Oh Jude Deveraux. Why don't you have your characters use condoms? You have stories that are consistently good, but the sex scenes are so dated. The main characters just "know" that they are meant for each other (without talking about what exactly the relationship is) and they just immediately fall into bed. Sigh.
Kim Aldredge is floundering a little. Her best friend has just married her cousin and, while she's happy for them, she's feeling a little left behind. (In her mid-twenties? Really?) She'...more

I really enjoy Jude Deveraux, she writes these wonderfully complex stories complete with character histories and usually an extensive family. There is so much going on in her stories that a reader just feels right at home. In one of her books, A Knight in Shining Armor (I think) she talks about one of the characters aunt's friend. This friend likes to try on tiaras and run around acting like a princess. Now for those of us who are familiar with that particular series it makes perfect sense. And...more

My Rating: 3.5

Stranger in the Moonlight is the first book I read written by Jude Deveraux - and boy, did she win my heart! I honestly wasn't expecting much of Stranger in the Moonlight - just that the book had a very nice intriguing cover. Little did I know, the inside of the book is as good as the outside.

The prologue was slow and boring, but sweet. I know it helps introduce the relationship between two characters, namely Kim and Travis, but it had me wondering if the book was truly worth my...more

Author Jude Deveraux returns to her fictional community of Edilean, VA with "Stranger in the Moonlight". As children, Kim Aldredge and Travis Maxwell met one Summer when he and his mother spent a brief time in Edilean. Somewhat mysterious, and unlike any other boy she'd ever met, twelve-years-old Travis found a place in the heart of eight-years-old Kim. They formed a unique, deeply-felt bond, and Travis promised to one day return to Edilean. Eighteen years later, Travis is a successful attorney,...more

I had highly anticipated this book to come out. If it was anything like Moonlight in the Morning I'd surely be swooning and swept away by the main male character, in this case, Travis, but he somehow fell flat. His 'life revolved around Kim' creed was flattering but telling the woman you love that you've stayed away from her to 'practice' with other women in bed so that you wouldn't displease her in the future somehow didn't strike me the least bit romantic. It gets worse. Travis stayed away fro...more

Pretty good. I don't know why I find myself skimming pages to move on, but lately more and more I do this in books. I don't know, too much focus on a particular story line, lose interest? Anyway, All in all I enjoyed it and it was a fast read.

While I really enjoyed this book, as I do all of Deveraux’s work, I have no problems admitting it was flawed in some ways.

When Kim reunites with a childhood friend who disappeared after two weeks of intense child’s play, she is just as infatuated with him as she was as a child. She wonders why he mysteriously showed up in Edilean after disappearing all those years ago. Travis’ mother has been hiding out from his father for years and now wants a divorce so she can remarry. Travis has been protect...more

Disclosure: I won this book from Goodreads.

This story has mutliple points of views. Nearly each character presents their point of view and the book is written that way. For me, there were too many characters and far too many POV's.

This story begins as pre-teen boy meets younger girl who go their own ways after two weeks but they carry on with their lives remembering each other.

So it begins slightly boring but sweet. Areas rambled a bit unnecessarily but the theory behind the book was enough mot...more

A i potom, co j...more

I'm biased with plots revolving around childhood friends torn apart not seeing each other for many years only for the relationship restored by fate and in the process have fallen in love with each other. That made me interested in this book. I don't read Jude Deveraux's books that much. Heck, I even fell asleep towards the middle of her "Remembrance" novel (but I will give it justice soon). I read romance novels and I find historical romances quite entertaining *cough* Barbara Cartland *cough* a...more

Man, I really didn't like this book.
I have read 37% of it and it's just awful!
I really wanted to like it, but the dialogues are so impossible that it is driving me crazy.
Everyone is incredibly perceptive -even the guys! It is completely unrealistic!
I don't understand what she was thinking when she wrote this! Do we all live in a Gilmore Girls world? People don't speak that way!

OK, It got a little intense, but this books is driving me insane, and I can't put it down cause I can't leave a book unf...more

I liked the whole premise of the book, "meet as children, reconnect/fall in love as adults," but beyond that the plot was contrived. Everything happened so quickly, and the resolution was hard to believe. Still, I gave the book a fair rating because I have a thing for friends falling in love and the strong, silent male role. The characters were likable and, at times, made me forget the awkwardness of some of the scenes. Overall, good, easy read, but nothing that makes me anxious to read the rest...more

Disclosure:I won this book from Goodreads.com Thank you!!

I felt like this book was missing something...idk if it was lack of passion, spark, anticipation...but it felt rushed. I have read ALL of Ms. Deveraux's books and they have all had heart an it is almost like you are in the book while you are reading it, but this one lacked that.

One of the main things I was disappointed in was how she did Travis's half brother, it was almost like he was an after thought...let alone how fast he got engaged!...more

When I looked at the cover, I thought it would be a cute book ans it is but with a mild edge that made me appreciated more. It's the first book but Jude Deveraux that I read and I absolutely adore her writting style. I found it non judgemental (It might not be the right word but it's the only one that came to mind) Stranger in the Moonlight is a modern fairy tale. It's family oriented, the setting is a small town, the characters are superb and there is a fun factor that is almost absurd sometime...more

I love the fact that they started as childhood friends and that they learned to love each other since then. It's amazing how two people who were set apart by certain circumstances, still get to feel the same way towards each other. Although there have been changes within themselves, the spark still remained. Then again, I also loved the passion of the main characters towards their careers.

All in all, I think what worked for me is the spark and the love that remained until the very end.

Love this author's voice, however the pacing fell flat with the contrived secondary plot thrown in before the contrived ending. This series has been akin to "The Secret Garden," which is a nice escape, but the characters aren't believable to me. I still read most of her writings, and will continue as a loyal fan. Think the reading public has had its fill of fantasy and magic dictated from publishers to sell to the current trend market. And, so now it's growing old.

Stranger in the Moonlight is about Jecca's friend,Kim, from Moonlight in the Morning. She met Travis when she was 8 years old and he 12. She taught him to ride a bike and "have fun". He didn't know how to "be a kid" before her presence in his life. He disappeared after 6 weeks of summer. She never knew what happened to him but she always kept an eye out. She meets him again when we find out the mysterious Lucy, the seamstress from Moonlight in the Morning, is his mother and she is hiding from hi...more

I liked the H. I think he had some interesting aspects to his character. The h did too but I think maybe the H was better written. Parental manipulation typlically makes for a good story as it's something most can relate to. This is of course one those extreme examples and you can only wonder what it is like to be a trust fund kid. Glad the H stuck out on his own before coming back to mom. Sweet story.

I won this book from Goodreads - Thank you!

"An enchanting new contemporary romance set in Edilean, about two childhood friends who are reunited after years apart, only to discover that the spark they felt even as kids still remains..."

This is a tale of one of 3 college roommates who have stayed friends since their graduation. And about how love finds a way in the most crazy circumstances.

Kim Aldredge, one of the 3 friends, at age eight met twelve-year-old Travis in his home town of Edilean, VA....more

I really enjoy Jude Deveraux's writing. There is so much going on in her stories with the history and matchmaking that I never want to stop reading her books.

Stranger in the Moonlight is a story about life and love. It's about two people who met as children and tried to find their way back to each other as adults.

I got so caught up in Stranger int he Moonlight that I cried at the end.

I enjoyed the link to the past in this book. While some of the connections seemed more real life than most books ("stranger than fiction" and people behaving deviously to hide their true intentions/feelings/life, it was still just a 3 star book to me. Definitely worth the read but would never make my reread list (but most won't).
Kristin
This wasn't my favorite of her books, but I still liked it. I like the recurring characters who pop in and out of the series and I love Edilean. I wish I lived somewhere like that. Reading a Jude Deveraux book is like visiting old friends. Some of the reviews said it was confusing but I didn't find it that way. I think that maybe they hadn't read the previous books.
Angela
She took a break from the historic fiction and jumped on the bandwagon with the paranormal a bit, but she's back to the basics of men and women falling in love with the Edilean series. Hooray! What I like best about Jude is her dialogue and her strong, interesting female leads.
Shari
A young, mid-20's woman with her own thriving jewelry business needs the big, strong, rich hero from her childhood to help and guide her ......meh. Didn't like either hero and at one point TSTL heroine, but the back romance of the older couple was fun.
Jonique
I dont know what to rate this.......it was kind od bloody fricking stupid!! Abusive father who really isn't. brother gets engaged to a girl he met after two hours and it wasn't in Vegas please! maybe I just dont believe in fairy tales.

This book is still showing pre order and will be available july 28, yet there are 5 or 6 people who have given reviews on it saying they read it already. Is this a club where you can read books before they come out? Just curious.

An enjoyable book. The characters were well-developed and the story-line was very creative. The ending was a bit abrupt, but overall a well-paced and engaging read. It was refreshing for there not to be any over-the-top misunderstandings to drive the romantic leads apart.

Got sucked in to this series. Sweet, positive and uplifting along with being quick & easy reads. Wasn't too crazy about the ending as I felt it all got tied up way to quick and easy. But I enjoyed getting there! :)
Jennifer Rodgers
Loved this whole series. The character formation and repetition throughout the books was fantastic. You felt like you knew everyone in town and wanted to keeping learning anout relatives from Edilean.

Oh Jude Deveraux! It's been awhile since I've fallen hook, line, and sinker for one of your books, but this one is one I have! It is cheesy, over the top, sweet, and so very, very, ridiculously perfect.
