In this gorgeous 32-page picture book (making it the perfect size for children--ever notice how almost all preschool books are 32 pages long?) Elliott Kaufman transforms everyday scenes into magic by capturing "natural" occurrences of letters in the everyday world. A bridge becomes the letter W, a door handle the letter B, a swirly lamp post the letter J. It's charming and inspiring. Each page has a handful of different photos to represent a letter of the alphabet. Some are easy to see--like the...more

It's an alphabet photo book. Each letter pages (a left and right page) have a total of 5 different photos of things the author found in real life that could make a certain letter of the alphabet.

If a child read this it could help ignite more creativity in him/her. It could help them to see the world in a different way.

This could be used to make the new "ABC" car game. Instead of finding letters on billboards, cars, buildings, etc, this book could help kids realize there are letters all around us...more

This is not your typical alphabet book. Kaufman is a professional architectural photographer who has had his work displayed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and several New York City museums. His photographer's eye picks out letters in the most unusual places, including park benches, farm fields, and even the curl of a vine.

Each double-page spread features a different letter of the alphabet. Some are obvious, others require more scrutiny. And this is what makes this book so captivating. The you...more

Alphabet Everywhere by Elliot Kaufman uses the medium of photography to find the ABC's in everyday life. Kaufman looks in unexpected places to find all the letters of the alphabet, and the results are creative and visually appealing.

My review copy of Alphabet Everywhere was a digital one, so I couldn't take this book to school. Instead, I pulled my 2 year old up on my lap and we looked at the book together. He can identify most of the letters of the alphabet on sight, but sometimes gets confused...more

Alphabet Everywhere by Elliott Kaufman is a picturebook scheduled for release on May 8 2012. This book uses photographs to illustrate the letters of the alphabet. The alphabet images are not always the expected, and some take a little extra time to recognize, but that just make it more interesting. The letters come from nature, construction, shadows, and anything in the world around us. I think it teaches a great lesson that you can find letters, shapes, and wonder everywhere in the world around...more

The alphabet is one of the fundamental parts of education. Without the ABCs one can't learn to read, write or spell and the Alphabet Song is one of the first songs children learn when they go to preschool. It doesn't matter that they don't really know what the letters look like or that they are even singing about letters; they are getting comfortable with the names of the 26 letters of the English alphabet.

Kaufman captures the art of letters in the everyday world. Photos of leaves, water pipes,...more

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I don't get too excited about children's books in general. There are some I like very much and share with my classes year after, and this will definitely be one, but it's rare that I get all fangirly about one. I won this in a giveaway on a book site, thinking that it sounded like one my current class of three-and-a-half year olds would enjoy. They have been fascinated by the alphabet for months now and we keep building on and extending their interest.

When I received the book,...more

I collect alphabet books for use in Room 407 to teach a lesson on Categorization and Classification. I CANNOT WAIT for this one to hit the shelves in May 2012.

Photographer Eliott Kaufman renders each letter in multiple images, some created by the intersection of architecture and light, some by virtue of their shape, and some natural elements that seem to communicate that letter.

The images are crisp and invite younger readers to look for letters in their day to day activities. This one is definit...more

Me and my son who is 3 sat down to read this book that was sent to us via netgalley and honestly was highly disappointed. I was thinking it would be a fun work to work with his alphabet instead it is just a bunch of pictures of random regular items. I might of misunderstood what it was but he lost interest as soon as we started. I continued to look at it and not one word or anything was on there. I would not recommend this to anyone honestly because if it is for the age range my son is they will...more

This book was okay. I really liked the concept--finding letters in everyday things like doors, shadows, and architecture. But the photographs weren't spectacularly beautiful or anything. I guess that wasn't really the point of the book, but still.
I honestly don't have much more to say about this book. In my opinion, it's not worth buying, but if you're interested in it, you can still read it in the bookstore or library when it comes out. (It's really short, so. I 'read' it in five minutes, haha....more

In this book Elliott Kaufman shares some of his great photography with us. He takes us on every day outings and shows us things that we over look. Simple little things that we over look, like a ladder forming an 'A' or a bike rack in the shape of a 'M." Elliott challenges you to take a walk, hike, or ride and look, really look at your surroundings. As an aspiring photographer I will be buying this book to keep on my shelf to remind me to look beyond what I usually see and see what else lies bey...more

This is not your typical alphabet book. It is more of a hybrid, a picture book and coffee table book. Kaufman has found letters all over architecture, some purposeful and some accidental. I like this book because it feels as if the author thinks like I do. He sees beyond what is right is in front of you; that odd thought you wondered if anyone else has seen what you are seeing.

A simple picture book masked as non-fiction, demonstrating the ways that every day objects can illustrate the alaphabet. The representations of the alphabet are intriguing, though the photography is just average. It encourages parents to look for the alphabet with their children-everywhere.

I love the idea of this book, but it really disappointed me. It was only pictures and a brief prompt in the beginning. I think the author could have gone further.

This book is great for kids learning the alphabet and parents who like to take their kids exploring.

I would not buy this for my kid.

The title says it all.

These beautiful photos will get children looking for other places where letters may be hiding. It is not only a fun book for children but for the adults that are looking at it with them.

A clever, creative visual record of shapes and textures that appear like letters of the alphabet. I'm not sure if it's a book for adults or children, I guess it could fascinate both.

ARC from Netgalley / I really love the look of these found alphabets! They included nature as well as architecture shots.
Amanda Long
A great picture representation of the alphabet. Sure to get kids looking for letters in unexpected places.

who woulda thought the letters of the alphabet could be found in some of those locations!?
a great way to get kids looking at the world around them differently. even I would miss half these "letters" as I'm walking down the street.
I think this could become a great game to play with my son while we're out and about.
