I love this book. There is very little stagnant or 'dead air' time in the book. The author did a great job of building the characters without making it feel like your reading their biography. I love seeing how Wyan learns about his heritage and family ties. The fun in watching him learn his element and without giving away parts of the book I can't get into too many details but it's fun to read for anyone. I highly recommend this book for anyone that likes fantasy and manipulating the elements an ...more
I wasn't sure how I felt about this book at first, but the characters definitely grew on me as I kept reading. The world is similar enough to standard that it's easy to accept, but there are differences mentioned that make it new and interesting. The ending went a lot faster than the beginning of the book, both with action and information. I'd definitely read another book about the Mystics and Ry. There are dangling plot points, but they feel more like the possibility of a second story rather th ...more

When I first started reading it I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I put it down for a few days. In that time, I had just started to clean and lost the book altogether. I found it a while later and decided to give it another go. I was really Happy that I did. It turned out to be really good and made me wanting more. It was so good! I can't wait to read the next one!
The only problem with Fire Gate is that I don't have part two to read yet! No laundry, homework, or dishes would be done, no dinners made until the book was completely read, devoured, and loved!

High paced with great attention to detail in creating a world so believable I was there. Seriously loved it!

I'm called Pendragon, both for my writing passion and my drive in martial-arts. I'm a black-belt in Shaolin Kung Fu and Haidong Gumdo--both of which influence my style of writing. To make it short, I love swords, a little too much.

For me, writing non-fantasy doesn't work. I've tried. Every time I sit down to write "a good ol' Earth-based, non-magical story", my hero will turn the corner and up po
