Somnium (Halos #1)
by
Keri Lake (Goodreads Author)
A work assignment in Kittery, Maine should be routine for Allie Lynch; nothing more than to prove herself as a brilliant engineer. Instead she finds herself torn between two men: a gorgeous military guard, Colton Briggs, and her devilishly handsome colleague, Drew Costa. To resist temptation, Allie does the only thing she can: she throws herself into her work.

◆Book Review◆
Somnium by Keri Lake is a very likeable read, but I suggest that this book not to be read by anyone under the age of 18 because of some adult themes.
While reading Somnium, I found that the book started off a bit slow, but I guess that's just because this is the first book in the series and like many other author's Keri had to build the back story. So I sugges...more

I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review.
It was okay, but not great. I got this book from the author to review. What immediately grabbed my attention was the beautifull cover, dark and mysterious. Those two words also describe the story pretty good. There was a bit of that dark feel throughout the whol book and there is much mystery. There where so many mysterious things happening that I wanted to know what was really happening, but the story didn't really drew me in. It was inte...more

Somnium is one of the few books out there that literally grabs you by the wrist and takes you on a wild adventure. Led by an amazing author, you are presented with a book that will surely satisfy any reader. Keri Lake’s eloquent writing style compliments how beautiful this book is and allowed you to actually experience the tension, exhilaration, and inscrutability of the characters. Even the way she introduces characters was simply remarkable.

I want to start by saying I would consider this a little more urban fantasy than paranormal romance. Allie is an environmental engineer who has been sent on assignment to a military base. She only plans to be there for a few short months before heading back to Virginia Beach. Poor Allie! If only she knew how much her life was about to change. As if being plagued by nightmares and having to stay in a town where young women are disappearing without a trace wasn't bad enough, she h...more

From the synopsis I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from the book itself. I kind of thought it was going to be part love triangle part action based book. So when I started reading the book I was a little bit surprised when I found that it started off pretty slow. While books that start slowly tend to get under my skin, I gave this one more of a chance, and it was more a slow start since the author was laying down the fou...more

I received the book off the good reads giveaway. I admit I stared at the book for days before I started it. The cover art is beautifully done, and I was nervous I might not like the book. For me it started out a love hate relationship. In part because I'm the kind of person that typically let's my imagination run wild while I read and this book started out slower then I'm used too. The authors writing style is a little different then I'm used to so it also was a little frustrating at first. How...more
I agree with the above review. A little more urban romance, and would have liked some more answers and maybe a little more development with relationships. However, as said previously it is the first book.
Overall, I thought this was a fantastic read that I didn't really want to put down. Every time I thought there would be a breaking point for me to stop, I would develop another question or curiosity. I truly enjoyed the plot and the mystery of it all. It was a fast paced read with really no dull...more

I'm not that well read in the angel/demon path of the pnr genre--this is only my second foray. And whilst it was a far throw from the first one I read, this one was still enjoyable--in a weird and darkly twisted kind of way. No, it's not scary. Maybe if I try and organise my thoughts, the comment will make more sense--which probably warrants a random rambling alert.

Hea y'all Anne here and with a review for Somnium Halos #1 by Keri Lake, and aren't I glad I got to read this book. Now this book has absolutely no lack of adventure and jaw dropping situations as the MC Allie Lynch is a magnet for all kinds of trouble as well as gorgeous men. Colton the silent strong type watches Allie from afar but is a constant in her times of desperate need! Drew the aroogant ego driven one is all over Allie but for reasons you wouldn't think. Both men have Allie in their s...more
4.5 That is.
Couldn't wait to get this book in the mail from Amazon, but they took 3 - THREE - weeks to get it to me. That's a whole different story, though.
I loved this book from the very beginning. Ms. Lake took her time setting the stage: Dark, rainy, ominous. I knew heavy, bad things lay ahead. While some might complain of this making for a slow start, it hooked me with a capital 'H'. I couldn't wait to find out what happened on the next page. And the next. And the next. By the hirsute cleavage of Queen Victoria! I couldn't even get halfway through the book! Lake's writing style simply drove me up the walls; it was just far too choppy with unnecessary descriptions of mundane events. The protagonist was also getting on my nerves with her constant narration of her raging hormones. I would appreciate the book more if the protagonist was less of a horny bimbo, and more of a professional who doesn't try to hit on every attractive guy she sees.

This book is a paranormal romance where the main character Allie (who I liked because she was in a male-oriented profession and didn't take any crap for it) is torn between two love interests. Both are guys she works with. One is a guard, Colton, and one is her coworker, Drew. Now, by the blurb we're pretty clear we're dealing with angels and demons in this book, and one of the frustrations as a reader is that there's a slow ramp up in the beginning. However once things get going there's good te...more
I won this book on goodreads. I would definitely recommend the book to others. I couldn't stop reading the book. The plot had me trying to piece the puzzle together...why does Allie have these dreams, what are the red specks in the dirt, what type of creature is Cole and Drew...At the completion of the book, some of my questions still remained unanswered. I can't wait for the second book! I love the suspense and mystery surrounding the plot.

A love story with a twist, several twists. I read in small doses at first, not wanting to miss any details, but as the story developed and I came to empathize more with the MC I found myself having a harder and harder time putting it down for things dinner with the family or getting a good nights sleep. It will draw you in, spur your imagination, and awaken your fears.
