Werewolves are real. And they make excellent pets.

Owning one of the legendary creatures is the latest fad. The WereHouse insists their werepets are loyal, docile, and 100% safe, but what happens when these gentle giants turn on their masters?

While on a routine EMS call, paramedic Christine Alt is attacked by a rogue werepet. She escapes with her life, but the encounter lea...more

An irresistible blurb drew me into this tale: Werewolves are real. And they make excellent pets.

The WereHouse has domiciled werewolves as very expensive pets, it will set you back $250,000 to have one of these supposedly passive beasts instead of a dog or cat. Written by a newer writer, a firefighter by day, it's no surprise that scenes involving EMTs are done very well, but most of the writing came off to this reader as blasé.

There were a lot of--too many--questions I had about what type of pa...more

I enjoyed the change of storyline as the werewolves being made into " werepets". Interesting and pretty fast read. The characters were well written although they could've been a bit more developed.

Werewolves are discovered, and mankind’s reaction to this? Kidnap them, enslave them, break their humanity and turn them into pets. It’s certainly a new and intriguing spin on ye olde werewulfen story. And, sadly, something I can actually see happening.

That said, I had some difficulty suspending disbelief for this one. How are the Werehouse allowed to sell seven foot tall beasts with teeth that can take off heads? Werewolf bites are infectious. It doesn’t matter how “tame” a pet is, shit happens...more

I thought that the concept of this book was incredibly interesting and different from any other werewolf novel I've ever read. To think that people could decimate and then domestic creatures like this is a fascinating premise though I feel as though the plot movement as well as the writing style used in Tamed failed to support the grander ideas that I got from reading the summary.

The characters in Tamed all fell flat of the personalities that were given to them. There wasn't much description in...more
Fangs for the Fantasy
In Brown's world, not only are werewolves real, society has supposedly tamed them and turned them into pets. One company is responsible for their training and distribution and this has made the owner Bernard, one very reach man. When Christine Alt, a paramedic responds to an emergency call, she learns that the hype about docile werewolves has been just that, hype, when she and her partner Billy, are attacked and their lives are changed forever. Christine quickly goes from caring for people to ru...more

This book had too many simple sentences. These are the sentences that go like "he did this. Then he did that. Then he did something else". Sentences that lack clauses. Sentences that I find boring. This also becomes a huge problem near the end, where the action is given in one sentence, and the response in the next. In one instance, a character is attacked, so the sentences go: "So-and-so was attacked. His attacker tore his flesh. He felt pain spreading throughout his body"--in other words, stru...more

It's good to see a proper werewolf story again after all the vampire/werewolf Romance rubbish that has been getting churned out.

Tamed has an interesting and original concept. A company called the WereHouse is supplying rich people with unique pets, tame werewolves! From the start you just know it has to go wrong. You soon learn the dubious origins of the supply chain and that periodic re-training is required to keep the pets docile. When paramedics are called to a house where a werepet has gone...more

Tamed by Douglas R Brown tells the story of WereHouse, a business that deals in the sale of werewolves as pets. Christine is a paramedic who has never trusted the creatures, but she has to deal with them on her calls. After a call that goes terribly wrong the werepets start to act strangely towards Christine and she begins to notice some things changing about herself. The story develops following Christine and her investigations into WereHouse.

Douglas has done a great job with this book. Werewol...more

A werewolf as a pet? Yes. You can even trust them with your children. They are docile and loyal to their masters. One werepet will set you back $250,00 plus an additional $50,000 yearly maintenance fee. I loved the premise of this book as it definitely was a different spin from the normal werewolf book. Usually I'm not a fan of werewolf or paranormal fiction, but this one was different and overall I really like it.

If you are looking for a light, but action filled book then this is the one for yo...more

It’s been said, Every dog has its day. That old adage has been quoted since the 16th century. Well, now the werewolves are having theirs…

Tamed is a novel difficult to summarize. Well-written, with concise descriptions and narrative, it takes a unique view of a legendary subject. At first glance, the main characters seem stereotypical…the ruthless businessman, determined to make a buck at the expense of human life, his employee, abruptly disillusion as he learns the truth, the innocent victims fi...more

This book was brilliant!
Tamed ties together three separate stories- Christine, a paramedic who narrowly survives an encounter with a werg, Aiden, who hunts rogue wergs, and Steven, a homeless drunk taken by the Werehouse. The three learn to live with ever-changing rules, as they share a common goal: to take down the Werehouse.
It was was a fascinating take on werewolves, with an interesting premise.
I loved how the stories all came together, even of it was a bit campy. The action kept right on...more

I did not know what to expect with this book, I had never heard of it before, but it sounded interesting and it was just sitting on my Kindle, so I thought I would go ahead and read it. I was just surprised about how much I liked it. Ok, the beginning (like many novels) took awhile to sink in because this is a werewolf book unlike many other were books out there. It isn't a happy frolicking through the woods type of story; this is a pretty gritty story with many different characters involved. Th...more

The booked 'Tamed', by Douglas R.Brown was a casual, well-rounded read. It had a lot of the elements of an easygoing, fun, yet slightly dark story that could easily be seen as a film. I love action. I love thrills and suspense. I love blood and beasts and dark twists. This book had all of that. I don't ask much from any book I've read or WILL read, but, if there was any nitpick that stuck out above all others, it was the repeated use of names or titles at the beginning of sentences.

This is a story about werewolves as pets.
The premise sounded interesting. Unfortunately the actual story is not.
Where do these werewolves come from? What do you feed them? These questions will be answered. Unfortunately, the answers are not that engaging. I felt that a lot more could've been done to change that.

Most characters were not very interesting or even likeable. When two characters met and fell in love within about 5 minutes, I got aggravated. Who does that? The most likeable character i...more

I read the premise of the book and found it interesting, and I got a copy for writing a review which is always a good exchange I think. honestly though if you could have a werewolf would you want one?I mean ya it sounds kind of cool, but you have to know that you are tempting fate by trying to harness that. The book was a fun quick read with characters that were easy to like. I liked the interactions between the characters and how the stories of each person related to one another. I do wish that...more

I really, really wanted to love this. Brown has come up with a unique concept and it sounded great from the blurb. The cover art’s worth a mention, looks pretty impressive, doesn’t it? Simple and effective. Definitely eye-catching.

Sadly, Tamed didn’t come anywhere close to meeting my expectations. I don’t like to slam anything from small press, which is why I’m not letting rip too much here, but I can’t in good conscience say anything in favour of this book. The writing is childlike in many plac...more

13264490 Absolutely loved the cover. As always, the cover is what grabs me at first glance. If it doesn't draw me, then chances are, I won't bother with a blurb. So someone give the cover artist a pat on the back. Because of the artwork, I signed up to read and review a book about werewolves, when normally I won't. Not that I don't dig the furry creatures, its just that rarely do I find anything "fresh" written about them.

In book Tamed we are presented with new possibility for all the werewolf legends. It’s very interesting point of view.

The twists and turns the story takes, keeps you reading and wanting to know more. There are parts which I do not recommend to read on lunch brake :) (as I did :)). From time to time the story might seem too simple – of course or heroine finds her hero just on the right time, of course our hero believes everything she says and has his own Eureka moment when he remembers his childh...more

Tamed is an interesting concept. Henderson, a greedy corporate magnate creates a business around selling werewolves as pets. They are guaranteed safe and the public adores them. There are some dirty secrets behind WereHouse. Christine, a paramedic who is bitten by a rogue werewolf, becomes a pawn in Bernard Henderson's plans. Help comes from an unexpected place.

I found the story a little predictable. I would have liked to have seen a little more character development to show why the people do wh...more

Werewolves as pets, and an EMT that discovers a dangerous truth...

The premise was definitely interesting enough for me to pick it up and give it a go.
However, as interesting as the concept could have been, for me the entire idea fell flat with simplistic and clichéd writing.

There was no real opposition shown to people having werewolves in their homes as safe pets, when there is currently outcry over dogs as small as pit bulls. That alone was enough to start jarring me out of the story.

It went o...more

The premise of this story was so intriguing that I dropped whatever novel I was reading at the time and instantly went for this one. The concept of the ultra-rich having werewolves as pets? LOVED it! Sure, nothing could go wrong with buying little Richie Rich a pet "werg", right?

Loved the fast-paced storyline and plot the most. This book is a quick, super fun read, and I enjoyed it reading it on the couch over the weekend.

Christine is an EMT who answers a distress call and ends up tangling with...more

A new fad has grabbed the imaginations and dollars of the public - pet werewolves and the Werehouse is more than willing to provide these animals for those who have the bucks to afford them. But, despite the hefty price tag, they are selling like crazy and it is hard to keep up with demand.

Tamed gives a new and interesting slant to the werewolf tale and, unlike the recent spate of werewolf romances, this one has fangs. Not to say that the novel is completely devoid of romance but, happily for th...more

A thrilling novel, TAMED by Douglas R. Brown had me at pet werewolves.

In the jungles of Costa Rica, the werewolf is a very real thing, and Bernard Henderson plans to cash in on this knowledge with his WereHouse, a place where werewolves are trained to be faithful pets. Yet when a werewolf pet goes rogue and attacks its owners as well two paramedics, it’s up to a team of hunters to stop them, until one learns the terrible knowledge of what a werewolf is really made of. They must race to bring the...more

This was an interesting book. Good premise, really neat ideas...too short. It feels rushed. I would have liked a lot more development, both of world and characters. The plot could have been fleshed out a lot more. The characters are shallow, one dimensional. The romance is so super-quick that it's ridiculous. I can't shake the feeling this book has so much more potential.

The author's writing style needs some developing. It's choppy and doesn't flow very well in places, enough that it actually d...more

When I read the summary of this book I just had to read it. Pet werewolves that turn on their masters? The chance to read a book where werewolves are the horrific, gruesome creatures they were first portrayed as before they became cuddly, romantic beasts? Yes please.

I really liked the different take on werewolves in this book. I do enjoy the occasional mysterious, hot guy turned werewolf love story as much as anyone but there's...more

My take:
The story was a very different take on werewolves than you usually read about in so many urban fantasies. I was a little taken back at first because so many vile characters were introduced at first that I didn't know who to root for.

The book made me mad--got me all riled up. It's one of those stories where people justify doing terrible, terrible things. I know there are people like that, and is they can justify their horrible deeds by saying that these are animals, then they keep doing t...more

I really liked this book. This isn't a book about your everyday werewolf fighting with his vampire nemesis over some dimwit. Did that make sense? This is a book about REAL werewolf shape shifters. They're dangerous, violent, and they kill. In a world where an evil man is making big bucks off of his werepet business with deceptive lies, one can only hope that these things are safe. Turns out they're not and you're taken through a wild adventure full of surprising plot twists and action to uncover...more

I originally thought this premise could be interesting. Toward the end of the book, I just started skipping things. I had read another review where someone commented on how two characters fell in love in like five minutes, and I have to admit that bothered me too. They knew nothing of each other. The other thing that killed it for me is that (view spoiler)[ no one seemed to figure out that werepets/werewolves were people! Really? They had movies about werewolves in this world, yet no one questio...more
