Confident almost to the point of arrogance, Jurgen never worried about his boyfriend leaving him until he overheard Nik telling his best friend he wants to move out of town. That's when the macho cop realizes that maybe asking Nik to move back to tiny Whitetail Rock—where he was tormented when he was younger for being gay and looking different—wasn't Jurgen's most brillian...more

Ok. So here's a solid three-star review of story that made me want to find the nicest little old lady in the Bronx, secure her to a chair, and slowly and methodically strip her of all human dignity until she lost the will to live and begged for me to end her suffering and give her the gift of sweet oblivion.

At this point I will refuse to put my chosen implement of torture away, instead raising it higher so that it is fully illuminated by the interrogation lamp swinging ominously above us, pausi...more

Hot and steamy 4.5 star short read from Anne Tenino, and another freebie on her website

A short and sweet follow-up to 'Whitetail Rock' featuring that hot cop Jurgen and Nik.

Another short and sweet review - another winner, and another keeper.

The Fix by Anne Tenino is a free short story (at 9000 words) that offers a look at the ongoing relationship of Nik and Jurgen from the author’s free novella (at 26,600 words) Whitetail Rock. With this kind of generosity on the author’s part (in that the stories are free), combined with the quality of the writing, and the appeal of the quirky opposites-attract characters, you owe it to yourself to check out the Whitetail series. The Fix is set after the events of Whitetail Rock, but you receive e...more

This was one of those stories that as you start to read it you just groan because its the sequel and you know the characters so you know when one is doing something that's going to get him into deep do-do with the other one. The bright side is that in this story we get both Jurgen and Nik's perspectives.
I love the very obvious differences in their voices when it swaps between them.

Jurgen and Nik have been together about a year. Jurgen should be finding this permanency with Nik something to be ha...more

When I saw Anne Tenino had released a sequel to Whitetail Rock, I was beside myself. Nik and Jurgen are back! I was actually giddy – me, a definitely non-giddy-type person. I love Nik and Jurgen. They are one of the best fiction couples I have ever read. Their chemistry is off-the-chart and they balance each other to perfection. So, if they’re so perfect together, what could happen for a sequel? Now, I begin to fret…

The Positives:

-Jurgen POV!! *_*
-Sex. Involving Jurgen. Who is (view spoiler)[HOT. LIKE. FIYAH (hide spoiler)].
-Nik and Jurgen are super adorable together.
-HELLLLLLLLLLO COVER... *fans self*
-Again... it's FREE.

The Negatives:

-Jurgen may be Nik's "big, dumb asshole," but I honestly don't buy that he would be enough of an airhead (or meathead, as Nik would say) to believe that this scheme involving Miller was at all appropriate. I bought the insecurity piece of it - relationships do call for vuln...more

Eh, I think I just dislike Nik too much to enjoy this series. Annoying, immature, shall I go on? Jurgen was cute in this one, but still they both handle conflict so poorly this just does not seem like a healthy relationship that can persevere through difficult times (view spoiler)[even at the end, Nik agreed to buy a freaken house to make Jurgen happy... NOT a good reason! (hide spoiler)].

And I guess, seeing as I had to move across the country with my husband because it was so difficult for him...more

My Review:
I loved this novella. Jurgen and Nik are in a committed relationship. In fact, Nik has moved back home to Whitetail Rock to move in with Jurgen, but Jurgen overhears Nik on the phone with Sam. Nik is telling Sam that he regrets the move back to his hometown, so Jurgen takes it upon himself to fix the situation.

The book switches back and forth between Jurgen and Nik's POV and I loved that. Poor Jurgen is in a panic over the fact that he thinks Nik is leaving him. I loved how much he's c...more

I really enjoyed the characters and glad that the author wrote this second book. Even better would be to combine this and Whitetail Rock then expand the story into a full length novel. It will help bridge the gap between these stories and Too Stupid to Live. There are so many things mentioned in Too Stupid to Live about Jurgen and Nik that I would like to see explained in a novel about these two like (view spoiler)[how they picked the house, moving in, the pole in the bedroom (hide spoiler)]

This is a sequel to the excellent Whitetail Rock. Jurgen is feeling a little insecure since he heard Nik confide in Sam that he wished he'd never moved back to Whitetail Rock. So he plans to fix the problem starting with some of the bullies that tormented Nik when he was growing up.

I loved this story. Great to get Jurgen's POV for a change. God Jurgen is SO SEXY! And so dumb! lol. Lucky Nikky understands him. I re-read Whitetail Rock before reading this freebie and it really added to my enjoymen...more

Thanks to Anne Tenino for a free download! This is the second short story in the Whitetail Rock series (also free). I actually enjoyed this one even more than the first short. I think it's because we see more of the cute romantic side of Jurgen as he struggles to "fix" the problems he sees in his relationship with Nik. Big, strong, confident, Alpha male showing a little insecurity? It's quite endearing. I also appreciated that this story was fairly well developed despite the fact that it was sho...more

I love these boys... all of them. My only complaint, if any is that I want more of Nik and Jurgen. Two little novellas just wasn't enough. *sigh*

The Fix gave us a whole new look at Jurgen. Even Nik was surprised to see this side of him. The characters are the definite draw in these books. I love their personalities and their inner dialogue is just as much fun as their conversations with each other. I've pretty much decided that if Anne Tenino writes it, I will read it. ;)

I like these characters but I feel like I'm missing huge parts of their personalities with these little stories. I don't know who Jurgen is without Nik and Nik is seemingly a more strongly written character. However, both lack a lot of development. Jurgen gets scared that Nik will leave him and does an almighty horrible thing. To be honest it made me like him a lot less.

In retrospect I enjoy the character as slimly developed as they are. The storytelling is what is letting them down.
Fangtasia
Just as good as the first, maybe even better. The characters are enough to hook the reader, so unique and defined it's impossible not to love them. Then you get the story, which is sweet and sad and funny, all at the same time. The town itself is a character, the people in it part of the background that shapes the story and the characters.

And the sex between these guys is nothing short of exceptional. Just like with the first story, my only complaint is I want MORE!!!
Adara
I liked re-visiting the characters, but I think I actually feel less... kindly toward Jurgen for being the guy who goes out of his way to dig up someone else's past "demons." I just didn't buy his belief that his actions would or could actually "fix" things. I expected better of him, I suppose, because I know full well that there are people who think like that. I guess overall my problem was that I just didn't buy into that motivation the way I was supposed to.

My Thoughts:
Better than the first story in the series, but it wasn't enough to make me rate it higher.

I liked how we got Jurgen's point of view, but I thought his plan was too mean, and I didn't see how it was going to fix Nik's problem.

First off, the title was kinda misleading. If I haven't known beforehand that Jurgen's a cob, I would think he's a plumber or something. lol

Could this couple be even more adorable?

It just hit my buttons that Jurgen and Nik were so in love and Jurgen would do anything -including silly and out-of-line stuffs- in order to make Nik love and stay with him. They're so sweet together that I feel all gooey inside.

Wish there'd be more of this series. :'(

I have not read the book before this one. I knew nothing of the characters. I adored this little story. The love and vulnerability of Jurgen was so real and tender. His wrong way of showing his love so right for his character as wrong as it was for his humanity. Nik showed maturity and awareness of his love of Jurgen. I will read the first book. These characters were just so beautiful in their emotions and acceptance of each other.

After reading this I just wanted to go... Awwww, isn't Jurgen cute. So typically male. Not wanting to talk to Nik about what he had heard, then trying to "fix" it. I like these two together, Jurgen because he is sweeter than I expected, and because it seems like Nik understands Jurgen and his "inner troglodyte". They are a good match for each other. Recommended, and thanks for another peak into what is happening with these two great guys.

This is a nice complement to Whitetail Rock (Whitetail Rock, #1) also free here on GR or All Romance. Jurgen and Nik have settled in Whitetail Rock and Jurgen overhears Nik venting and thinks Nik wants to leave him so he sets out to fix things in his own way.

I love this series - will definitely be reading more from this author.

Another fun installment in the lives of Nik and Jurgen.
Jurgen is worried that Nik wants to leave him (proving that eavesdroppers always hear no good things) and sets about proving his love to Nik - watch the train wreck coming!!
Nik is still snarky but Jurgen came over as more big dumb blond in this one than he did in Whitetail Rock, which I wasn't so keen on. However, real enjoyable short read.

I liked getting to see more of Jurgen and Nik, but wish that the story had been longer. It had a few issues where characters didn't communicate with each other which I'm not always a big fan of. I really felt for Miller in this book and hope that Tenino writes his story soon.

This is a great follow-up. I really liked this because it showed Jurgen's point of view instead of just Nik's. It showed that he actually had a sensitive side... something that was not shown (at ALL) in the first story. I didn't like him too much in the first one so it was good to see a different side of him in this one.

Great story. It was good to see more of Nik and Jurgen.

Not a bad short story, but it really lacked the dramatic tension and romance of Anne Tenino's other works.

The story of the fight between Jurgen and Nik was not poorly done - I actually liked the switching perspectives and thought it was believably told. But it didn't have much intensity for me in the relations - although the boys sure seemed to enjoy themselves.

I didn't like this as much as Whitetail Rock, but I really enjoyed getting to know Jurgen a little more. In the first short-story, we saw things from Nik's POV and never from Jurgen's; we get that here that's what I found the most interesting about this story. This is not a stand alone though, you'll enjoy it only if you've read Whitetail Rock first.

Cute continuation of Nik and Jurgen's Whitetail Rock story. While it wasn't nearly as long or as good as as the original, it was still fun to find out what came next for these 2 very likeable characters. I didn't like the actual storyline as much as I'd hoped, but the characters and their exchanges did not fail to disappoint. Definitely worth reading.

This is a cute follow-up story for Nik and Jurgen of Whitetail Rock fame. Nik has returned to Whitetail Rock and is now living with Jurgen. Jurgen thinks that Nik is going to live him because he overhears a phone conversation. He decided he's going to "fix" things. Uh-huh. That usually works.

Sweet and funny - that's what these two are.

I love this short story just for this paragraph. "Nik looked at the clock. 03:14. The trouble with living with a cop was that all the clocks in the house were set on twenty-four-hour time. Nik could only be absolutely certain about the exact time between midnight and noon. He wasn’t really a morning person, so he never seemed to know the time during his waking hours. Figuring out the time between noon and midnight took some semi-mystical formula that Nik never quite got the hang of. Math wasn’t...more

One of those "awww" stories really, this follow up on Nik and Jurgen was too sweet. And who would have thought that love would turn jurgen into a big dumbass :)
And although it was too short for my liking, it was a good story. You don't get much of it if you haven't read the previous one though, so make sure you grab Whitetail Rock before.

4.5. Ahh this made me so happy! I just can't get enough of these two. *happy sigh* I hope it's not the last story with them the author has planned. Oh and I also want a story for Miller. I want him to get his HEA. And I'm also happy that we're getting Sam's story, cause he definitely deserves a little bit of happiness too.

“I thought you wanted to leave me." Jurgen sounded dazed.

Nik patted his chest. "My poor, big, dumb asshole." He sighed, kissing Jurgen's neck. "Why didn't you just ask me?"

Nik could feel the dumbfounded rising up from Jurgen's skin. "I don't know," he said slowly. "I didn't need to ask you if I knew how to fix it."

"Oh, Jurgen." Nik patted him some more, petting his sternum. "We could probably spend a few years and thousands of dollars in psychologist's fees figuring you out, couldn't we?”
