"Trust me, if I can see you, I can smite you." - Aurora Lahey

Holy crap, this book was fun. Okay: imagine, if you will, the Black Dagger Brotherhood, only they're teenagers, and they aren't vampires, and they don't have 400 pages each worth of angst-driven back story, and they're written with a Goonies-like combination of charm and goofiness--but instead of bikes and baby fat, they have cars and chiseled abs. Those are the Hex Boys, a crew of six demon-hunters who each have a unique supernatural...more

Seriously hilarious! This book was fabulous and suspenseful. I only wish I was lucky enough to have only guy friends in high school because WOW, that would have made things so much more pleasant. Besides, if those boys were the Hex Boys...WIN! I've a sudden urge to molest some hard rock abs. Then again, don't we all?! YUM!

Action packed. Humorous. And completely awesome!

Aurora Lahey proved to be an excellent hilarious main female lead whom I loved very much. She is strong and brave and fights demons and she also has this indomitable Lahey spirit. What more can a reader want from the main female lead? And she oddly reminded me of Merida from Brave.

I loved all the characters in this book, including the bad ones. Oh and I loved the Hex boys especially. Those guys are simply awesome and of course hilarious.

This book was AWESOME! I so can't wait for the second book in this series. The whole story is about a girl named Aurora Lahey who moves to her old hometown because of an incident (which we don't know at the beginning of the book). Aurora isn't just your average 17 year old girl, she sees demons, demons that for some reason are after her and want to barbeque her on a spit. She soon gets help from the mysterious (and freakin' hawt) demon hunting Hex boys who have some of their own very important s...more

I seriously loved this book :)

Who doesn't love a book with an amazing heroine and a bunch of seriously HOT guys with a variety of different personalities! The characters were all well thought out and described :) and I laughed through out most of this book.

I can not wait for the second book so I can read it :D I'm just sad that i'll have to wait for it :( I advise you all to read this book if you get the chance :D

Extremely hesitant going in. Thought "another self published book, meh". Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing, wonderful cast of characters, interesting plot, but above all- I really enjoyed the main character. She is sooo far from a Mary Sue but didn't burden us with insecurities or unnecessary angst. She's the type of girl you'd befriend in a heartbeat if she wasn't already your hilarious best friend. Some things I didn't like about her: she's impulsive as hell and faints so...more

4½ stars - Aurora Lahey and her family just moved to Gossamer Falls, where she lived as a child, following an incident that happened in the city they just left. Little did her parents know that they were actually moving to a place that was less safe than the city because, not only can Aurora sense and see demons, they’re trying to kill her and seem to be gunning for her even more aggressively in the new town. On top of that, there are six guys, who locals have dubbed the Hex Boys, who are friend...more

This book was absolutely brilliant! It was one of those books that I hadn't really expected much from, having never even heard of it, but by chance happened to stumble upon, saw that it was only .99 cents, and thought "why not?" and let me tell you, it blew my ass away. Holy crap! It was fun, oh-so-sexy, and freaking hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing. I was hooked before I even finished the first chapter, and trust me, that never happens. Loved this book. LOVED this book!!! I devoured it. If #2 was out, I'd be buying it right now. I laughed so much while reading that my mom started making fun of me. I would go into detail about why this book is so awesome, but I'm too much in gush mode. And so I'll end my gushing now.

Its hard enough being the new kid in school, having crazy unmanageable red hair....and having super hot boys live next door, who may or may not have been your elementary sand box mates and who may or may not make your toes curl and your face turn red....let alone being a magnet for foul smelling soul sucking demons. Needless to say, the chance of Aurora Lahey focusing on homework, meeting new friends and settling down may not be in the cards for her probable future.

“Ironic, is it not, that the great Divinicus Nex cowers in fear from that which should be her fated prey? A decidedly diametric circumstance."

What? It's irritating when the monster hunting you has a better vocabulary than your own. Maybe it could do my eulogy?”

It's bad enough getting chased by demons. But demons with exceptional vocabularies? That just burns.

Aurora's been chased by demons, ever since her near-fatal accident. Why do they chase her? She doesn't know. All she knows is that they're...more

First thought when finished: What a witty, clever, well-balanced first effort by A&E Kirk!

What I Loved: OMG I just want to hug the Kirks for including parents, family, and friends into the story! It was beyond fantastic to read a story that included everyone without cutting away Aurora's ability to be a Demon Hunter. I really loved the witty dialogue, the pacing (a little uneven in the middle bu...more

I was happy surprised by this book. It was so funny that it made me squeal and you can almost feel the A&E's personality radiating off the page. Now the actual story of Aurora and the Hex boys (god I love them all) was pretty interesting- a bunch of guys with super powers coupled with Aurora's own ability and secret powers trying to stop demons from killing the divinicus nex. Couple in a purple haired angel protecting Aurora brings in some mystery that didn't really get solved. To top it off...more

Don't you love it when you look at a book with pretty good/great reviews, open it, and realize it is meeting your expectations within the first few chapters? That's what happened for me with this one. But, god, do I love humor. If that's one of the ways to your crinkly paperback heart then this is a great choice for you.

Umm + action, cool powers, the demons (I'm a sucker for killing demons, but after seeing "Angel", who isn't) and sexy boys, plural. Yeah. Many sexy boys, not a lot of annoying a...more

I really, really liked Demons at Deadnight so I'll keep this review brief because you shouldn't waste time reading this review, you should waste spend time reading the actual book.

Okay, so, brief.

This book was funny. It had me laughing out loud from the very start and I completely fell in love with the self-deprecating attitude of the main character. Another great thing was that she was strong. None of this 'oh woe is me' crap that I see (and hate) in so many other female protagonists. Yeah, s...more

You know whenever you read a mediocre ya paranormal, or one with good writing but shitty characters or a lame ass plot and youre soo disappointed so you just keep screaming 'why why why you no good enough - we could have shared something special you spineless klutz!!' at the book ? Till your family stages an intervention and gets you counseling. Hate when that happens. - Point being, most books just fall completely short in some way or the other. Or the authors choose to conform to some of the o...more

I absolutely adored this book. More then once I found myself actually laughing out loud, and for a book to make me giggle and laugh like a fool so people give me strange stares is something hard to come by.

So you have Aurora, shes pretty much your average teen, well except for the fact that she can see demons. She moves back to the town she grew up in with her family, which she loves fiercely. Things a pretty normal until the demons she could only ever see start to attack her. In moves The Hex b...more

Three and a half stars: A fast, furious and funny book with sexy demon hunters!

Aurora and her family have just moved back to her childhood town. She is settling in when out of the blue a demon attacks. She barely manages to escape, only to find herself face to face with the handsome boy next door, and he doesn't exactly provide a warm welcome... Life in her new town is certainly not going to be easy with demons and the boys next door. Her first day of school isn't any better. Once again, she is...more

I started off really liking this book. I was turning pages as fast as possible just to see what blundering mess Aurora would make of herself next.
But then I was really aware of how immature the characters were for their age. Hexy Knights? For 17 year olds? Are you sure you weren't writing from the perspective of a 13 year old? And the names of the demons? I'm fairly certain at 17, this would have felt too young for me.
My like factor of this book plummeted further when Aurora not only made blund...more

I totally devoured this book from start to finish. I didn't want it to end! The fact that it only cost me a dollar amazes me. I was looking for a cheap, mildly interesting read to entertain me on a budget and what I found was a hidden gem. Demon hunters aren't necessarily a new idea by any means, but the execution and the characters made Demons at Deadnight stand out among the multitude of paranormal romances crowding the YA scene.

Something that continues to elude me is authors' abilities to wea...more

Aurora is constantly running from demons. The funny thing is, she can track them all along. She can kill them, but she didn't know it at first. Then she meets her long lost "dwarfs", her childhood friends who were all so very mysterious now and oh so sexy! They face too many battles. I swear, there are lots of fight scenes here.. some even happened so fast that I had to read it again. They eventually find out...more

I loved this book, it was such a fun read without the seriousness of most books these days. Its a nice change from all the dystopian, end of the world, apocolypse genre everyone is writing.
Aurora was very impulsive but such an awesome protagonist and sooo funny. I loved every single character in this book!!! The Hex boys had me howling and swooning. They're dynamics was incredible.

Seriously amazing. Seriously.

Pick up this book. Now. Get it from the library, borrow it from your friends, or buy it. But you seriously must read this book!!!!!!

My least favorite thing was how little of Logan and Jeyden there were in the book, as they were my two favorite. Especially the shocking lack of Logan. Seriously, he gets two-ish scenes all to himself!!!

And I loved how Aurora's little sister loved Matthias because he was Australian as the cute little scenes between them brought on a soft...more

If there was a book to be termed indulgent, this would probably be it. A super special heroine? Check. Who so happens to be good-looking (and a red head with a fiery temper)? Check. Who everyone wants a piece of (in different ways)? Check. A group of swoon worthy guys? Check. A group of swoon worthy guys who all (except one, and seriously, out of a group of six guys, that's pretty good) seem to love the heroine? Check.

Aurora has just moved with her family to a new town. She's less concerned abou...more
