I'm a tough critic of zombie fiction--look at my other reviews. This one is written by someone who doesn't seem to be slavishly trying to incorporate every zombie cliche so he can say "Cool, just like Romero/Shaun/Walking Dead!" In the way that the rejiggered Galactica was about terrorism more than Star Trek scifi cliches, this, too, seems more about zombies HERE, not over there somewhere. It follows more action novel contours, as opposed to horror ones, and that usually is a sign for me to bail...more
Book 1 of this saga is very entertaining. The book opens with an outbreak at an airport and then moves to a veritable dream come true scenario. Scott Allen, the primary character and mega millions lottery winner has converted an ocean going car ferry into a luxury expedition mega yacht, Sovereign Spirit.

What better place to wait out a zombie apocalypse then in a lap of floating comfort?

The storyline makes more sense than trying to fortify a mall ala the original Dawn of the Dead and the remake....more

As the author, I shouldn't really rate this book at all but I would only give it 4 stars because I know it isn't perfect. In fact, some minor edits (corrected typos and omissions) were made in the month that transpired between release of this 30,000 word cliff-hanging teaser and release of the full 100,000 word edition of Voyage of the Dead. If you are thinking of reading this edition, I'm flattered, and it might be worth it to you to spend the 99 cents to get hooked on the full book. But, if yo...more
This is a pretty interesting twist on the zombie book. It's actually a bit of a feel good book with an anti-nanny state message. I enjoyed this and the author's other two novels, and will keep an eye out for the next. If I had a complaint is the book needs a little punch, maybe some thrills or suspence, everything just seems to go fast and a little too perfectly. And it sometimes reads like Jane's Fighting Ships.
What I enjoy most about this series and several others is the way the popularity of...more

I found this book to be unique & pretty awesome for the POV. David comes from the POV of being on a boat during the ZA. Scott is the main character & won a HUGE lottery. so w/all that cash he decided to buy some great BIG BOY Toys like his yatch & more *you'll have to read the book to see all the awesome toys he has! While on the way home from an around the world boat trip the ZA happens on land & leaves many people stranded or dead only to rise up & kill others. So Scott usi...more
