It's Hazel's thirtieth birthday and she has everything she's ever wanted: a kickass job, a dream apartment in New York City, and the perfect boyfriend--who's just days away from proposing. Hazel thinks she's happy but isn't quite ready to settle down. So when her most far-fetched fantasy enters the realm of the possible, shouldn't she drop everything to see it through?

Hazel Lavery has just turned thirty. Her boyfriend’s awesome, and her job’s fabulous. I loved the first few chapters of The Rock Star in Seat 3A, when we meet Hazel and Wyatt. Then she meets her idol and has an existential crisis.

Who’s your musician/actor/sports idol? What would you do if Johnny Depp sat down next to you and started chatting it up and sparks are flying?

I loved Hazel’s reactions, they’re so what I’d imagine I’d say. The “OMFG!” part, that is. Not sure about the flirting back part...more

This book wasn't your typical fall in love with a rock star book. Hazel is madly in love with her awesome chef boyfriend Wylie and loves her job at Badass Games. She's been a gamer chick her whole life and has built her life around it. When she has to fly out to LA to prepare for a launch party for their newest game, she ends up next to her Rock Star Idol, Finn Schiller. They have an instant connection on the plane after bonding over the worst turbulence they've both ever encountered and by the...more

This wasn't really a book for me, hence the low rating. I mean, I don't care much about music. Or about celebrities. And I don't fantasize about meeting rock stars or other celebrities. So, why did I pick up this book? I’m not sure. It seemed like a nice and light read, is all I can say.

Other than that, the writing was so loud. So terribly loud, that I almost could not follow along with the roller-coaster language assaulting my brain. Written in a language that is not mine (I mean, culturally -...more

MY THOUGHTS
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT

As Hazel approaches her thirtieth birthday, she offhandedly comments that her "free pass* would be Finn Schiller, of the band The Void. In a really happy and committed relationship with Wylie and a kick ass job as a publicist for the hottest game company in the world, she realizes that she doesn't have time to sow her wild oats and must really decide whether she wants to settle and settle down. Then, fate intercedes and she ends up on a flight sitting right next to...more

Hazel is a major video gameaholic. This is perfect as she works for Badass Games. Their greatest claim to fame is Pimps N; Ho's. Hazel is going out to LA to coordinate the release party of Pimps N' Ho's, Volume 5. Hazel has a good job and a great boyfriend in Wylie. Wylie is a chef. Hazel loves to eat and thus she is the perfect taste tester for Wylie's food.

During a game with friends, they shared if they had a "pass" from their partner, who would they have sex with. For Hazel, this is a no bra...more

Short doesn't necessarily mean bad. I think that if you sat down and thought about it, you'd be able to come up with a huge amount of books under 200 pages that packed a bunch. Which is my transition into why I didn't like this book. The main character has an awesome boyfriend. He's a chef. He seems very cool. But like most Americans, she is starstruck with the idea of celebrity. So whens he has a chance to sit next to a rock idol and he seems interested, he goes on a break with her boyfriend an...more

I really wanted to like this book based off the premise: regular girl randomly meets her rock star crush, it's massive attraction at first sight, hot affair ensues, fantasy stuff, right? Great premise, hot fantasy. However, Hazel leaves her sweet, doting boyfriend of three years to go off to fantasyland with a virtual stranger after two days. She talks like she's 16, instead of the over-the-hill 30th birthday she just suffered through (referenced many times). The made-up words splattered through...more

Cue The Cranberries' "Disappointment".

(view spoiler)[The Rock Star in Seat 3A boasts being a "fairy-tale romance with a twist" when, in actuality, it is simply a re-hash of nearly every romantic comedy. The ending to this novel wasn't so much of a "twist", but rather a derivative and underwhelming finale to a book that hides behind the facade of most girl's fantasy of living happily ever after with their Rock star God.

I wanted to like Rock star in Seat 3A, but, let's face it, I read books to e

I saw this book come through the library and I just loved the premise - woman that has just turned 30 meets the rock star fantasy crush of her dreams on a flight and sparks an immediate connection with rock star. She takes off on a wild adventure with the rock star while finding out what she really wants in life.

The reality of this book is that it did not live up to my expectations of how great such a novel could be. Sure, main character Hazel meets her rock star fantasy on a flight from New Yor...more

I picked up this book thinking it would be pure chick-lit fluff and was pleasantly surprised to find it had much more heft than anticipated. Don’t get me wrong, I do love chick –lit fluff, but The Rock Star in Seat 3A was a blessing in disguise. Kargman has an extremely quick-witted writing style that bursts from the page with sarcasm and bite. From the very beginning I found myself on our protagonist’s side. Hazel is funny and smart with a doting chef boyfriend and a fabulous job. Add to the mi...more

Firstly I should say that I did receive this book for free through the Goodreads First Reads about 6 months ago and I just now got around to reading it.

I loved the premise of this book because I can be a little fan girly when it comes to musicians and what not. Probably because my guy is a musician ;) So, needless to say I was excited to read this book.

Hazel is just an ordinary girl with an ordinary life. She has a family and a man that she loves to death. Also like many of us she has her dream...more

I am not much for romance novels, but liked Jill Kargman's "The Rock Star in Seat 3A". The book is fast paced, making for light, summer reading. If one does not object to sex and foul language.

At Hazel's 30th birthday party dinner, the guests play a "what if" game. If they met their favorite celebrity crush, got a free pass from significant other, who would it be. Hazel's crush is...more

This was a quick beach read, perfect for summer!

Hazel’s dream came true and she got to meet the man she’d been fantasizing about for half her life. And she met him in very undesirable circumstances…bumpy plane ride where he holds her hair while she pukes in a barf bag. During the rest of the flight Finn and Hazel really hit it off and wind up have dinner while she is in Los Angeles.

Only problem, Hazel is on the verge of becoming engaged to Wylie. What’s a girl to do when the man of your dreams i...more

This was a very short, quick novel about a woman (Hazel) who is very happy in her life with her work, friends and almost-fiance, when she meets the rock star she has always dreamed of. He is as sexy and interesting in person as she always thought he would be and they fall for each other. The book follows what happens afterwards. It's a pretty typical story about thinking you want one thing and realizing maybe what you had was better. There was nothing wrong with the story, other than it being a...more

Hazel thinks she’s happy: loves her job, loves her chef boyfriend and living a great life in NYC. After celebrating her thirtieth birthday, her company sends her to LA to scout locations for a big event. And while seated in first class, she is sitting next to Finn Schiller, this one rock star that she has been drooling over for most of her life. They start talking; hit it off and the next thing one knows; life has changed for Hazel.

This novel is a quick ride to a fantasy that many think about, b...more

Billed as a fairy tale novel, this book is really more of a short story/novella at just under 200 pages. I'm glad it was shorter than a novel, because I'm not sure I would have finished it had it been longer. Lots of couples joke about having a celebrity "free pass," a person with whom an affair would be excused. So what happens if one of the couple really does meet their pick, form a connection, and run out on a 3 year relationship on a lusty whim? This book seeks to answer that question. The b...more

This was more of a novella than an actual novel of any sort of length or substance. I am missing Kargman's days of "Momzillas" and "The Ex-Mrs. Hedgefund" and with the most recent two fiction disappointments, I'm losing hope she will find her way back. Her semi-autobiographical book was just as it is titled, a bit nutty. Is this the same author? This book seems like she gave up trying to create an interesting plot and just thew in a whole bunch of swear words, dirty texts, and sex scenes (someth...more

Romances with love triangles where both potentials are worthy, make me anxious. Because I really love a HEA and I can't see any way for that situation to end where everyone wins. Then I sit there feeling bad for some imaginary guy, maybe having a conversation with the heroine, which then may happen out loud instead of just in my head, causing people in general vicinity to look at me funny...

Best to avoid the entire thing. That said, this book resolved that dilemma pretty well. Granted, you have...more

I loved the premise of the book. I really loved the writing. Kargman is extremely funny, with a unique voice that is perfect for her story. A quick, quirky read, with an ending that was surprisingly powerful.

My only complaint was that it was a bit short, only 200 pages (thus the quick read). I would have loved more details about the rock star and the heroine and more foreplay (figuratively, not literally :)). It perhaps would have made Hazel more sympathetic to the reader. I totally got her reac...more

This isn't the type of book that I normally read, but the premise of the story sounded fun. As a lifelong metalhead I have had my fair share of rock star fantasies, so I took a chance that this would be a guilty pleasure read.

The Rock Star in Seat 3A is brash, immature, and ripe with foul language. It has a young adult feel to it, and is terribly gooey with its cheesy dialogue. Still, it was kind of fun. The plot was predictable, and once you get used to the main character's verbal diarrhea, you...more

Didn't care for this book much at all. It definitely was not how I thought it would be.
Firstly, I knew that Hazel was meeting her rock star crush, but I did NOT know that she'd be dumping her almost-fiance to go traipse around with him. I guess that's what I get for not looking into books before I read them!
Anyway, besides that fact, it was super crass! I'm no saint or anything and I've never cared about swearing in books before, but this was almost overkill with the language for me - All of i...more

What a wonderful little gem! From the moment I started this book I couldn't put it down. I loved Hazel and her no censor button look on life. Both main male characters captured my heart and I found myself torn between who Hazel should find her place with. The whirlwind romance fantasy come true to a romance so pure and true Hazel must figure out where her puzzle piece fits. The ending was emotional and superb. My heart was racing and my stomach was in flutters. Nothing better than reading a stor...more

I both loathed and loved this book in ways...What girl doesn't dream of meeting her all-time celeb crush and jetting off with him??? So getting to live vicariously through that was awesome! However, leaving your whole world behind to go screw a rock star? Reprehensible! And the fact that Wylie took her back? UNREALISTIC! That would never happen, unless he was completely ball-less! I tend to lean towards realistic fiction, so I wasn't 100% sold on this book.

Books about rock stars are AWESOME. I’m not joking. There’s something so cool about reading about a normal girl meeting a rock star. I don’t know what it is, but it’s fantastic. First, Johnny By Good by Paige Toon, one of my ALL TIME favourites. And now The Rock Star in Seat 3A which is the most epically awesome books I’ve read this year. I’ve never read a Jill Kargman novel before, but as soon as I saw the description I was hooked. HOOKED, folks. I pre-ordered it immediately and read it as soon...more

Okay, most of this book is such the stuff of fantasy that I started to seriously wonder if this was just going to turn out to be a dream or something the main character was having. And, OF COURSE, part of the appeal of this book is the fantasy. But, well, I want my fantasy to seem like it COULD happen, you know? This didn't. And then (view spoiler)[she doesn't even end up with the rock star! If you're going to go over-the-top, with everything seeming just perfect, then that has to happen! Oh, ex...more

3.5 stars. Hazel's got her dream job of working for a video game company, a boyfriend who's a chef, and yet when she takes a business trip across the country and ends up sitting next to the rock star who was her childhood crush (and still current obsession), she can't help falling for him and wondering if she's about to live out her fantasies. Hazel and Finn (the rock star) get along so well and end up on a whirlwind tour of LA together. Although Hazel feels slightly guilty about Wylie, the boyf...more
