The Mayor wants to bring some much-needed revenue into the Valley so he arranges for a major Hollywood movie to film using the Valley as their location. Of course, with major Hollywood blockbusters come major Hollywood stars and their entourages. In this case it’s tempermental Thad Perry. Thad not only has the reputation of a bad boy, but the requisite drug problems to go with it and, some strange connection to the Valley that no one has figured out. The Mayor’s office hires the Little detective...more
Chet the dog and his private investigator companion, Bernie Little, set out on case number 5 in this New York Times Bestseller series, Chet and Bernie Mysteries.
The mayor of the valley decides to bring some extra revenue to town by luring a Hollywood studio to shoot a big budget movie there starring movie idol, Thad Perry. Chet and Bernie are approached to keep an eye on the movie star who is known to have been a bit wild and unreliable in the past and is now under contract with the studio to d...more

The fifth in the Chet and Bernie series, the adventures of the Little Detective agency as told by Chet, the partner who happens to be a dog, is the best yet, but I think that about every new entry in this series. I listened to this book (read by Jim Frangione, who does a great job) while walking my own dog, and likely got a reputation around town as a nut because I so often found myself laughing out loud. I think any dog owner will recognize the traits of dogdom in Chet's "voice."

In the fifth book in the Chet and Bernie Mystery series, our favorite four-legged private investigator, Chet the Dog, and Bernie Little, his partner in the Little Detective Agency, are back on the job - - albeit not the usual missing persons case, or even the less-desired divorce work. He has been hired, on very generous financial terms, at the recommendation of the mayor’s office to make sure the young star in a new movie being filmed in their town stays out of trouble during the film shoot. A Chet and Bernie Mystery
Chet the Jet – so he calls himself is a smart pooch who is the four legged partner of the Little Detective Agency. Bernie is the “smartest guy in the room” and the brains of the operation. The entire story is told from Chet’s point of view, with help from dialogue that Chet hears. The plot lines are amazingly good for such a light hearted cozy mystery series.

The fifth and latest entry in the wonderful Chet & Bernie series, featuring the PI team of Bernie Little and his canine partner Chet, who narrates the stories.
In this mystery, Chet & Bernie are hired to ‘babysit’ a well-known film star, known to go astray, while he is in town shooting a new movie. Nothing is ever as straight-forward as it seems, though, and the boys are soon digging up secrets from the past. For more plot details, see Shelleyrae’s full review at Book’d Out.

My favorite narrator, Chet the Jet, the better half of the Little Detective Agency is back to solve a cold case crime. The case starts normally enough with Bernie Little being hired to make sure that a movie being shot in the valley proceeds with no slip-ups. That won't be easy since Thad Perry, the star, has major addiction problems. The reader knows the case will be solved with what Chet brings to the table. But Chet is under suspicion once Iggy's owner lets the proverbial cat out of the bag w...more

A motley mix of characters make up the fifth book of Spencer Quinn’s entertaining series of Chet the dog and his P.I. buddy Bernie Little. Add in an amusingly awful
Hollywood movie production and a dog as the narrator, and you have a treat of a read.
Low on money, Bernie agrees to work for the mayor’s office at the behest of his old friend Gronk. The assignment: watch over aging action star Thad Perry and make sure he avoids trouble. But trouble seems to be Bernie’s specialty as well, and he has...more

A Fistful of Collars by Spencer Quinn is the fifth book in the Chet & Bernie mystery series about Chet the dog and his owner Bernie Little, a private detective. Bernie and Chet are hired by the mayor's office to keep an eye on movie star, Thad Perry, whose new movie is shooting in town and good for business, but he has a reputation for trouble. Bernie's curiosity makes him check into Thad's past which sends the pair on one of most intricate cases of their career. The case gets even more comp...more
Bernie and Chet are a team. Bernie is a private investigator. Lately, Bernie has been feeling the pinch in his financial situation. If it was not for this, he probably would have argued more with the Mayor about his latest job. The mayor wants to hire Bernie to baby sit a movie star. The town is the setting for a movie and Thad Perry is the star. Bernie is no one’s baby sitter but the money is good. It seems that Bernie will have to earn his money when someone tries to go after Thad.

The idea of Spencer Quinn’s
Chet and Bernie Mysteries
has appealed to me for years, but because I don’t like mystery novels, I’ve never read one. When Simon and Schuster made A Fistful of Collars--to be released in a few days--available for review via GalleyCat, I decided to give the series a try. I’m so glad I did; not only did I find the book a very refreshing read, I’ve discovered a series I can wholeheartedly recommend to a Very Picky Reader, my husband.

“A “Tail” of Movie-Making, Money and Murder”
This is the first of the “Bernie and Chet Mysteries” I have read. It took me awhile to get used to the majority of the story being told by a suave, sleuthing, handsome, quick as a flash, member of the “Nation Within”-- a Scottie sidekick named Chet, who, with Bernie Little, makes up the unbeatable force behind the Little Detective Agency. Bernie’s life had had its share of bad luck lately. They had to try to locate a “new-to-them” vehicle as their last...more

This is the fifth book in the Chet and Bernie Mystery Series.
Bernie is a down on his luck Private Investigator and Chet, a dog who flunked out of K-9 School, is his faithful companion. The book is unusual in that Chet is the narrator and gives the dog side of human behavior and why dogs do the things they do.

Like its predecessor, Dog On It, this book is just plain fun. The adventures of Bernie Little, owner of the Little Detective Agency, and his lovable, obedient dog, Chet, continue in fine fettle -- as narrated, often with a touch of canine humor, by Chet. Add in the fact that it costs a mere $2.99 at Amazon.com as of this writing, and it's an irresistible deal.

Bernie Little and his faithful partner Chet are back in a brand new mystery. Did I mention that Chet is a dog?

One cannot help but wonder how long Spencer Quinn can go on with a series featuring a canine narrator. Each time I open one I expect this will be his swan song, but the author simply doesn’t flag--each new book in the series is as entertaining as the last! He manages to inhabit the minds-eye of a dog looking at human habits and create a voice for what a dog may think. If you imagine this cannot be funny for the fifth time, think again. Quinn has done it.

The mayor of the Valley wants to generate income for his community. He and a group of backers persuade Hollywood bad boy, Thad Perry, to film Wild Horseman in the Valley.
With Perry's questionable history, one prerequisite is that private eye Bernie Little and his dog Chet, watch over Perry to keep him out of trouble.
As Chet is the narrator, it's entertaining to be aware of his thoughts and senses as he tries to interpret a person's body language or observes actions that people do when they're no...more

The fifth installment in the (mis)adventures of Bernie and Chet the Jet measures up well against its four predecessors. And, as usual, ends leaving readers sitting up and begging for more! This may not be the series’ high point - compared to some of the other cases this dynamic duo has tackled, this one backdropped against a Hollywood movie set just doesn’t contain the same, pacing-and-whining suspense. It’s still a lot of fun though, and once again, altogether too fast of a read! There are some...more

Being an owner of a 90lb german sheppard who happens to be the sheriff's k-9 dog, i can totally relate to this series, which by the way i LOVE!
A fistful of Collars is the fifth installment of teh mystery series which features Bernie little and he partner chet, the k-9. The book is narrated by chet the dog, which can be annoying at times, but if you are a dog lover, you will soon learn to love.

I almost didn't request this book but I'm so glad I did! I received it from Simon & Schuster (an Atria Galley Alley grab, I believe) and I was a little worried because if I didn't like it I'd feel obligated to finish it so I could write a review. When I saw the description--a detective story told from the point of view of the P.I.'s dog--I got a little worried. I've tried reading those "non-traditional narrator" cozy mysteries before and I haven't had...more

I will just let go and give this one five stars. Chet and Bernie: Love them. This is the fifth in a series of detective books involving private detective Bernie Little and his partner Chet (the Jet), a large dog of indeterminate breed who narrates all of these books. I am convinced that dogs really do think like Chet--completely devoted and loyal to their partner, easily distracted by beef jerky and the occasional french fry found under the car seat, and generally able to shake off (literally ....more
Chet and Bernie are back, with a new case to solve, their ongoing financial difficulties, and a challenge in the form of a wonderful job offer for Bernie's girlfriend Susie, that will take her far away from Chet and Bernie.
Oh, and we also get a revealing new look at both Bernie and his ex-wife, casting fresh light on exactly why Leda took Charlie and left. Bernie's a great guy, but there are reasons Leda sometimes wants to do violence to him.

Chet and Bernie are my favorite private eyes. Why? Because they love each other unconditionally. They are loyal and understanding. Nothing comes close to the love between an human and his/her dog.

If you love dogs (OK even if you don't) Spencer Quinn's Chet is the best dog narrator ever. In his Chet and Bernie series, Chet is the dog, Bernie the PI. They solve crimes together. Quinn manages to get inside Chet's head and he is hysterical. Imagine a dog able to remember some things, get other things so wrong, yet they always get the bad guy. Chet's loyalty and love of Bernie are so heartwarming, you can not love these books. Plus the titles are great puns. Start with the 1st," Dog on it", s...more
I LOVE the Chet and Bernie mysteries. I think I've given the others all 5 stars. And I loved "Collars" as well, except that I thought the ending wrapped things up too quickly, leaving unanswered questions - not the kind that might carry over into the next book (I know what that one is here). Some of the characters (one in particular) who seemed to play minor roles - and thus weren't developed very much - played a big part later and yet the reader didn't really know, or understand them. But all t...more
It's hard to imagine a successful mystery series told by a dog, but Spencer Quinn's Chet and Bernie mysteries do exactly that. Chet's canine view of the world and his relation with Bernie, a private investigator, is both practical and sincere.
I love Chet's internal monologues, such as the first scence of the book when Bernie is interviewing a potential perp. "Nixon's big hands - fingers all oil-stained and as big as sausages - were hanging by his sides, doing nothing much. I hadn't had a good s...more

A Fistful of Collars is another enjoyable fast-moving adventure in the Chet & Bernie mystery series. In this book, Chet, the canine detective & his human partner and ex-cop Bernie investigate a movie star with a shady past. Told from the perspective of lovable Chet, the author really knows how to get into the head of a dog. Chet has expertise in scents and body language. He is enthusiastic about solving a crime, however, can get easily sidetracked by other animals, food scents, Frisbees,...more
This is the fifth Chet and Bernie mystery in the series involving Chet's own interpretation of the cases Bernie, the P.I. solves. Chet is a dog and does lots of interpreting, especially getting confused when Bernie uses idioms! Sometimes Chet's reasoning gets a little redundant, but you have to realize that he is a dog and a lot slips his mind. This story revolves around the murder of three people and the possible involvement of a famous actor who is visiting the valley and filming a movie. If y...more
The mayor wants to bring the movie business to the valley, and Chet and Bernie are just the guys to provide security for the visiting movie star, Chad (and see that he stays away from drugs and alcohol). This fifth book in the series featuring the financially clueless, environmentally conscious PI Bernie and his faithful dog, Chet, is just as humorous as the previous four. As in the previous books in the series, Chet narrates the story. He continues to be mystified by the breeze behind him when...more
This is the fifth book of the series, and my first time delving into the world of Bernie and Chet, and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m a huge dog lover, just ask my three spoiled pooches, so I LOVED that the book was told from the viewpoint of Chet, the side kick to the Little Detective Agency. I hope my dogs love me as much as Chet loves Bernie!
