Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.

And what a game Lucien plays! He devotes his life to exacting revenge on those who wronged him. Typical right? But while he has this whole thing set up, like a chess game, he wasn’t expecting his partner to be quite the adversary she turns out to be. But Lucien is blinded by his revenge, unable to see what is actually right in front of him. Sophie.

Sophie is spunky, smar...more

I'm giving this book 4.5 stars. This was a well-rounded story and had me hooked from the first page. The book was well-written and intrigued me as to the reason Lucien invited Sophie to the island. You knew he had ulterior motives from the beginning; throughout the book, your trying to piece together the hints the author drops as to what his motives truly were. The explanation in the end was truly a shock and made you feel for all of the characters and what they have been through. I loved this b...more

The sex is HOT (Cameron Dane's sex is always hot), but unlike in most of Dane's books, the sex was divorced from any believable emotional ties, which made the story very Meh. The reader knows from the beginning that Lucien is out to get revenge on Sophie, but not the whys and wherefores of the plot. Sophie is so sweet and naive and adorable (sort of gaggingly so, honestly), that Lucien's revenge plot is distasteful even when the reader doesn't understand it, and he seems like an asshat. When the...more

A non-stop erotic ride that will leave you breathless but still wanting more.

Fledgling television producer, Sophie Emerson, has just scored what could be her big break. The elusive Lucien Cabot, owner of Ravenstoke, an island castle steeped in mystery, has agreed to give her a story and carte blanche access, too. The only catch is she has to come alone and immediately. Though she is wary, her curiosity gets the better of her, and off she goes.

The trap has been sprung. Lucien Cabot can taste vict...more

A solid 4 stars solely for the goth like atmosphere and the really awesome sex/BDSM scenes. Nothing too heavy just a LOT of variety. Up to about 50% in I was actually actively disliking it - I could not imagine how I would get through it as I had zero connection to the characters. While my connection did not change there was all sorts of some's going on (threesome's foursome's, funsome's, etc) and I was all on board with that. The big revenge plot was interesting - I had a feeling but it still s...more

This is a difficult book for me to review, likely because I'm such a big fan of Cameron Dane's work. I loved the gothic elements of A Perfect Storm Rising and said elements are what drew me into the story. But the romance, the characters, the revenge plot, and the sex simply didn't work as well for me. I can't quite put my finger on why, but none of those four elements felt organic to me. The characters and their motivations were missing that spark of realism I generally find in Ms. Dane's work,...more

Kind of tough to rate. A really cool idea but execution lacking. The premise is that a man is ensaring a woman in some sort of revenge plot (that we know from the beginning, although we don't learn the details until later). It's also got this whole gothic feel despite being a contemporary, that was interesting. The execution fell short because it was overwritten. The same things were repeated over and over... and over. I almost DNFed but managed through by skimming passages. By the end it redeem...more

This book is awesome! Lucien is a complicated man. He is deceptive, manipulative, and cold. He is also vulnerable, passionate, and loyal. Throughout the book, I wanted to kick his ass, but I also wanted to love him and fix him. Sophie is honest, sweet, intelligent, perceptive, and innocent. She is a very strong woman. She handled Lucien’s betrayal with grace and forgiveness. I loved the sincerity and the affection in the relationships between Lucien, Magnus, Emma, Jade, Cale, and Owen. This is d...more

Part of me thinks that I really shouldn't like this story... but I do. There's so much wrong with it, but overall, it captivated me. No way should the Heroine forgive the tortured "Hero", especially at the end. And no way that the Heroine shouldn't be in shock of some sort, after all she's seen and done in this weird place with this strange group of people.

But I did like it. So sue me.

So disappointing. I hardly ever read m/f but was willing to make an exception for one of my favorite authors. Sadly, this story did not work for me on any level. I disliked the characters, the plot was overwrought and melodramatic, and the sex was just too much (there are scenes between so many people, and I just didn't care about any of them).

I enjoyed this story. While I'm not sure I would have as easily forgiven Lucien's actions as Sophie did, the author did an excellent job of explaining his motivations and making me care for both characters. I also came to care for the supporting characters and hope her next book gives two of those characters their happy ever after.

Definitely not a believable contemporary romance, but then again erotic fantasy doesn't have to make sense story wise. Well written ClitLit with hot erotic scenes and a basic story line that contains all the elements it's supposed to have.
Andrea
I love all of the characters from this story, and I can't wait to read Magnus and Royce's story!

I really enjoyed this book, although some of it came as a bit of surprise. Actually, that's not really the right way to say it. Cameron Dane always writes incredibly intense stories involving many different sexual elements. And, I love all of her works.
A Perfect Storm Rising is just another example of her willingness to demonstrate that their really are no limits to discovering ones sexuality and embracing it.

As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong with Cameron Dane. This is another winner with a wonderful HEA.

A Perfect Storm Rising (Kindle Edition)
I am an air force brat and spent most of my growing up years living overseas in Italy and England, as well as Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia while we were stateside. I now live in Florida once again with my big, wonderfully pushy family and my three-legged cat, Harry. I have been reading romance novels since I was twelve years old, and twenty years later I still adore them. Currently, I have...more
