Really unlikable hero and heroine. They both deserved each other and both made each other miserable. Both are selfish, spoiled, vain and immature and just plain not nice, either one of them. Really don't see the love between them and can't see them living happily ever after. I can just imagine their selfishness creating the same problems over and over again and each of them making each other miserable and relishing it just like before. Grade: "F" for FAIL and "TW" for TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. This i...more

Michelle Reid is usually a no brainer when it comes to whether to read her books. I particularly love her reunions. This is another in the same vein as The Markonos Bride. They are both very young and meet when Franco and his friends are playing around for the summer. As a result of a bet he sets out to seduce Lexi, a newcomer to the Mediterranean playground. Lexi ends up pregnant and broke and Franco marries her. Almost immediately his friends are trying to destroy the relationship, feeding Fra...more

At the beginning of the story the hero Franco is injured in a crash during a power boat race after learning some devastating truths about his failed marriage. When the heroine Lexi learns about Franco's accident she is devastated and despite all the past animosity between them over their traumatic marriage she agrees to go to him when he asks for her. While she helps Franco convalesce she tries to ignore the still blazing passion between them, but Franco shocks her when he makes it clear he want...more

There aren't enough words to describe how utterly fantastic Michelle Reid's latest novel is. Quite unlike anything she's written before, The Man Who Risked it All tells the story of speedboat racer/architect Franco Tolle and his young, impulsive bride Lexi Hamilton, and a marriage that rapidly self-destructed before either of them knew to save it.

While this novel does deliver a fantastic repertoire of deeply romantic and gut wrenching scenes, it is the deep analysis of Lexi and Franco broken ma...more

Michelle Reid is one of my favorite HP authors. She does angst SO WELL. I really loved the premise of this one -- prior lovers reunited when one of them faces a terrible, near-death event, and in desperate times they show that they'll be there for each other despite their past. It reminded me a bit of the The Salvatore Marriage (Foreign Affairs), which I also really liked. I liked the twist of the hero's physical injuries/weakness in this one. It maybe lost a quarter of a star for me when it got...more

This one really seems to be a love it or hate it book judging by the reviews. I'm in the love it camp. This is a second chance at love book which are generally not my favorites but this one worked for me. Firstly because they were both young when they were together before so I cut them some slack on their stupid actions. Mostly though I loved how the hero knew he'd screwed up the first time around and was determined to get her back and used his accident to get her to stay long enough to listen....more

You know, I was on a pretty good streak with books until I hit this one. At least I got it from the library. Bonus?

I just really didn't like either of the main characters and had a hard time connecting to them.

The main guy was a man-whore, did despicable things and repeatedly punished his girlfriend/then wife for things she didn't do but what he THOUGHT she did.

The poor girl was treated horribly by both him and his family, then left alone to suffer before taking off. So, sympathy my sister. But...more

It was okay. I kept interested and stayed reading it thru one sitting. But I really struggled with the story and most importantly the characters. There really wasn't anything redeeming about any of them. The heroine, the hero, the staff, the father, the friends were all incredibly shallow people. Michelle Reid is one of my favorite authors, but she left me scratching my head on this one. What I find most interesting about her books, is you start out HATING the Hero only to fall madly in love wit...more

Franco is a playboy who is injured when he crashed during a speedboat race. While he's in the hospital, the only person he wants to see is his soon-to-be ex-wife, Lexi. He wants to get back together and he's willing to risk it all to make this happen.

But Franco and Lexi had a brief and terrible marriage. Not only did they behave badly and made mistakes, but there were several people in their lives who wanted to tear them apart. Is it possible to make it work this time, or is this relationship no...more

Strong characters and a compelling well told story. A very good HP!

This fearless playboy has everything to lose . . .

For Franco Tolle, the golden boy of Europe’s jet-set society, life is just a playground – filled with racing speedboats on the azure Mediterranean Sea. When you’re rich and famous money is no object . . . and to hell with the consequences! But he once took a risk with a price bigger than he was willing to pay . . . . The story in this book is pretty ridiculous in typical HP fashion. It's also full of angst and has pretty much every stock HP character in it: the arrogant alphahole hero, the innocent and wrongly accused heroine who is of course a virgin the first time the hero has sex with her, the hate-filled family and friends of the hero and his jealous "wannabe." Ms. Reid's not doing anything new here but she's put the HP elements together in what I feel are a fun, over the top way. And it felt like the au...more

Loved this story!!! I have always been a big Fan of Michelle Reid and I think she has out done herself again! The man who risked it all is a beautiful reunion love story of Lexi Hamilton and Franco Tolle. The story starts with Franco and Marco his childhood friend taking part in a powerboat race where they are involved in a serious accident that leaves Franco injured and Marco dead. Franco is in the hospital and refuses to see anyone but his wife. When her father in law c...more

Michelle Reid writes such passionate stories and The Man Who Risked It All is just that. She does the lost and found love themes so well….like
Marchese's Forgotten Bride, one of my favourite reads.

Lexi Hamilton, a young English actress meets Franco Tolle, the ultimate Italian rich, spoilt playboy and immediately falls under his spell. Things don’t work out too well for both of them….she discovers that he slept with her for a bet….she’s even sent the video via her mobile of him accepting the winn...more

I really liked both Franco & Lexi. They both have such strong personalities but still very vulnerable. It's very clear that the fundamental problem in their relationship is trust & believing the lies of other people. This story would have been SOSOSO much better of it were longer & included the time from when they met to everything after instead of just telling us. It would have been nice to actually be able to read about them initially falling in love. A+

This is not my favorite of Michelle Reid's books, but it's quite good. Unfortunately the heroine is very young (19 when she marries and then 23 when the book begins). Her youth is definitely an important aspect of the novel and explains a lot of the conflict, but I found it a bit off-putting. I did like that she and the hero acknowledged their faults in the marriage and that Lexi had matured somewhat.

Another great read by Michelle - this time of power-boat racer/engineer Franco and his estranged English bride Lexi. When Franco is seriously injured in a power-boat accident that kills his childhood friend he reaches out to Lexi to try and mend their marriage. Steamy and sassy tale and a darn good yarn. Enjoyable

Some thoughts ...

Meh. Should be subtitled: When stupid people don't communicate. Bratty Franco needed his butt paddled (and not in a freaky way) and nagging Lexi needed a muzzle. And while you're at it, get time-out chairs for the both of them. Their constant bickering gave me a headache, literally ...

another HP with a rich and entitled man who treats his wife/mistress/pa/whatever horribly and there is the big misunderstanding and then she takes him back! these HP women were mostly born without spines--an interesting medical phenomenon!

amazing story really i enjoy it
Michelle Reid is one of my favorite authors
This is full of angst, emotion, and above all hope. I really liked it.

Cute story ! I Loved the use of soft toys in it!
And the beginning though sad is one of the best ones I have come across in a HP in a long time!

I really love it when the heroine sticks up to the arrogant know it all hero - took her awhile but she did.

Read this one twice.

And the H won the prize for being the biggest douche-bag. Also to add to the prize, he got the girl without even groveling
JuJu
I wish they would have focused more on how the couple met instead of giving brief and confusing flashbacks

Hi, my name is Michelle Reid and I’ve been writing for Harlequin Mills & Boon for the last twenty years, and the crazy part about it is that I only realised it had been twenty years while updating this page!

So, hang on for a minute while I take this huge milestone in....

Twenty years with almost forty books published or in the pipeline ... I know it isn’t a great average when compared with some...more
