There are few books that touch your heart with some deep emotion, Lacrimosa is one of them. The book makes you feel the battle within yourself that question what is right and wrong.

Nessy was strong and brave but vulnerable to emotion and love. She was supposed to hate Ayden but she can’t deny she was in love with the same person in another lifetime. Throughout the book we saw her struggles to find a way against all odds. I felt very connected to her, her confusion, love and pain. Torn between love and duty, every step she takes can change fate of earth and her one wrong decision can out innocents in grave danger.
The narration switches between Nessy and Ayden, so the readers get to know both of their versions of story. As the story progressed there past slowly unraveled, bringing their destiny together.
Ayden was irresistible in his angelic appearance and devilish in nature. He was incarnated into an unholy when he chose to be a fallen. He was solar eclipse, who may have submitted himself to darkness, but never let it overshadowed him completely. He set up an example how love can be a beautiful strength to change someone upside down.

This novel is a refreshing new take on good vs. evil and how choices play out against destiny. Beautifully written and lyrical Lacrimosa is a heart wrenching tale that brought tears in your eyes. A romantic fantasy focusing on the endless war between angels and devils, that will keep you breathless until its final pages.

Every once in a while, a book comes along and you are just floored. You are left without words. You're not sure where your emotions are. You have to sit and think, and think and think some more because it's too hard to formulate exactly how it made you feel; you are THAT blown away.
THIS is that book. If I can just say it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me want to throw things, it made me sigh. The roller coaster of emotions brought on by this book was nothing less than spectacular. I am speechless, which really does not happen to me, and my ability to form a coherent thought about where to even start is really throwing me for a loop!
Nesy is an angle, a Sentinal, a warrior. She is sent to earth to ensure humanity is protected. She is sent to earth to vanquish the UnHoly. She doesn't waiver, she doesn't have emotion. She does her job and then advances to her next assignment. But, when she is sent to vanquish Ayden to the Abyss, all this changes. She is overcome with emotions as she slowly realizes that she and Ayden are connected from a prior lifetime. And with this information in her hands, her job becomes much more complicated than she ever thought possible.
First off, Fonseca is POETIC if nothing else with her descriptive abilities. The language of this book is amazing. The way Fonseca is able to wrap your head around the emotions of the characters is unbelievable. You feel every bit of pain, love, and fear that these characters are experiencing. It hits right at the core of your being, without fail, every single time. And the most amazing thing about it is that it is totally consistent from the beginning of the book through the end. I have not read many books that were able to do this. And the fact that she can do this while the book is being told from two different points of view shows that she truly knows how to write fiction. Usually, I am confused by which character is which in such novels. It takes me quite a few chapters to sort out each character's personality. Not with this book. I knew from the very beginning that Nesy and Ayden are two totally different characters and I was able to keep that separation throughout the book.
The characters are so well thought out. You can see their centuries old, despite the fact that they are teenagers. So, while this book is definitely billed as a Young Adult novel, I would say there is nothing young about it in the least. And this is not a bad observation. On the contrary, this is a tribute to how well Fonseca writes and how well she is able to pull her audience in. This is a tribute to how a book can take you on a ride that you never thought possible, no matter your age. And to watch their growth is amazing. You see each character go through changes that change their point of view. Even the ancillary characters are noted to change, and the focus is not even on them!!!
The book takes many twists and turns. Things you would not see coming. Things you were hoping would not happen but they do because without them happening, there is no story; you would be left with a bland, flat novel that has no substance at all. Fonseca uses that emotional roller coaster to keep you interested. There are also things that you want to happen, and you know they can't, but you are surprised. I love that. You think the characters have no way out of their pain, and Fonseca flips the story so that you cry, or sigh, or scream, or blubber. That is the mark of an excellent book. That is the mark of an author who is so into her writing, she knows exactly where she will take the reader and where she herself wants to go.
In the end, you are left with questions, yes, but you are also forced to rethink love. You question what it is, and whether or not it can stand the test of time, and the test of emotion.
This, my friends is a love story, filled with action. This is a romance which twists and turns and keeps you wanting to come back. I could not put this book down. I read it in one day, with work, and kids activities and everything!
Lacrimosa is by far one of my favorite books of 2012. I highly recommend it. If you put no other new release on your list this year, you must add this book, because I promise, you WILL NOT be disappointed.(less)

Okay I seriously hate to start a review like this but OMG!!! Seriously this book blew me away!! I was amazed at the amount of emotion there was and yet it didn't take away from the story. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been one of the first people to get to read this novel. It blew me away and completely changed the way I think about angels and demons. This novel is for anyone who loves rich story telling that engages the reader on a deep level and keeps them coming back for more. LOVED it!

Not sure what to write about this book, but how much I loved it!! This is a story of redemption, and love, and sacrifices. Most of it is sad. Some of it is happy. And a little bit is tearful. This book drags you in from the first page, and doesn't let you go until the last page. I love Nesy and her fellow angels, and Aydan, but not his followers. I cannot wait for the second book to come out!

Knowing what she must do, Nesy has only 3 days to end Aydan and protect the world from his evil, but what happens when your task is shadowed by the love you felt so long ago. Even with help along the way, Aydan is still the love of her life, and she must make the hardest decision. Aydan has had centuries to think of his consequences and his actions and even though he was once an warrior destined for greatness his time as an Unholy has pushed everyone he ever cared about, the moment Nesy came back he knew what he was and accepted his fate. The decision to end a life who has taken so many souls may seem easy because of what he or she had done, but what if they showed mercy, would you be able to end the life of the one you love.

The story of Lacrimosa is about sacrifice and how much of your self your willing to lay on the table. Being able to see through both eyes, you the reader was able to see that love was the biggest sacrifice and how much that love can impact all around you. Christine was able to lead us to the forbidden that was an angel in love with a human and turn it around to the angel falling right back in love the good that surrounded the evil. Aydan had me at times going wow he really is seeing the world differently and fighting his nature, while Nesy just fought for what she believed has changed that love really can change ones way of life. The future of course is unknown and with an ending like this I hope Aydan will be able to see the good in him and see that his future is what he shapes it.(less)

Aydan is the "UnHoly" who is soon to be Azzaziel's equal if Azza has his way. Nesy is the Sentinel sent by Mikayel to kill him. Somewhere along the way, emotions come into play. Emotions that Sentinels aren't supposed to have. WHAT!?

I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. I enjoyed it…it was a quick, fun read, but I wasn’t wowwed (is that a word? – Wowwed?). I honestly find myself with very conflicting emotions as to what to write in my review and how to rate the book.. I settled for three stars though for the following reasons -

First and foremost, what compelled me most to read Lacrimosa was that very intriguing and compelling blurb. I know that the concept of angels and such in books is old news but Ms. Fonseca's Lacrimosa presents a story very different [at least to me] from all the angel books I've read so far. Having said that, I'd say I liked reading the whole thing. But see, the keyword there is "liked" - not loved as to how I would usually refer to books I, well, love.
It was a really good book though that I still found myself pulled into the world Ms. Fonseca created. With its unique plot and characters that are undoubtedly well written. Not to mention, it was very much filled with so much passion and emotion.

Secondly, it bothered me that there was so much conflicted emotions especially in the main characters. I do get that it's a torment to choose between the one you love and your duty. But it just felt like the whole thing was circling around the decision the characters can't seem to make. And in Nesy's case, it was like one moment she's duty bound to do whatever it takes and then in the next second, she was like nothing exists but the devouring love she has for Aydan. It seemed like half of the book revolved around Nesy's decision whether or not she'd kill Aydan. And that didn't leave much for anything else.
I adored Nesy's character though. She's very stubborn and determined. And no matter how conflicted her emotions may seem, she still comes across as one tough, kick-ass heroine.

Lastly, I found the pacing quite fast paced. It wasn't really a problem but I think some parts of the story would have been nice to be told more vividly and in greater detail.. And I would have loved to have seen more of the past.

Lacrimosa is a good book and I would recommend it to all the YA paranormal romance lovers out there. (less)

After reading Dies Irae, I knew I wanted to read Lacrimosa. The dual POV between Aydan and Nesy was done perfectly. Their dynamic and the way their feelings come into play in direct conflict with what they are supposed to do is only enhanced by being able to see each character's perspective. Full of thrill, suspense and romance. This is the type of novel that grabs you and holds you tight!

We're introduced to Nesy, a Sentinal which means an angelic warrior who fights the Unholy monsters that feed on the souls of humanity.
We also meet Ayden, an Unholy that Nesy is hunting at the beginning of the book. The encounter sparks what happens to the rest of the book!

A good teen read!

Lacrimosa juxtaposes the povs of Ayden and Nessy. Ayden is an UnHoly led by Azza (the numero uno fallen angel). Nessy is a Sentinel, fighting the UnHoly. As the story develops, the reader discovers that these two have a past (love of your life), and they thought that each other was no longer in the world. So, for centuries they recreated themselves to fit into the roles of UnHoly and Sentinel. Just as they are ready to move on with these roles, they discover one another.

This book was pretty good over all. It had some flaws though. I really enjoyed how the author showed the point of view of both characters but i couldn't decide if I liked the main characters or not. I mean don't get me wrong, I tried to, but their emotions were just all over the place!! Ok, they were in love in the past, but Nesy was completely blinded by it. the characters, the plot, the story are very good.

the idea of the multiple narration is great and suits the idea of the novel.however, i would prefer using the past tense instead of the present narration.

How would you feel, how would you move on...find the will to just get out of bed every morning, to do what must be done. Nesy is being asked to do this very act in the story and the courage and strength she shows really moved me. It also makes me think about what would you do if you lost your love, to death and then found them again. This is something anyone who has lost a loved one dreams of happening, myself included. What if you get them back only to know you are going to loose them again. You want so desperately to just keep them and have a future, but circumstance won't allow it. What would you do to make sure your love is safe? Would you sacrifice yourself, compromise everything you are? This is what Aydan is facing. The book also deals with vengeance and the price we must pay to to satisfy that need and is it worth it in the end. So many wonderful, thoughtful ideas and questions are brought up by this story. It is a battle of good and evil in the world and inside ourselves and through it all is a love that will not die that you so desperately want to see saved, but is almost lost. Like I said the story just broke my heart at time and make me ache for them. I can't wait to read what happens next. I feel that I should mention that I received this book from the author. I had won the second book in a giveaway and she asked if I would like the first one as well. This however did not affect my rating or influence my review.(less)

Thought I was going to be disappointed with this book as it didn't start of very strongly. It confused me a lot at the beginning and I had to keep checking back making sure I was on the right track. After the first couple of chapters though I ended up really enjoying it. I think I was having a simple day and just about everything confused me. This book is a twist on the usual Lucifer falls from heaven and Michael's the only one who can defeat him, which could have gone very, very badly. This how...more
