The idea of shapeshifters—beings both human and animal—ignites our imaginations with visions of primal passions and insatiable hungers. Most commonly seen as dark, masculine demons, shapeshifters are in need of a metaphysical overhaul—a new feminine/Sapphic blending of physical power and inescapable desires.

She Shifters re-envisions common and not-so-common myths and deli

Anthologies are a funny old medium; on the one hand, you're getting quite a few different stories for your buck. This collection, for instance, has 16 separate pieces from 15 different authors; that is great value for the ebook price of $10. Nothing overstays its welcome either; on average stories run to only about 17 pages each.

On the other hand, that's not a lot of time to develop characters we genuinely care about, with plot and the apparently obligatory sex. The first story, for instance ("

Beautiful women . . . or so you would think at first glance. Lust filled pages, tender touches, beautiful imagery, are all things that make this anthology a steamy, leave you breathless kind of read.

*Warning* Do NOT read sitting in your car, guaranteed to fog the windows and thus encourage the attention of any passerby to inquire as to the reasoning behind said fogged windows.

Paranormal things are not my favourite. In fact, I'm barely alright with supernatural things - I don't watch ghost movies at all, and don't read ghost stories. But I read She Shifters anyway, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Of course, as with Cleis Press publications, the sex is always of a certain standard. All the stories managed to make the relationship between human and not-quite-human sound real and believable, and weave in feelings and passion even when it's just a quick fuck. In fact, in

So, it's closer to a 3.5. All of the stories are very well written. I didn't enjoy Handler. The narrator was a bit weepy. Her emotions all over the place. No clear favorite. Very quick read, but all stories have a tingle factor that makes you want to slow down. Sweetwater Pass, The Dragon Descending, and Bound With Bronze are definitely worth reading.
This volume seems primarily like a missed opportunity. There's a nice diversity of heroines (ethnic diversity, if not much evidence of bodily diversity) and there's actually only one werewolf story. But these really are pretty slight - and also, especially for a volume themed in this way, pretty vanilla.
