A brief history of direct action, mostly for anti-globalization resistance, from the perspective of the black bloc.

I found this book enlightening in terms of an explanation - in basic, easy-to-understand stories - of the connection between the problems of life today, and various structures of economic, state, and social control.

The author has performed a service in explaining very clearly the reason thousands of people globally are protesting free trade treaties, globalization, income inequality, the usurpation of native lands, and a continually expanding list of complaints that have resulted in the misery

Just stumbled on this one and maybe checked it out cuz it looked like the sort of thing the FBI might flag you for reading, and indeed it was, a fun little romp through the Black Blocs of WTO and G8 and Olympic protests and Occupy Movements of the past 15 years or so. Black blocs are violent protesters who smash windows and fight the cops and stuff -- this book was basically out to say "hey these guys are COOL huh" which was uhhhhh a little simplistic and boring of a message, right? Yes. ...more

Mostly a blow-by-blow of major clashes, such as Seattle '99, G20 in Toronto, Olympics in Vancouver, etc. Would probably be most interesting to someone who was wanting to get pumped and primed for a major action, but of limited use to others. I'm on the fence with black bloc tactics and leaning away from insurrectionary anarchism. Any more hostility toward these two things and I'd say just give the book a pass. Would've been nice to have more of an Homage to Catalonia who-betrayed-who account or ...more

VERY interesting read at a number of levels.

Pretty damned good art.

Interesting overview of where some of the more hard-core anti-globalization protesters are coming from.

It also provides good coverage of some of the behind-the-scenes work that gets done to prepare for such protest actions - fills in a bit of the REST of the story from media coverage of such protests.

Agree or disagree with the politics or tactics, this book will educate you.

Cool perspective on the recent North-American history of radical anti-capitalist resistance. I'm not super aware of the black-bloc/direct-action perspective on anti-capitalism, so I think I learnt a fair bit from this book.

Excellent if you're further left than social democrat, i.e. it's superb! For those who see use for a more direct way of addressing social ills, this is the comic for you. It's not for the faint of heart.
