Well I read this book for the French Class and I didn't expect it to be a good book, or at least that good. I know Amelie Nothomb is indeed a really strange writer and I'm glad I came across of one of her best writings. I've read this book in less than 2 hours and I was amazed by how interesting and unpredictable it was. I didn't enjoy the way she wrote it because it was too simple for my taste.
But this book is the perfect way to spend your time if you want an interesting book

Recommends it for: EVERYONE!
Wow. Just wow.
In a previous review I mentioned hating books I spent less than two hours with, and I do have to revoke that statement. I honestly have to.
I picked this book up for free today, at this fabulous book exchange shelf we have in a city close to mine, and I only picked it up because I had to wait for over an hour at the doctor's. There was no blurb on the back of the book telling me what the story would be about and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. But I am glad I did.

Jerome Angust is trying to read a book while waiting for a plane, when a stranger comes up to him and starts talking. And refuses to stop. The conversation between these two people, Jerome and Texel (the stranger), takes up 99% of the book. It's a really short book, though. About 70 pages.
And it freaked me out.
At first Jerome does his best to get rid of Texel. His sarcastic replies to everything Texel says are one of my favorite things about this book. Texel is an extremely annoying and weird c

This one was written similar to Péplum, as in it had more conversation than narrative. Unlike Peplum this one was less interesting.

I don't want to give any spoiler, but this entire book is a metaphor. It concentrates on our ability to murder and what it means to each of us. We wear masks and we lie, to others, but mostly to ourselves. The most skillful liar is the one who can fool himself.

A contemplative book, but definitely not one of her best.

Disturbing; a little weird; mostly dialogue. I would have rated it lower at first but the twists the story takes make it shine. Nothomb delves deep into human nature. She conveys in very few words what some authors dont manage in much longer books. The characters are vivid and complex.
Her books always make me feel something, I'm never left feeling distant, bored. I'm moved to either loath the characters or feel sympathy. Sometimes, both, given the twists.
