"We aren't just service dog and master; Tuesday and I are also best friends. Kindred souls. Brothers. Whatever you want to call it. We weren't made for each other, but we turned out to be exactly what the other needed."

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalván never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home f

I highly recommend reading this book. It is a book about HOPE, encouragement and informative, while also being a heart warming story about Tuesday, a golden retriever, and the wounded warrior he saved.

I have PTSD and started reading this book as I was begining the 12 week intense exposure therapy treatment at a VA Medical Center. It provided hope and encouragement for me then as well as now. It also provides hope and encouragement for the loved ones of vets suffering with Post Tramatic Stress Di...more

This book makes it into the top 5 best books I have ever read, & I am an avid reader, never without a book.I am also picky.Until Tuesday enchanted me from the first page. It is the true story of an Army Captain, what inspired him to join the military, and what these recent wars have truly been like, the good and the bad, a brutally honest accounting.
Capt. Montalvan sustained devastating injuries in Iraq , both physical and psychological, returning home a Wounded Warrior and bares his heart an...more

A colleague of mine not only recommended this book, but gave me her copy and asked that I "pay it foreword" when finished reading it. After plowing through the first couple of chapters, I understood why she wanted me to read it. As a veteran myself, I needed to read this story.

Until Tuesday is not a typical memoir or a non-fictional account about a battle weary disabled veteran and his service dog. Until Tuesday is a refreshing and thoroughly honest story of tragedy turned to triumph when fate i...more

Until Tuesday is a book for dog lovers, PTSD sufferers, people with other invisible illnesses and those with a loved one who are currently fighting in a war or have been to war. Luis tells it like it is with brutal honesty and no sugar coating. I cried and laughed and identified with Luis in his struggle in day to day life and the loneliness and the lack of understanding that comes with invisible illness.

Until Tuesday is not a book that leaves you depressed and wishing you had never read it. It...more

A moving story of an American hero and his fight after leaving the US Army. Mr. Montalvan takes the reader from the horrors of battle, to the warm and touching moments when he was paired with his service dog, Tuesday and their bonding that saved them both.
This is an informative book that shows the reader through Mr. Montalvan's true story, the terrors that many of our servicemen and women are suffering with PTSD.
An enlightening, educational and enjoyable read. One cannot help but fall in luve w...more

Just the fact that the book is about a service dog should be enough reason to read it. But the book is about so much more. It explores the bond between a service dog and his partner that even pet owners will never fully understand. It talks about the horrors of war but most importantly the trauma of getting back to normal life after having been in the war zone. PTSD has just recently been accepted as a disability and even then not many people understand it for what it is. Discrimination, misunde...more

I loved this book. It is well written. , a true story of love, loneliness, courage, strength and giving. Most of the books I read are fiction, and when I was reading this one I soon realized this story was in real time. That all of this just happened in the last couple years, and that Luis and tuesday are real, and they work every day to bring awareness to everyone that will listen , about the needs of our service people after war, the need for service animals that can help. It made me realize t...more

Excellent read about a service dog "Tuesday" who came to live with a disabled veteran and how he changed his life for him. As a military brat with a father who spent 30 years in the USAF, I have a sensitive heart for our military. This book explains the process of training of seervice dogs. Tuesday helps the veteran cope with his daily life issues that are difficult because of PTSD. The gratefulness of the veteran does not go unnoticed. Excellent book.

Thank you Army Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan and Tuesday an incredible Golden Retriever for sharing your soul in such a literary gift "Until Tuesday:A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him." As an Air Force and Coast Guard Mom and a Marine Aunt I thought I understood military life and the sacrifices that it has. Also, as one who always had dogs in my home (Labs & Pointer)I thought I understood the unconditional love and bond between humans and dogs. But, wow, "Until Tuesday"...more

I found this book at work yesterday on our bookshelf with ARCs (I work as a bookseller for a major bookstore). I had seen it other places and contemplated picking it up but I have quite a pile of "to-be-read" books already. So, after catching up on all of the television shows I had dvrd this week, I decided to start this book (around 1 am). I finally had to put the book down after about 50 pages because I could barely keep my eyes open and it was nearly 2 am!

What a great book. It is the story o...more

Loved this book!! Such an engaging, insightful story about a soldier terribly scarred by PTSD and his assistance dog. It was very eye opening for me to read this account of soldiers coming home from the front lines with an 'invisible' disability (PTSD).

This story quickly rose into being one of my favorite books. It is a powerful story that everyone needs to be told. There were many subjects that are dear to my heart throughout the book such as: dogs and war veterans.

It was courageous of Mr. Montalvan to tell his story and to have and still continues to go through every day. It was heart-breaking to read the social discrimination that he faced with having his service dog follow him where-ever he goes. There were some happy moments too that bro...more

I love a good book about a dog and “Until Tuesday” by Fmr. Capt. Luis Carlos Montalvan is just that. This autobiography is about Montalvan and his service dog, Tuesday. Tuesday came into Montalvan’s life after his PTSD and other injuries, as a result serving in the Iraq War, became too much for him to handle. Tuesday helps him overcome the challenges these things present Montalvan in his everyday life.

It’s stories like these that remind me what a dog can do for a person and how much God has bles...more

I first saw Until Tuesday at a public library and what drew me to it was the expressive face and smiling eyes of the dog on the cover. I have loved golden retrievers ever since I got one in 2006. Now, I love them even more because of Tuesday. If you are not a dog lover, you will become one, after reading this. This is the kind of book that you cannot put down. It is a story of the triumph of the spirit - man's and dog's. Luis is an excellent storyteller. In the book, he details the highs and low...more

This is a very sweet and touching story of a Iraq veteran and his service dog, Tuesday. And don't worry animal lovers, Tuesday is still alive - I believe he's about five years old today - and still with the author, Luis. This book really opened my eyes to the trauma that soldiers experience during war and how abandoned they are by society, political leaders, and even their families. Luis's story is not told to earn pity, but to help people understand that what you see and hear in the papers or f...more

What an inspiring, heartwrenching, moving, lovable book! I felt so incredibly sorry for Luis, and in turn for all the soldiers who have and are fighting for their countries...the veterans of Iran, Afghanistan and all other places that have ever been at war.

Captain Luis Montalvan retired from 17 years of service in the US army, and he was suffering from physical disabilities, plus PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). After a horror period, where the simple things we take for granted - taking a...more

As an animal lover i went into this book with great expectations and im happy to say Until Tuesday has met them nicely. The book tells the story Iraq war veteran Luis Carlos Montalvan who returns after two duties with both pysical and psychological injuries the worst being post traumatic stree disorder. Luis would slowly fall apart after returning home with the collapse of his marriage and isolation from his family as he struggled to cope. Things looked hopeless for him with an inadequate system...more

Finished this book last night. Beautifully written. The bond between Luis and Tuesday is one of the most beautiful examples of true friendship and unconditional love that I have ever seen. I am giving my pups more love and hugs...trying to be a kinder and more compassionate person... all because of this book. I lost a husband of 36 years to Agent Orange from Vietnam. He was a dog handler and had a best canine friend named Lucky who saved the lives of numerous soldiers. Both are in heaven now and...more

I admit, I was first captivated by the dog's picture, his eyes expressing some deep emotion on the front cover. But it took me a long time to read this book; this was actually the second time I've hired it from the library with the intention of reading it. I wish I hadn't put it off! This was a fantastic true story, and extremely well written. It was obvious that the author had experience with writing, and that the horrific scenes in his memory were still alive with him today

As an owner of several great Goldens, I was pleased to receive this book on my birthday. This is not a Marley-the-dog tale, rather it is an inspiring story of the highest pinnacle of human/canine co-evolution I have ever read. In it,caring humans train a service dog and that dog re-trains a disabled veteran in the joy and purpose of life.

I confess that I never understood post-traumatic-stress-syndrome until I read this book. It is a life lesson on many levels. I highly recommend it.

I am very touched and moved by this book. To be more specific, it is the relationship between Luis & Tuesday that moves me. Though I am a dog lover, I am very much impressed with Tuesday being so sensitive of Luis's emotion. I am also happy to see that Luis doesn't see Tuesday as only a service/therapy dog but his own family which exactly what Tuesday sees Luis.

This book was very inspirational. A personal journey becomes a universal message of rebirth. Luis Carlos Montalvan quickly draws you into the world he faces after two tours of duty in Iraq. Struggling with the effects of PTSD and other physical conditions that inhibit him from moving forward. He finally reaches out for the support he needs through the service dog organization, ECAD. Tuesday, this one-in-million canine companion, brings Luis the hope and support necessary for Luis to gain physica...more

Well, I'm a sucker for any book involving dogs. I saw this on the shelf and couldn't resist the beautiful Golden face! It was also the first book I've read about the Iraq/Afgan wars, and I learned a great deal. It reinforced my belief that we need to support our veterans, no matter how you feel about the war itself. It was so sad to hear the stories of violence, unrest, and crippling injuries, including PTSD. But it is another example of how much of an impact animals can have on our lives. The s...more

Heartwarming and heartbreaking. An Inspiration.
After reading Until Tuesday, I knew I had read a very important and moving non-fiction account of war, heartbreak, healing, and love. If you buy any book to keep and cherish, Until Tuesday should be in your library. If you love dogs, Tuesday will grab you with the cover because of his beauty and later because of his humor and love for Luis. If you love America, Luis will fill your heart with utmost respect and gratitude for his need to help his fell...more

Love it! This is a book that John and I will read together. I am looking forward to reading it a second time...

John and I did read it together. As predicted, my husband enjoyed it as much as I did. I enjoyed reading it the second time. I was way more emotional. All I can say is that dogs are the best friends of men. They prove it time and time again. Luis' love for Tuesday was a great example to me. John and I love our little Dusty, too. We are very grateful for dogs and the important role they...more

This was a fascinating read into a wounded warrior's journey to wholeness with the aid of a Golden Retriever. I admit at times it was hard to stay interested as the writing seemed to wander from topic to topic. Yet I can't say that was detracting to the book as it seemed a part of the territory and proved a bit symbolic (though probably not intentionally) of Montalvan's TBI/injuries. There were, however, lines of exquisite prose and deep thoughts that really touched me deep down. Overall a fasci...more

Until Tuesday is a story about struggle, healing, and triumph. It is the most inspiring book I've read in a decade. It doesn’t just resonate with our veterans but also with average citizens. Yes, it is a wounded warrior’s triumph over alcoholism, agoraphobia, and PTSD, but these struggles plague not just veterans but anyone who suffers in silence. It is a story about a special service dog, Tuesday, who led the way to recovery, and continues to do so every single day.

Each day without Tuesday, Fo...more

A highly decorated seventeen-year veteran returned from his second tour of Iraq with serious physical wounds that ended the career he had trained so hard for and had poured so much of himself into, heart soul and body. But even more crippling was the post traumatic stress disorder that even former Captain Luis Carlos Montalván and those he loved and trusted most didn’t fully understand or accept. Simply coping with a short trip to the corner deli to purchase a sandwich was a journey filled with...more
