I like this author's voice, but at nearly exactly 50% in the book, I pretty thoroughly disliked the heroine while she was interacting with one of the love interests, which makes this difficult, since this is a first person voice book. I thought she was selfish and self-centered and contemplated abandoning the book (but didn't because I DO like the world). This is the second entry in the Secret McQueen series and it definitely lives up to the potential of the first. First of all there will be spoilers from book 1 as I am gonna squee and ramble on.

I read book 1 today and thought, why did no one tell me the series is so good?! (ok maybe they did and I did not listen). After finishing it I had a serious case of withdrawal and you know I had to get more. So I had to get and start book 2 and I did not put it down. This book starts off 3 months after Something Secret This Way ends. Secret has run away - to escape her next job - assassinating her warden Holden, and to hide from her two soul-mated werewolves, King Lucas and Second Desmond. Ahhhh Desmond. Hang on, where was I :D

Ok, so she gets kidnapped and forced to return home where she either has to complete her mission and kill Holden or find out the details and prove his innocence. I loved the way Secret didn’t fall back and expect others to do her work for her, she didn’t even really ask anyone for help she just got on with the job and readied herself to solve the mystery all the while dealing with 4 possible lovers and pains in the butt.

I adore romance, and so along side the action and drama, the best part of any book for me is the love interests. Now, I just read some other reviews and it really brought some other points of views to my mind re her treatment of Lucas. While reading, I was quick to dismiss him in this book because he just seemed to steamroll right over Secrets feelings and thoughts. I missed his kind gentle side from the first book. Looking back now after I have finished, I understand that he wanted more from her and for her to deal with the re percussions of her actions. She really didn’t give him a chance whatsoever. She did act a little like a spoilt brat. Poor Lucas. Now that I have really spent some time pondering this, I feel it’s only going to end in heartbreak for poor Desmond when Secret finally lets Lucas in. Hopefully Kellan will be there to break his fall :P Hmmm, Sig & Holden the third and forth love interests. I just dunno. I just dunno how I feel about either of those. I do know that I can not wait for the third book ‘Deep Dark Secret’ to be released in a few short weeks to find out what is going to unfold next!

As with Something Secret This Way Comes I liked Secret McQueen "badass-ness", but this is also the reason this second book is loosing points with me. I do not understand how she can be manipulated by the wolves in her life. (And no, I wouldn't have forgiven Lucas nor granny, honestly.)

Holden is very interested in getting in touch with Secret, and he’s doing it through their warden/ward bond. He knows she’s been assigned to kill him and not only wants to stop her but expects her to investigate, especially when he hears about Sig’s interest. With Holden, Lucas, Desmond and Sig all dogging her heels and wanting something from her, she’s a busy woman. She has to run down clues, evade the Council, deal with Holden popping in and out of her head and apartment, handle not one but two werewolves who expect her to make a commitment to them and handle her own new ward, the bubbly, impulsive and slightly ditzy Brigit. Oh, and there are some really nasty vampires and their servants who want her dead – badly.

I liked Something Secret This Way Comes but I had some doubts about where some plot threads were going and the purpose of some characters. I may not know where things are ultimately going, but a few books in, I think I have a better idea of who these characters are and I am seriously enjoying this series. Secret is fast becoming one of my favorite UF heroines.

For the first time it seems, Secret is in the position of having to run an investigation on one of her assassination orders rather than just going at it with her trusty gun or katana. Without her usual resources of Keaty or Holden, she’s stuck depending on people she doesn’t know and ferreting out information until she has something to take to Sig and Holden. Of course there are elements who don’t want her to save Holden, who would be happy for him to just take the fall for whatever it is the Council thinks he’s done. I really didn’t have any idea who was behind the plot but when the villain was revealed, they wouldn't have even been on my radar until close to the end of the book when I only had a few options. It was still a shock and once I thought about it, I had to go back to the first book and look for clues that may have led to this development. There’s a really impressive layering of motives, hints of history between characters and definite reactions to Secret that will carry over even beyond into the next book when it’s discovered who’s behind the treachery.

With all the man candy in her life, it has to happen that I start choosing a favorite (or a not-favorite) sooner or later, and I’m afraid I’ve already done it. I kind of hope I’m not jinxing the rest of the guys in the series, but I just am not really in love with Desmond. He seems too beta for Secret, who can roll right over him. As Lucas’ Second, he just doesn’t feel right for her to me and as much as her werewolf side says she is supposed to be with both of them, I just don’t see it for her. It’s taken me a few books to warm to him (has it actually been that many?) but I am really, really starting to like Sig. I have no idea if he’ll ever be a love interest for her, but I loved the way he interacts with Secret. She keeps finding out that she’s under his protection for the most part but there’s always a little bit of an edge of fear with him, like maybe she’s not really sure how much she’s worth to him. I sort of think it’s sexy. So maybe I’m a little weird.

Holden is still in the running with me though (and not just because I cast Gabriel Aubrey as him in my head). He and Secret have a little uneasy chemistry leftover from the “first” book – first in quotations because it was the second book technically but was set before the second..you know what I mean. They shared a very, very explosive kiss which makes his intruding during her activity with Desmond all the more awkward, especially when the reasons why he can do it get explained more completely. I’m not really sure where the two of them will go. Their relationship seems like it’s going to only get more complicated because he was promoted right before she was ordered to kill him and let’s just say this book ends on the same sort of bang as the last one did which is to say a giant one. I’m going to stay firmly on the fence about Lucas, partially because he was a bit of a different character in Something Secret. He initially seemed like he took it for granted that Secret would be thrilled to bond with him and wasn’t that worried about her feelings. Now that she’s taken a place in his pack (however inadvertently), taken his blood (ditto) and tried to run away from him, he’s decided to get serious and go after her. It makes him about a hundred times more attractive to me. I don’t know if it beats Sig and Holden, but I’m willing to keep him in the running.

The way this story layers in people and plot pieces from past stories and the other books really strengthened this one for me. I love the voice the author’s given Secret, the world of the Vampire Council and the glimpses of Lucas’ pack that we’re beginning to get. The villains are very scary but Secret needs to watch herself around the nice guys too – it makes me wonder what on earth is next for this woman and how soon I’ll get to read about it.

And she needs to take her place in werewolf society, to strengthen her mates place as leader of the Eastern wolves. Can Secret uncover the real traitor and keep Holden safe? Can she keep herself alive, and fulfill her mates’ needs, all while trying to fight strange and terrible creatures determined to stop her?

I love Ms Dean’s world, and the fantastic characters that inhabit it. The world is a blend of reality and fantasy, with many identifying landmarks and the occasional strange being to throw you off the track. I was drawn into this from the first page, and couldn’t wait to see how Secret would solve all the puzzles.

The cast of characters here is much the same as the first book: Secret McQueen, her mentor Holden, her two wolf mates Lucas Rain and Desmond Alvarez, and of course the Tribunal: Sig, Daria and Juan Carlos. There are a few new villains, and one or two surprise twists to make this one edge-of-your-seat exciting.

I was sure I knew who the ‘bad guy’ was, and I was so wrong! Lucas’ sister Kellan was a terrific addition to the cast, and I hope we see more of her in the future. This story made me laugh, cry... and wonder who was behind the plot. I was especially surprised to see who had Secret’s back through this mad dash to save one vampire from an undeserved punishment.

There is a terrific "happy for now" ending, but with a twist that makes me want more. I recommend this for those who like to mix romance and mystery, and those who love surprises.

This book picks up roughly three months after the first one. Secret has run away to her Grandmere's house to get some space and clear her head. But the short reprieve from her real life problems doesn't last as she's forced back home to deal with the contract put out on Holden. She also decides to ask the big 'why' he needs to be killed instead of blindly following the rules, which leads to a lot more questions that need to be answered. Secret then makes it her mission to prove Holden's innocence all the while trying to sort out her complicated love life.

I loved Secret in book one, she's a bad-ass assassin and doesn't take crap from anyone. But this book she kinda annoyed me, not all the time but certain parts. Such as any time spent with Lucas, I wanted to slap some sense into her. She rips his pride into little pieces then sets it on fire, all because she didn't want to come home from her little getaway. She failed to realize that killing Marcus caused a whole lot of pack problems and her new position in the pack needed to be reinforced not neglected. So she of course blames Lucas for all her problems.
Quote: "I could only imagine how frustrating it must be for Lucas to be soul-bonded to such a single-minded and stubborn woman as myself."
I really wish Secret dealt with this a little better, it seems to me like she was trying to find an excuse to push him away so she didn't have to deal with the two-soul bonded problem. Even though in my mind, she gets the better end of the stick. Desmond I still like, but he seemed a little clingy in this book for my tastes. I adore Sig and after the book ended the way it did I hope we see more of him in book three.

Something small and fluffy passed in between my legs, and I resisted the urge to assume it was of demonic origin. The furry thing introduced itself with a “Brrr-eow?” The tiny white kitten looked up at me, and I hugged my shoes tighter. Cats. Close enough to demons.

One of the upsides to Sierra Deans book is the writing, her books are extremely easy to read. The words flow across the page and before I know it I'm already half way. The pacing was also very well done. The bad guy took me by surprise, wasn't expecting it so it was nice to be wrong for a change. I really wish I could have given it more than 3 Stars, who knows I might after sleeping on it but I didn't like the romance all that much in this book. Secret acted like a little bit of a slut. However I am still very excited to read the Secret Santa book 2.5 at the end of November.

I have a hard time deciding if I liked this book or not. I found myself not liking Secret. She was so cold and nasty to Lucas,for reasons that made absolutely no sense. And overall to everyone she was very bratty, and not the so called strong character I expected her to be. I've been really lucky this year with new authors. Sierra Dean is one of these spanking brand new authors and i think she is one to watch. I have read her debut book "A Secret This Way Comes" her novella "The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters" and the second full book in this series " A Bloody Good Secret". When i read the first one i thought what the heck is up with this title? Once you get past the first chapter you have a ah haa moment and it's all very clear. I'm sure you can guess that i loved it!! Excellent writing. Very witty and it just kept me right there in the book. The characters are all for the most part very likable and well the Men seem to all be pretty darn hot. Secret seems to attract all of them too. She already has 2 werewolf soul mates but then she suddenly starts dreaming about have sex with Holden. What??? lol Then she is also in bed with her vampire boss Sig at one point in this book. What i am saying is you can't get bored reading this book. It moves along at a nice steady pace and there is something happening all the time. I felt like i was on this fast moving train and you don't want to get to your destination cause you're having to much fun. Like the previous book and novella there was what the heck that's the end already moment. Not that is was a bad ending but you were so into it you are ticked there isn't more. Sierra also has the punch you in the face cliff hanger ending down pat. Going to have to learn patience for waiting for the next book reading this series. Luckily you won't have to wait long because there is another novella coming out in November called "Secret Santa".Christmas and Secret McQueen what could happen? lol A lot! Seriously if you are into paranormal romance this is a great series. If you have not tried it yet this is the perfect author to start with. It might seem really bloody and gory going by the titles but it's not really about that. All i can say is I'm ready and waiting for the next book. I will say that some of the aspects of the story have improved, like Brigit not being such a huge pain in the @ss. However, some aspects went from bad to worse. The love triangle (if you want to call it that as she has yet to make love to Lucas and spends most of her time rolling around the sheets with Desmond or dreaming of Holden or fighting off some bizarre attraction to Sig)... I don't know, perhaps some of the other reviewers are right on the money when they say this is going towards Anita Blake territory but not *everyone* can find the main paranormal character appealing and a sexual turn on and this is where I struggle with this series.

I would be much more happy if at this time in her life, Secret either swears off men entirely or chooses one (at this point, ANY one as people are going to get hurt regardless what decision she makes but they'll get over it and live to see another day...er, night in Holden and Sig's case). It is just annoying because I found the book tedious at times and the so-called plot was wafer thin (hence all the reasons why Secret had so much going on because the plot isn't really all that interesting).

What I also find a bit annoying is how these supposed men who perhaps showed very little outside interest in Secret (except for perhaps curiosity or perhaps a night of rolling around in the sheets -- I am talking about the vamps here, Holden and Sig) are all the sudden on the verge of being in love with her and find her so damned irresistible. Perhaps I am missing something major but what is so special about this chick that a two thousand year old vamp and a two hundred year old vamp are soooo enthralled, they can't seem to be without her?

And is with the semi-incubus scenes with Holden and Secret?

It was an enjoyable but a forgettable read and I am only hoping the third book, Deep Dark Secret: Secret McQueen, Book 3, will be much better.(less)

Again a wonderful offering from Sierra Dean. This second book starts off where the cliffhanger from Book one left us, Sierra has been ordered to kill her friend and mentor Holden. Not wanting to be forced into a decision she runs away from both her werewolf soulmates and the vampire council, needless to say she doesn't remain hidden for long. A Bloody Good Secret is the second book in the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean and is out on Tuesday 20 September. Secret is a half vampire half werewolf bounty hunter who works for the Tribunal which is part of the vampire council. If you haven’t read book one Something Secret This Way Comes I strongly recommend that you do so because firstly it is a really good book and secondly it also helps with the reading of this book. At the end of book one, we were left with the massive cliff hanger which was Secret being handed her next assignment for the tribunal which was to assassinate one of her closest friends and warden the vampire Holden Chancery. Book two starts with Secret taking refuge at her Grandmother’s house where she has spent the last three months running away from her two werewolf lovers and orders to kill Holden. However things don’t go to Secret’s plan and she soon finds back in New York. Secret is convinced that Holden is not guilty of his crimes, the only problem with that is Secret doesn’t know what crimes he is charged with and no one is willing to tell her. So Secret must find out what it is Holden is supposed to have done and then clear his name. It is a job she is willing to literally die for.

Once again I really enjoyed Ms Dean’s voice. Like the first book this is a quick paced, fun light read. This time the story looks deeper into Secret’s vampire side unlike the first book which concentrated more on her werewolf side. Her two werewolf lovers Lucas and Desmond took more of a back seat although Secret is still soul bonded to both. Secret also has sort of a romantic encounter with Holden and Sig also appears on Secret’s radar. To be honest I was a bit uncomfortable with so many love possibilities and I hope that in future books this gets resolved.

The story line is well played out and I couldn’t figure out the ending. I never guessed which of the characters were guilty and it was a shock to eventually discover the perpetrator. We found out more about the characters that we have met before and we were introduced to some new people who I hope make another appearance in particular Kellen Rain and Nolen. We are not given a cliff hanger exactly at the end of this book however I am very interested to find out what happens next. Congratulations Ms Dean on your second book it is a great read I would like to give this book 4 stars.

I really enjoyed "A Bloody Good Secret", book #2 of Secret McQueen. It wasn't as fantastic as the first, but I think Sierra is just getting in stride for a very successful series.

This book didn't have much of Lucas in it. Secret's vampire storyline was explored more fully - with a very interesting twist of plot in the end. Secret's vampire status changes dramatically!

GAH! Again with the crazy ending! It wasn't so much as a cliffhanger for us as it was for poor Desmond. LOL
Heart stopping action with kick-ass fight scenes, uber-sexy Werewolves & Vampires, twists and turns around every corner. This was a totally fun and exciting UF with extra sexiness! Just my type! Like the yummy Desmond and Holden...okay, okay, and Sig too. However, not so much Lucas. Yet. ;)

Why Did I Read This? Am I Glad I Did?
I loved the first in the series and barely blinked between ending it and starting this one. This was just as good, if not better, than Something Secret This Way Comes. The fighting was just as bloody. The romance was even more confusing (as if that was possible). And there seems to be to no shortage of psycho evil vampires that want Secret dead.

I love you, I just love you! After finding the first book in this series, I cannot help but devour this one, actually quicker, as there is no shortage of action packed awesomeness in this book. Another great read from Sierra Dean. Still loving this Secret McQueen. Her love life is as complicated as ever. You are kept guessing until the very end about what is going on and who is involved.

It's interesting how although Secret was first bonded to the King, that seems to be turning into more of a working relationship. I am curious to see what happens with that. This series is quickly becoming an addiction of mine. Luckily, I only have one more book to read in order to get caught up; I was starting to feel bad about neglecting the other novels waiting in my queue. Sierra Dean left me with no other choice though. Something Secret This Way Comes left me begging to know what happens next. I opted to save face a little and bought the next novel instead. A Bloody Good Secret starts off a little slower than its predecessor but don’t worry, you’ll find yourself knee deep in Secret McQueen awesomeness in no time. The ending of this second installment is no less shocking either and if you’re prone to series obsession like I am; it’s probably best if you have all three books at your disposal before you dive in. Don’t say that I didn’t warn you!

The first half of this story wasn’t my favorite. The pace was a lot slower than what I’ve come to expect from this series and I was anxious to get to the good stuff. I think the fact that Sierra makes readers wait for the answer to Something Secret This Way Comes’s cliffhanger ending might have had something to do with it. I’m not the most patient of people, especially when it comes to books. That point aside, I think Dean does a great job of summarizing the first book while setting up the chess board in preparation for the upcoming amazing plot twists. The fruits of her labour shine through in the end though and my reaction after the final page was something along the lines of: “omg-omg-omg!”

Once the ball started rolling there was no stopping it! The action is all consuming and the clever way in which Sierra weaves her plot lines is mesmerizing. I’m pretty good at guessing the outcome of books, TV episodes, movies, etc but with this series all bets are off! I was completely blindsided by the big bad and by Secret’s new role. There’s nothing that I like more than a book that keeps me on my toes!

I thought that Secret’s love triangle was complicated enough in the last book but I was wrong! Another man’s been added to the mix, so that makes 3 now. I have some concerns as to where this is going. It took Anita Blake way more than just two books to end up with this many lovers and my opinion of that series has been slowly declining ever since it became more about sex and less about hunting vampires. I’d hate to see Dean fall into the same trap. Secret’s only slept with one of them so far though which means that there’s still hope! I’m completely over Lucas, the werewolf king. In fact, I never really liked him to begin with and this book further reinforced those feelings. I want him gone! I remain skeptical about Holden but I have nothing but love for Desmond. Pick him! Pick him! If anyone can salvage the mess that is McQueen’s love life it’s Sierra Dean. Here’s hoping for a non-Anita-Blake-ish outcome!

A Bloody Good Secret has enough adrenaline, love squabbles and surprises to satisfy even the most difficult of readers. Even though it wasn’t quite as good as the first installment; it’s still a wildly entertaining read that ends with yet another brutal cliffhanger. Damn you Sierra Dean! You’ve left me with no choice (once again) but to read Deep Dark Secret.

I'm out about $10 for the first two books. I think I'm done and I'll just wiki the rest of the series. the Desmond vs Lucas debate is touched on a little here but there's the problem of clearing Holden's name. Glad there are other characters in the mix like Nolan and more Sig and Brigit. I skimmed a lot, which is a bad sign. I just wanted to know who she was going to pick and who the baddie was. This book starts off 3 months after Something Secret This Way ends. Secret has run away - to escape her next job - assassinating her warden Holden, and to hide from her two soul-mated werewolves, King Lucas and Second Desmond. Ahhhh Desmond. Hang on, where was I :D

Ok, so she gets kidnapped and forced to return home where she either has to complete her mission and kill Holden or find out the details and prove his innocence. I loved the way Secret didn��t fall back and expect others to do her work for her, she didn��t even really ask anyone for help she just got on with the job and readied herself to solve the mystery all the while dealing with 4 possible lovers and pains in the butt.

I adore romance, and so along side the action and drama, the best part of any book for me is the love interests. Now, I just read some other reviews and it really brought some other points of views to my mind re her treatment of Lucas. While reading, I was quick to dismiss him in this book because he just seemed to steamroll right over Secrets feelings and thoughts. I missed his kind gentle side from the first book. Looking back now after I have finished, I understand that he wanted more from her and for her to deal with the re percussions of her actions. She really didn��t give him a chance whatsoever. She did act a little like a spoilt brat. Poor Lucas. Now that I have really spent some time pondering this, I feel it��s only going to end in heartbreak for poor Desmond when Secret finally lets Lucas in. Hopefully Kellan will be there to break his fall :P Hmmm, Sig & Holden the third and forth love interests. I just dunno. I just dunno how I feel about either of those. I do know that I can not wait for the third book ��Deep Dark Secret�� to be released in a few short weeks to find out what is going to unfold next!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, as well as the prequel novella, so I was looking forward to getting stuck into this one.
