Deckard Cain made his way across the floor, following the footprints to an alcove in the far wall. Rotted boards clung to supports, the last remains of an ancient library. This had been a ritual chamber, many centuries before, used to summon things from beyond the human world. A portal to the Burning Hells themselves, perhaps. The shelves were empty now. He saw a speck of...more

Started reading it for some random reason. Never played any of the games (though I've watched people playing it), so I online-researched a bit of the lore as the pages went by. Found it surprisingly interesting, though not quite exactly what I was hoping for from a Diablo-based book.

Deckard Cain's portrayal as an old, desperate, weary, guilt-ridden figure was unusual. He's not exactly your usual demon slaying character, but there's still a quite a lot of demon-killing and haunted-places-explori...more

Diablo:The Order by Nate Kenyon
Deckard Cain is a belligerent non-believer who is thrust into horrific circumstances due to his questionable heritage. Cain seems to hate himself more than he hates evil.

Deckard doesn’t have a lot of character pull. He isn’t someone that I found laudable, more petulant and put upon than heroic. He tries to do right but struggles with his own foibles. The world the story deals with is open to demonic interference and unholy alliances. It is a dark, sad world popul...more

"There has to be more," Cain said. That's how I felt halfway through the novel and that feeling continued until the end. And that's not a good feeling. Diablo III: The Order was a hard beast to digest because everything was well written but somehow it lacked that drawing power a well written novel should have. The lore was good, the character development was okay, the chapter pacing was good. So what went wrong? I am not sure. If I was to take a stab at it I think there wasn't enough conflict th...more

One of the best video game novelizations I've ever read. It really ties up the beginning of the story before the start of the game excellently. I will also mention that it describes the events of the other Diablos in case you haven't played them. It is a wonderful book for the hardcore fan and the new fan a like. They could have done a little more with some of the more horror aspects of the story. But it seemed like Nate Kenyon, who had actually written some stuff for Blizzard before. Might hav...more

This book bridges the gap between Diablo 2 and 3, and serves as a prequel for 3. While it was entertaining, it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. The Diablo games are all about killing demons. Constantly killing demons, you are never not killing demons. Your character faces impossible odds and mows down hordes of demonic enemies to finally triumph. The main character in this book however is Deckard Cain, an old man who talks a lot. Sure he's a fun character, but he has a bit of trouble carryi...more

Diablo III: The Order is based on the famous Diablo franchise.

I am a big fan of the series and have always liked the lore, so I felt reading the book was a sort of must for me.

The story takes place after the events of Diablo II and before the beggining of Diablo III. It's about Cain and Leah and Cain's quest to find more about an evil that is about to rise once again.

Well, let me be very honest with you. I was generous by giving 3 stars to this book. If I wanted to be more rigid, it'd have recei...more

By far best book of the Diablo series was the Black Road! It was amazing. This book kind of dissapointed me a little. I was expecting more. However I did LOVEEEEE when Cain dreamed about Tristram. I wish someone could right about about Diablo 1 and everything that happened in Tristram. I know the game tells the story but that game is so DARK and the Lore could be taken to a whole other level!
As I read the book did keep getting better!

Bridges the timeline between Diablo II and Diablo III quite nicely. Although the story can drag on at points, I still highly recommend it for anyone I interested in a quick background on Decard Cain.

Its also a MUST read for anyone playing Blizzards Diablo III, lore junkie or not.

Solid writing and good plot. Dovetails well with the game without giving anything significant away in the game plot.
I was somewhat frustrated with pacing, but it wasn't as huge deal. Still made for a good read.

I didn't play the video game, but I am currently reading the book now, halfway through and I'm enjoying it so far. The Diablo novels are my favourite, and I'm not a gamer.

Not bad at all...based on the video game...filled with lots of evil description of demons and the valiant battle against them...its a pretty straight forward book though...

Probably the most relevant Diablo book to the actual story of the games. This book shows what was occurring in Sanctuary in the twenty years between Diablo 2 and 3.

What really struck me the most is how much I didn't know about Cain before I read this book. From the games, you only get a sense of who Cain is. He's an old, wise Horadrim who knows a lot about the Burning Hells and the High Heavens.

The Order goes quite a bit into his childhood, his life before becoming a Horadrim, and his adventures...more

Good look at how Deckard Cain and Leah met, and a bit of a sneak peak into the main plot of Diablo III. Although after reading it, I do find it kind of odd that Deckard Cain never guessed the exact nature of Leah's power.
