When I came home from school, my mother was reading this on the couch.
I anounce my return and head for my room, my mom calls me so I turn around to look at her.
"I LOVE YOU SWEET HEART"
that was just odd in a non-flatering way
she giggles in my response, which makes the hair on my arms to stand up.
Whats gotten into her?
Is she sick? Did she just lose it while I was at school?

Strike one: I REALLY don't like seeing the authors' faces on the covers of their books. For some reason it seems completely feigned.
Strike two: She's got some connection to the chicken soup for the soul books which I despise. AND
Strike three: She likes the book "The Secret" - a book that's full of...malarkey.
Anyway, I bought it because she has some great insights into ...more
As hard as it is to believe, I was suffering from severe depression. No, it was not your typical "teenage blues". It wasn't just a "phase" instigated by hormones and other bullshit that adults tried to drill into my head...I just felt like my life was lacking meaning and purpose, and well...who doesn't want to be ultimately happy?

I've just skimmed the beginning, but so far this lady REALLY wants you to know that she was a contributor to Chicken Soup for the Women's Soul and that she had something to do with the book The Secret. Oy... not a good way to build credibility with me. At least it's a library book. But, it got such good reviews that I'll give it a little longer.
"Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out" by Marci Shimoff is one of the better self-help books that I’ve read (although, I’ll confess, I really haven’t read that many). She’s down to earth, funny, and self-deprecating. She even uses cartoons...Click here to continue ...more
I am not up to date on my book list, but I wanted to take a moment to recommend this book. I really enjoyed focusing more on happiness. I think the author is right in that we can become happier just by studying the topic. I am looking forward to doing some of the exercises on her website. I have incorporated some of her ideas in my life already, and I think it is changing me for the better. I lov ...more
I am continuously incorporating the various techniques and even researching some that I see work better for me than others to ensure that those are truly part of my everyday rituals so that like the Happy 100, I am Happy for No Reason.
