Excellent book. I really liked both Nate and Claire. When he came back from Afghanistan, Nate couldn't deal with Claire's husband's death, so he left for the US and took a job as a bodyguard for a rocker. He avoided all contact with his old friends, ignoring all attempts to contact him. When Claire needed him to sign some papers, she finally had enough and flew to LA to get him. After confronting him at a celebrity party, she shamed him into returning with him. He agreed on the condition that no...more
I haven't read a huge number of Karina Bliss's books, but what I've come to expect are stories that feature multifaceted characters who have realistic concerns, assorted believable relationships, and maturity. This book fell right in line. It's the third in a series, and I've read the two preceding books, but while characters from those books appear, and events are alluded to, it's not necessary in my opinion. Those characters add some depth to the world of the protagonists but their stories are...more
Really beginning to love Karina Bliss novels. This is the third book in a series about a group of special forces soldiers from New Zealand, though it is not necessary to have read the earlier ones to appreciate this story.
The story is as much or more about recovering and moving on from the loss of a close loved one than about the romance between the hero and heroine, Nate and Claire.
And now is where I bemoan the fact that I didn’t review it right after I finished it. I enjoyed it and appreciate...more

4 stars. Really, really good. This book is much more intense than I expect from a Harlequin romance and actually has relatively little straight up romance in it, but it was a very emotional story of how the survivors cope with the loss of fallen soldiers and was very well done. Gotta admit I was as enamored of the dead husband as I was of the hero before it was all over. The book is part of a series but stands alone. I'm off to read the first two now.

Wow. I loved this book, and would have read it in a single sitting if I could--I just didn't want to put it down for anything. Out of the series so far, it's hands-down my favorite...but of course Lee's story is next, so who knows...
Both Claire and Nate were written amazingly well. I really appreciated that Claire had a good, solid first marriage, but that it wasn't perfect--and her new relationship (when she finally had one--it moved slowly, as it absolutely should, thank goodness) didn't once...more

This was a Smart Bitches Trashy Books book club read for me, which I'm happy with because normally this cover would have caused me to ignore this book and that would have been a tragedy.
If you like romance even a little this is a book for you. There is so much here to love: Nate and Claire are both brilliant characters; fully complex and wonderfully realistic. This is the third in Bliss's Special Forces series and they are all worthy, the first and third better than a somewhat frenetic second. The experience of reading them, however, followed a similar pattern. Up to three-quarters of the book, I loved it and gleefully anticipated slapping on my 5/5 verdict, thinking, "Ah, I've hit on a keeper." Now, there is no doubt that these stories are heart-wrenching and moving, with strong characterization and a sensitive touch to the experiences of returning v...more
I really loved this book and read it in two days. There's a piece of information the hero witholds from the heroine until the last ten pages, and it felt like author intrusion a little bit that the author chose to drop the bomb like that. And I wish there'd been one final scene showing the hero and heroine happy, but these are minor complaints. This was a wonderful book. The people who populated the pages felt real, their struggles and emotions realistic. I'd recommend this book to any fan of co...more
And Ms Bliss has done it again! This series just rips at my heartstrings and makes me smile and tear up sometimes all at once. The hero was dealing with some serious understandable guilt and I loved how he and the team worked to save a marriage they all depended on in their past. That story about the letter was absolutely wonderful! The heroine was also dealing with guilt, her feelings, concern for her son & mother-in-law along with her future and the loss of part of her 'family'. I am looki...more

I thought Bring Him Home was a sensitive exploration of guilt, regret, and acceptance. I liked that Karina Bliss depicted that there can be different loves during a person's life. I liked the main characters, Claire and Nate, but I really liked how supportive, understanding, and fun the secondary characters were. It was a really good story.
I cried at the author notes my first attempt at reading this. Fortunately, second try I got past them and actually into the book. I couldn't put it down.
If I knew the secret behind Karina Bliss' style - so fluid, engaging, everyday yet poignant - I would be a much better writer. She really is an incredibly talented author who simply does not get the recognition she deserves.

Everything Ms. Bliss writes is fantastic. However, I had problems connecting with the main characters in this one, not individually but as a couple. All the key ingredients were there but I didn't feel the magic and I can't tell why. The romance develops slowly and the heroine is struggling with the husband's death. I really loved the fact that she felt betrayed by him -- her grief was genuine, and that part was very well done. Also loved the hero and his own internal struggle. But their pairing...more

I've read Karina Bliss before and enjoyed them. They're good. But this one is better than good, it's great. The romance is slow in developing which completely fits the situation. The grief over lost husband/friend is well written and believable. The ending is a little abrupt which keeps it from being a 5 star, but this is good. Really, really good.

I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was twelve but then I forgot and did a lot of other things instead. These included getting an arts degree in English and Political Studies at Auckland University (New Zealand), a postgraduate degree in periodical journalism at the University of London, travelling, having my heart broken a couple of times, meeting the right guy, building a house, having a baby - t...more
