This book is interesting as a document of the American occupation attempting to learn about Japanese culture, but probably not the best source for really understanding the range of current religious sentiment in Japan. From what I was able to determine, one can get information at least as reliable (and much more up-to-date) by a clever search of Wikipedia and following its listed sources.
