I like this author's voice, but at nearly exactly 50% in the book, I pretty thoroughly disliked the heroine while she was interacting with one of the love interests, which makes this difficult, since this is a first person voice book. I thought she was selfish and self-centered and contemplated abandoning the book (but didn't because I DO like the world). I also have a lot of trouble with any woman who's willing to just blithely accept stringing along not just two, but four (four!) potential lov...more

This book was ok but Secret really annoyed me in parts. (view spoiler)[ Most of them included her treatment of Lucas. I cheered when he called her a spoiled princess bc she *was* being exactly that. I hope this treatment of Lucas stops. Another thing that I didn't like was out the four possible love interests, she picks the weakest, clingiest one. Desmond is a nice guy, but when you have the wolf king Lucas, the 2000y.o. tribunal vampire leader Sig and the sexy 200+y.o. vampire friend, he doesn'...more

This is the second entry in the Secret McQueen series and it definitely lives up to the potential of the first. The environment in which Secret travels in her search for Holden's secret is rich in atmosphere, description and thrills. The dialogue, especially that between Holden and Secret is at the same time filled double entendre coupled with an undercurrent of deadly repartee and warning. The characters are supernaturally varied enough to be individuals, and the association of both taste, sig...more

First of all there will be spoilers from book 1 as I am gonna squee and ramble on.

I read book 1 today and thought, why did no one tell me the series is so good?! (ok maybe they did and I did not listen). After finishing it I had a serious case of withdrawal and you know I had to get more. So I had to get and start book 2 and I did not put it down. No dinner was made today, the dishes from yesterday's dinner is still in the sink, the bed was not made. You get the point. I was all about schhhhhh!...more

OK I think I have told you folks how much I enjoyed Something Secret This Way Comes: Secret McQueen, Book 1 and I have just finished A Bloody Good Secret: Secret McQueen, Book 2 and I am STILL loving it:) It does remind me a lot of the early Anita Blake books in many ways and I still am concerned that it will turn in the same direction but so far there has been no "slut of the month" type behavior (well in her mind a bit ...) but let me say that I have to give the 2 books together at least a 4+...more

Wowzer. Another 5 star read from Sierra Dean – this series has catapulted up my favorites list to land in the top 5, hang on, there’s a lot in my top 5, I will have to start calling it my top 10! This series is phenomenal – watch this name soar…

Secret is extraordinary. She is one kick-ass heroine, and anyone that has ever discussed books with me knows that strong minded, clever, snarky, tough protagonists rock my world.

This book starts off 3 months after Something Secret This Way ends. Secret ha...more

As with Something Secret This Way Comes I liked Secret McQueen "badass-ness", but this is also the reason this second book is loosing points with me. I do not understand how she can be manipulated by the wolves in her life. (And no, I wouldn't have forgiven Lucas nor granny, honestly.)

I can understand the vamps, it's their way or the highway. But her attachment to the wonder duo is pretty tough to accept. I would gladly strangle one and kick the other. Nor I found clear how the soul...more

Vampire Council assassin (or bounty hunter, as she likes to be called) Secret McQueen’s days of hiding out in Canada from her latest assignment are brought to an end when a trio of unlikely allies conspire to drag her back to New York. The Council’s patience with her has run out and Sig, the head and the one member who is usually her obvious supporter, is on her doorstep taking a very personal interest in her completion of this particular order to kill her mentor, Holden Chancery. This is the second of Secret McQueen’s adventures, and it is packed with action, danger, betrayal and some very hot loving.

As ‘bounty hunter’ for the Vampire Tribunal, Secret McQueen knows her job is more executioner than anything else. But when her new assignment is to bring in her mentor, Holden Chancery, Secret runs. She hides out until the head of the Tribunal tracks her down and makes her realize that she needs to return, not ju...more

I still liked this book, although not as much as the first one - it's reality score would probably be 3.75 because although I consumed it in 24 hours and couldn't put it down, it left a lot of issues.

****SPOILERS****

I get her running away (not very mature but then she is only 22) - the caveman kidnap thing again? *sigh* yes that was annoying. However she didn't have an issue with Sig or her Grandmere well she was annoyed but didn't take it up with them. Lucas, however, paid the full price. Even...more

It is so much fun to stumble upon a series that you truly enjoy. That is the case for me with Secret McQueen. This series has everything I truly enjoy in a urban fantasy: a kick butt herione, quirky supporting characters with fangs and fur, sarcasm, hot love, and a real who- dunnit that keeps you guessing.

In "A Bloody Good Secret," our herione is reeling from the revelations of all of her most precious secrets to the people she least wants to find out. Additionally, she has been hired to kill th...more

“You’re kidding me. How is that…” I pointed to the offending object, “…more civilized than drinking it from the bottle?” She had found an old Sesame Street cup, depicting The Count. His cartoonish fangs beamed at me, and I read the writing on the side which proclaimed, One… One Glass of Milk! I wanted to stab myself in the face with the broken shards of my dignity.

This book picks up roughly three months after the first one. Secret has run away to her Grandmere's house to get some space and clea...more

Err. This book isn't as good as the first but still a good read. :) I've mentioned a spoiler in my review of the previous book. I did get my answers here. :/ not sure if I'm happy about it. I mean a double triangle? How complicated is that! It could seriously be whorish... Or irritatingly skimpy on details... :( I'm hoping Sierra Dean can pull it off.

So in this book our girl, Secret was asked to kill her warden and confidant, Holden. :( Sig, the highest Vamp lord tribunal, figured Secret should...more

I have a hard time deciding if I liked this book or not. I found myself not liking Secret. She was so cold and nasty to Lucas, for reasons that made absolutely no sense. And overall to everyone she was very bratty, and not the so called strong character I expected her to be. A good example is forcing a character to admit he loved her, then getting up and just walking away! What a cold nasty person! Makes it hard to like her.

I really liked Lucas' sister, and i think she and Secret could end up bein...more

A Bloody Good Secret is the second book in the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean.

Secret McQueen a hybrid vampire/werewolf bounty hunter has recently been given a promotion by the Vampire Tribunal to Warden. After completing an impossible mission, Sig (Leader of the Tribunal), hand delivers Secret's next assigned target. Reeling from secrets discovered, a new ward and the target being a close friend, Secret copes the only way she knows how, she takes refuge with her grandmere. After three mon...more

I've been really lucky this year with new authors. Sierra Dean is one of these spanking brand new authors and i think she is one to watch. I have read her debut book "A Secret This Way Comes" her novella "The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters" and the second full book in this series " A Bloody Good Secret". When i read the first one i thought what the heck is up with this title? Once you get past the first chapter you have a ah haa moment and it's all very clear. The lead character's name is " Sec...more

In this installment of the Secret McQueen series, Secret is left reeling from an assignment which was given to her at the end of Something Secret This Way Comes: Secret McQueen, Book 1, which a few readers believed to be a cliff hanger.

I will say that some of the aspects of the story have improved, like Brigit not being such a huge pain in the @ss. However, some aspects went from bad to worse. The love triangle (if you want to call it that as she has yet to make love to Lucas and spends most of...more

Again a wonderful offering from Sierra Dean. This second book starts off where the cliffhanger from Book one left us, Sierra has been ordered to kill her friend and mentor Holden. Not wanting to be forced into a decision she runs away from both her werewolf soulmates and the vampire council, needless to say she doesn't remain hidden for long. The writer manages to keep the story fresh, witty and interesting without resorting to graphic gore or too many intimate scenes. In this genre it is hard t...more

A Bloody Good Secret is the second book in the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean and is out on Tuesday 20 September. Secret is a half vampire half werewolf bounty hunter who works for the Tribunal which is part of the vampire council. If you haven’t read book one Something Secret This Way Comes I strongly recommend that you do so because firstly it is a really good book and secondly it also helps with the reading of this book. I really enjoyed "A Bloody Good Secret", book #2 of Secret McQueen. It wasn't as fantastic as the first, but I think Sierra is just getting in stride for a very successful series.

This book didn't have much of Lucas in it. Secret's vampire storyline was explored more fully - with a very interesting twist of plot in the end. Secret's vampire status changes dramatically!

I really enjoyed Secrets romps with Desmond, but I admit to wondering more and more about Lucas and how this double-bonded love tr...more

A Bloody Good Secret starts 3 months later, with Secret still on temporary hiatus after receiving the warrant from the Council to kill her warden, Holden. Secret hightails it to her grandmere's house to hide from the council and avoid facing having to kill her mentor.

A Bloody Good Secret is a non-stop thrill ride of plot twists and turns. There is never any down time in Secret's life. Besides trying to prove Holden's innocence, she still has the wolf love triangle that she must deal with. The m...more

GAH! Again with the crazy ending! It wasn't so much as a cliffhanger for us as it was for poor Desmond. LOL
Heart stopping action with kick-ass fight scenes, uber-sexy Werewolves & Vampires, twists and turns around every corner. This was a totally fun and exciting UF with extra sexiness! Just my type! Like the yummy Desmond and Holden...okay, okay, and Sig too. However, not so much Lucas. Yet. ;)

bloody fights. complex love puzzle. laughter.

Why Did I Read This? Am I Glad I Did?
I loved the first in the series and barely blinked between ending it and starting this one. This was just as good, if not better, than Something Secret This Way Comes. The fighting was just as bloody. The romance was even more confusing (as if that was possible). And there seems to be to no shortage of psycho evil vampires that want Secret dead.

Again, Sierra Dean shocks me with her...more

I love you, I just love you! After finding the first book in this series, I cannot help but devour this one, actually quicker, as there is no shortage of action packed awesomeness in this book. It's even better than the first, as more things progress, Secret gets put in the middle of everyone's business, and it's always pushed onto her to solve their problems, which are now becoming her problems! I didn't think I would be able to say this, as I really loved the first book so much, but hot damn,...more

Another great read from Sierra Dean. Still loving this Secret McQueen. Her love life is as complicated as ever. You are kept guessing until the very end about what is going on and who is involved.

It's interesting how although Secret was first bonded to the King, that seems to be turning into more of a working relationship. I am curious to see what happens with that. In the mean time she is enjoying the hot second in command she is also bonded too. Enter the vampires that we are now finding out...more

This series is quickly becoming an addiction of mine. Luckily, I only have one more book to read in order to get caught up; I was starting to feel bad about neglecting the other novels waiting in my queue. Sierra Dean left me with no other choice though. Something Secret This Way Comes left me begging to know what happens next. I opted to save face a little and bought the next novel instead. A Bloody Good Secret starts off a little slower than its predecessor but don’t wo...more

I'm out about $10 for the first two books. I think I'm done and I'll just wiki the rest of the series. the Desmond vs Lucas debate is touched on a little here but there's the problem of clearing Holden's name. Glad there are other characters in the mix like Nolan and more Sig and Brigit. I skimmed a lot, which is a bad sign. I just wanted to know who she was going to pick and who the baddie was. I think I just miss my favorite characters by other authors that I started reading these series by Si...more

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, as well as the prequel novella, so I was looking forward to getting stuck into this one.

After the Tribunal gave Secret her latest assignment, she took off. How can she kill Holden without knowing what he's accused of? So, she's gone to spend a bit of time with her grandmother. But when she's forcibly taken back to New York, Secret has no choice but to face everyone and everything she ran away from.

Now, she's determined to clear Holden's name. Which...more

Sierra Dean is a reformed historian. She was born and raised in the Canadian prairies and is allowed annual exit visas in order to continue her quest of steadily conquering the world one city at a time. Making the best of the cold Canadian winters, Sierra indulges in her less global interests: drinking too much tea and writing urban fantasy.

Ever since she was a young girl she has loved the idea of...more
