How does a respectable, middle-aged rancher tell his kids that he's gay?

Gil Strickland is not only telling his teenagers that they'll be moving in with him full-time, but also that his best friend Morgan is also his lover. Too frightened to get right to the point, Gil and Morgan agree to sleep in separate rooms till the deed is done. On the night of Gil's official coming o...more

This holiday offering was read by me on a warm March day, which detracted not a bit from how much I liked it. There is a sadness to part of it, as Gil struggles to balance his love for Morgan, his best friend, partner and lover, with his about to move in teenaged children accepting that he is gay and that Morgan isn’t just his buddy.

To try to do this, however, Gil first asks Morgan to sleep in the guest room instead of their room until he tells the kids. Morg...more

I admit that when the story starts I feel like being thrown into an already developed story without knowing anything. But as the story goes, more background story is being told, and it is nice to know about an established couple. I like to read a mature character. It is engaging to read about the 'talk' between Gil and his teenager kids.

Enjoyable little Christmas tale, definitely liked the characters (mmmm, cowboys)...but would have enjoyed them more in a full length novel. This just felt too much like an outtake or something rather than a stand alone short story.

I sure hope this is a prequel. Felt like one with all the set up around the rest of the family--great characters--hope we'll get to read more about them.

It was what you would expect for such a short story....it's wraps up quickly and none of the characters are 3-dimensional. Not bad but certainly not great.

Good short holiday m/m romance about a divorced rancher who has his very first boyfriend and is nervous about coming out to his kids.

A nice holiday story, Gil and Morgan are friends and lovers, Gil has the difficult task of informing his children that he is gay and Morgan is his partner. Lovely ranch life, sweet kids and a good feel about it all. Packed into a too short story, this romance would have definitely made a great novel.
