Gemma's parents have put enough rules around her relationship with Harrison that she feels like she's living on parole. But she wins one battle—a summer job working for Harrison's step-father. It is the perfect chance to spend the steamy, hot Florida days with her boyfriend. It's also a great distraction from the cellphone hiding in her underwear drawer—her only contact wi ...more

As soon as I finished reading Golden Blood, which is the first book in the Time Spirit Trilogy, I HAD to contact the author and let her know how MUCH I loved it! Melissa Pearl was kind enough to give me the second and third book to read and review, and let me tell you, I had my own squealing moment for that. When I finally had the chance to read Black Blood, I just could NOT put it down! I am always scared of sequels not living up to the awesomeness of the first book, but boy, was it as addictin ...more

Wowza. I finished this book in about 5 hours. In that time, I ignored phone calls, my bladder and the rest of the world. I loved it. 5 stars from this little black duck. If you havent read this series, go and get the first book Golden Blood!

This installment had Gemma dealing with a whole lot of issues, the main one being re-establishing her soul mate Harrison's existence after her parents did the dirty during a time trip. I just knew they were baddies! I loved going on this adventure with Gemma

The 2nd book in the Time Spirit Trilogy, Black Blood, is nothing short of spectacular. Melissa Pearl has out done herself again in this YA adventure. Picking up her theme from Golden Blood she quickly settles you back into the plot as it thickens. Answering the previous cliff hanger she throws you in neck deep with new drama.

Gemma needs to be even stronger then before to fight for the things she desires. The mystery man Gabe has his own shocking revelation and Gemma’s parents find new ways to th

After reading Golden Blood, I bought this book immediately. And I fell in love with it even more than the first (if that was physically possible?). Melissa Pearl is an incredibly story teller who has created such a deep, intense story about Gemma and Harrison and their worrying predicament. Its about love, betrayal and family with such a magical fantasy element that it'll blow you away. I absolutely loved this sequel and as soon as I'd finished it, I immediately bought the third!

I would like to begin the review of this excellent book by advising those who have not read Golden Blood, the first in the trilogy, to go back and read that before you read Black Blood. Gemma Heart is trying to enjoy the summer with her boyfriend Harrison Granger, before her senior year. But memories of the strange man on the beach and his warnings haunt and frighten her. Her parents, still not happy with her choice of boyfriend, are also not exactly making things easy for them.

The discovery of

Like most reviewers, I've found sequels to be the hardest books to review. It's difficult to explain why someone should read the second book in a series (or third), if they haven't read book one (especially when I may be giving aspects of book one away). And it's hard to say what I enjoyed about it, if the reader hasn't checked out the predecessor. Therefore, as I say with each of my sequel reviews read book one, Golden Blood, before reading this review or book.

And note, I HIGHLY recommend this

I got to the bottom of page 229 and read the final three words...To Be Continued...
I threw my head back and screamed a silent NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Its 12.20am, my husband is snoring beside me and my girls have been asleep for hours.
Me, well I've been unavailable for the last 5 hours.

I've had my head firmly and completely stuck in Black Blood and loved every second of it.

Melissa Pearl has written a story that has utterly enraptured me.

I love her characters. There is just something about the way they sp

{my thoughts} - This book picked up a month or so after the last had left off. Gemma and Harrison’s love is ultimately tested in some of the worst possible ways. Gemma meets with Gabe the man that gave her the burner phone in the end of the last book. He says a lot of things that hurt her and make her question her entire existence.

Gemma’s parents make it clear that she can date Harrison while she is in high school but once she graduates it needs to end. Gemma and Harrison’s know this and hope to

When you find a great indie author, it's like discovering buried treasure or a new world. And a new world is exactly what Melissa Pearl delivers in her Time Spirit Trilogy series. Amazingly, the second book in this contemporary YA series is even better than the first; and the first was awesome. Again, Gemma is a wonderfully strong but vulnerable heroine. She has the rare ability to travel through time but is being manipulated by a very nasty set of parents who do their best to separate her from ...more

Melissa Pearl has done it again with Black Blood, book #2 in the Time Spirit Trilogy. I HIGHLY recommend if you have yet to read Golden Blood, book #1 in the Time Spirit Trilogy that you do. Melissa Pearl did not disappoint readers with her writing. In Black Blood you learn about Gabe, the mysterious man from the beach. Gemma and Harrison must decide to trust Gabe or not once they hear his story. When Gemma and her family travel to he past she thinks it's a routine jump through time. How far wil ...more

Page Turner... Very Engaging

I was so thankful that I don't read the summary of this book (which in general, I really don't... I want the "surprise me" feeling...) because in this case the story shocks me.... especially the part where Harrison appears to have not existed because of what her parents did in one of their trips... My mind actually shout out NOOOOOO!!!!

Although this is my first time-travel novel, I find the story well written and full of suspense.. I just hope that the synopsis of

Didn't think it could happen but this book was even better then the first! I loved the father/daughter relationship and of course our kick ass hero was back for more laughs and yes even some swooning : ) To be honest I'm a little bit sad that I only have the last book to read and then it's over : ( but this is just the kind of book I will definately be re-reading over and over.

Loved Golden Blood, but Black Blood was even better! The story pulled me in and just wouldn't let go! As soon as I finished I bought Pure Blood so their story wouldn't end.

I would recommend this book to anybody. This was a very good trilogy. It wasn't what I expected, but overall great. Very Good Trilogy!!!

I rarely fly right out and buy sequels unless I loved the first book. But GOLDEN BLOOD's premise was stellar. I had to know what happened and I cared about Gemma Hart, the main character. Her love of Harrison and his for her really spoke to me. BLACK BLOOD is Melissa Pearl's second book in the Time Spirits trilogy.

Gemma Hart belongs to the Harts, a family of time travelers. They gallop through time setting things right. The Harts have provided a stable, loving home and a fairly normal (for time

This is the second book in the Time Spirit series, and it follows close on the heels of the first. Gemma's parents are hell bent on taking away the one thing she loves - her boyfriend, Harrison - and they go to the greatest lengths to do so by erasing him from history.

Little do they know that doing so will only drive her closer to the Gabe, the mysterious man we were introduced to at the end of the first book, Golden Blood.

Once again Melissa Pearl crafts a really quick paced, easy read. This bo

Betrayal by those you love is something that hurts the most. That is what Gemma experiences when her parents intervene in something close to Gemma, because they have her best interests at heart. What Gemma doesn’t realise is that it is all for their own gain. They want their daughter to be solely focussed of them, and their needs of her.

I just love the way that Gemma and Gabe’s relationship forms. There are snippets in there that can be confusing to Gemma, but that are so sentimental to Gabe. Yo

Another great book in the trilogy.

The Blurb:

The second book in Melissa Pearl's trilogy doesn't disappoint as we follow Gemma and Harrison on their journey.

A surprising twist brings the reader to the edge of their seat and hearts to the throat...well, my reaction anyway, as Gemma continues her struggle against her family to keep her relationship with Harrison.

Pearl continues to build her story to a wonderful crescendo, leaving the end hanging so the reader is compelled to go straight out and buy part 3...which is what I'll be doing as soon

Book 2, like the first, GOLDEN BLOOD, leaves you with unanswered questions and wanting more.
BLACK BLOOD distracted me from day to day duties so much, I just had to sit down and finish it so I could get on with my day. It was addictive and I just had to know what was going to happen.

I love Pearl's version of time travel, it's very believable and haven't come across any holes yet. I love the way she leaks information slowly, keeping the tension throughout the story and the very believable emotio

As another reader wrote, rarely does a sequel measure up to its predecessor, but this one does!

A fast and easy read, Black Blood sucked me in from the very beginning, refusing to turn me loose until I had finished the entire thing. Melissa writes in such a way that the reader is pulled right into the story line, running alongside the characters as though involved in the action. We feel their heartbreak and elation as though it is our own emotions.

My daughter got to this one before me and waited

I liked this one just slightly less than the first, but it didn't stop me from immediately downloading the next one in the series. This one was a little more predictable than the last and, as the author is from New Zealand, there was some non-American slang phrases in it that kind of threw me off a bit (but it didn't distract me from the overall feel of the book, so that's good). I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to finish the next one.

I had CPR class today but I kept sneaking in some reading whenever I could because I couldn't put it down. Things are happening in this book and by the time you get to the end, you are a nervous wreck! I feel for Gemma and Harrison and Gabe and I don't want any of them hurt! Their pain was my pain! I did have to take an hour off to make dinner and settle my nerves before I could do anything else!

It's a good thing I have the next book handy!

Rarely does a sequel live up to the first book in a series. But Ms. Pearl has done an amazing thing—given us a sequel that’s even better than the first book. The characters are engaging, and the plot tight and satisfying. The only disappointment I had was reading the last page and knowing I had to wait until spring to find out what happens to Harrison and Gemma next. I highly recommend this new addition to the Time Spirit trilogy.
