smell." Curran put his arms around me. "I love it when you get all fussy and possessive."
"I never get fussy and possessive."
He grinned, showing his teeth. His face was practically glowing. "So you're cool if I go over and chat her up?"
"Sure. Are you cool if I go and chat up that sexy werewolf on the third floor?"
He went from casual and funny to deadly serious in half a blink. "What sexy werewolf?"
I laughed.
Curran's eyes focused. He was concentrating on something.
"You're taking a mental inventory of all people working on the third floor, aren't you?"
His expression went blank. I'd hit the nail on the head.
I slid off him and put my head on his biceps. The shaggy carpet was nice and comfortable under my back.
"Is it Jordan?"
"I just picked a random floor," I told him. "You're nuts, you know that?"
He put his arm around me. "Look who is talking.”

Logic said that at some point he must've been a baby and then a child, but looking at him one was almost convinced that some deity touched the ground with its scepter and proclaimed, "There shall be a badass," and Jim sprung into existence, fully formed, complete with clothes, and ready for action.” 107 likes
