This anthology is a re-issue of two of Cindy Gerard's old Loveswept books and I was prepared for them to be dated and feel old fashioned but to my surprise I found myself engrossed in the book and loved the simplicity and sweetness of Into the Night and Man Around the House. My overall verdict of the anthology is enjoyable and I found it great to visit Cindy's old writing style before she ventured into Romantic Suspense.

Into The Nig...more This anthology is a re-issue of two of Cindy Gerard's old Loveswept books and I was prepared for them to be dated and feel old fashioned but to my surprise I found myself engrossed in the book and loved the simplicity and sweetness of Into the Night and Man Around the House. My overall verdict of the anthology is enjoyable and I found it great to visit Cindy's old writing style before she ventured into Romantic Suspense.

Into the Night

Into The Night was quite a sweet story I must admit and dealt with an older heroine. Jessie is 42 and her divorce a year earlier made her question her self-worth because after twenty-two years of marriage her husband filed for divorce, when she didn't think anything was wrong and now her life has changed, she has suddenly finds herself in a new city and famous for hosting a radio show with her younger and attractive boss Tony. This attraction kind of appals her and then she finds out it is not one-sided. I found the romance to be sweet even if it was fast moving. Tony had never really fallen for any woman so to find himself falling for an employee and one who had a grown daughter and thinking about things like commitment was quite a shock. I loved how he didn't let Jessie wallow in her past and told her that with her fears and doubts she was letting her ex win. Jessie was quite vulnerable yet sweet. There was a sub-plot in the book about a stalker that helped them grow closer. All in all a very sweet romance. Tony was pretty darn charming.

Man Around The House

I enjoyed this book quite a lot, Matthew the hero along with his five year old son Joey rescues his new neighbour Katie from the bath-tub and she and her hurricane ways blows his plans all to hell. You see Matthew lost his wife to cancer four years ago and in his grief drank, let his business go which forced his in-laws to take custody of his son. Matthew has spent the last three years rebuilding his life and to get his son back with him, he is even dating the perfect woman, it doesn't matter that Lisa, the woman he is dating is in love with her dead husband, she fits in with his plans. As things happen despite his best efforts he can't stay away from Katie and falling for her and he knows she feels the same even if she is scared of emotional intimacy and tries to back away from him.

From the start it is made clear that Katie is a crusader, something that hasn't been good for relationships and she doesn't think she deserves Matthew and his son or will help him. She has deep scars from her past, her lost child is alluded to but it is not till the very end that we are made aware of her issues. For the most part I enjoyed the book because Matthew was an amazing hero. There was plenty of steam in the book and moments like the chess game and sperm retention syndrome gave me good laughs but what detracted by stars was how long it took for Katie to realize that she was worth the love.

WORTH DYING FOR in a two-story anthology by Cindy Gerard. Both stories have been previously released and are award-winning novellas. Into the Night

Jessie and Tony are late night radio DJ’s and their show has taken off in popularity. They’ve done some creative ad campaigns, much to Jessie’s dismay and their ratings keep growing as she and Tony play off the fun of their sexy banter, even though they’re not a couple. Tony, one of the co-owners of the station, has a strict no dating policy among the workers and Jessie is still putting her life back together after her husband left her a year ago.

When threatening phone calls start coming in for Jessie that impact not only her but Tony, both their lives are in danger. It forces Tony and Jessie closer as they turn to each for help in figuring out who’s behind the phone calls and it ends up pushing their relationship to a new level.

This romance didn’t work for me at all. We go from Tony’s rule about co-workers not dating to having that basically tossed out the window when Jessie becomes the woman that Tony wants. It just felt like it moved too fast. Time doesn’t pass all that quickly, and it felt out of the blue that Tony is suddenly very possessive over Jess, wanting to protect her from these threats and telling her that they, as a couple, will happen, but he’ll give her as much time as she needs. It seemed very fast that this couple went from friends and co-workers to saying “I love you” and committing themselves to each other. There is also a small age difference between them, Jess being a little older, but we never know by how much. Tony refuses to tell her his age, I don’t know why this bugged me, he keeps his age from her in a very playful way, jokingly, but all I kept thinking was just tell her (and us) your age!

This short(er) story didn’t grab me. I never got invested in the main romance and the suspense plot wasn’t enough to keep me into the story and interested. 2/5

Man Around the House

This ended up being a cute romance; you have one accident prone heroine who lives next door to the hero, Matthew. He gets her out of a few scrapes and he and his young son start to bond with Katie. To start, there wasn’t much else going on in the story aside from the building romance, a romance that Katie is reluctant to let lead anywhere. Matthew is determined to get full custody of his son back from his in-laws. His wife died when their son Joey was a year old and Matthew fell into the bottle, drinking every night. For Joey’s own wellbeing, his in-laws petitioned for full custody and won. Matthew is back on track and ready to get his son back. Katie’s worried that she’s not the “right” woman for Matthew and Joey and that she’ll ruin his chances of being a family again with his son. But it came down to Katie being scared, as she too had tragedy in her past and she’s still dealing with the pain of losing her own child.

This was initially reading as a nice, simple romance. I found Matthew and Katie to be fun and charming and was enjoying seeing their story unfold. A bit of suspense is introduced about midway through because of Katie’s job. She’s investigating some questionable businessmen and her leads put her at risk. This plot felt thrown in and for me, it ultimately took away from was had been a sweet romance.

Suspense storyline aside, I did like the romance and the play between Matthew and Katie. They’re a fun couple, very romantic and I liked the addition of young Joey but I can’t say that there is anything in the story that stood out to make this one unique. If you’re looking for a quick, romantic read, this would fit the bill. 3/5(less)

Into the Night: Jessie is a radio copy writer/late-night DJ. Tony is the owner of the station and her co-host of Into the Night with the Falcon and the Fox. They have a little flirtation that is sent into hyperspeed by a stalker. I was a little turned off by the description of Tony as an Italian stallion, but then again this was written in the early 90s, when I was in high school and whorls of chest hair were über sexy. :| Overall ok. 4 stars

This is a re-release of two of her books...so two for one;) I really enjoyed it. Quick read. I got sucked in by all the characters. I found Jesse and Tony easy to relate to..maybe because of Jesse's age:) But, I often find myself with those same insecurities so it was easy to understand what she was thinking/feeling. The story line...I thought I knew who the stalker was, then didn't, then thought it was someone else...didn't see it coming..I liked that;)

This was actually two of Cindy Gerard's early books. Contemporary Romances -- I have only read her suspense-action romances, so this was something new and different. I enjoyed both stories. Her sense of humor shines through in these books.

Now, over 20 books and numerous awards later, Cindy laughingly admits that she can barely remember life before...well, was there life before writing?

Actually, yes there was, and still is. A professional career woman, Cindy is a trainer for the Iowa Department of Human Services, a position she states is both challenging and rewarding. Cindy's career has taught her much about the human condition, its frailties, its strengths, and its spirit. Yes, even Iowa has its share of that saddle-straddling, Wrangler-wearing species who love their horses almost as much as they love their women. As a matter of fact, recently a whole herd of Texans gathered at the Gerard "Ranch" to treat their little ones to real horseback rides. Go figure.

Cindy has a passion for pink depression glass — she always has her eye out for the special piece to add to her collection. Cindy's down time often takes the form of the classic "busman's holiday." She loves to read and most of all, she loves to read at their summer place, a cabin in the woods on Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota.

Both Tom and Cindy enjoy gardening and have recently expanded their annual beds into a perennial garden. Cindy says she can hardly wait for spring and the promise of all that reawakening and the colorful blooms.

In addition to the horses, the Gerards have two dogs, Ellie and Boomer, who pretty much get anything they want. Tom and Cindy have one son, Kyle, who, after years of keeping them in suspense, found Eileen, the perfect woman.
