Nicolle does this kind of repetition well, sort of like a Joe Brainard/Shane Allison kind of thing. Her rhythm is sharp and the images/emotional impact is fully realized, whether she's being funny, sad, or somewhere in between. Like this line:
"one time i really liked this guy as a friend but then i saw him read his poetry and thought, “that’s it? that is what the big deal is about?” then i tried to be friends with him anyway but just couldn’t."
