Dr. Melanie Lipton is no stranger to the supernatural. She knows immortals better than they know themselves, right down to their stubborn little genes. So although a handsome rogue immortal seems suspicious to her colleagues, Sebastien Newcombe intrigues Melanie. His history is checkered, his scars are impressive, and his ideas are daring. But it's not his ideas that have ...more

Bastien on a rampage. BEST THING EVER!!!! My favorite scene in this series so far, will probably remain so even after I read the other ones. THE BEST!

Original comments:

I totally enjoyed this installment in the Immortal Guardian series. Bastian is a truly tortured soul. Having lived life for 200 years believing something that was not true, he can do nothing right now and has stopped trying. Melanie is the doctor that has always looked at him and seen good when no one else does.

Yes - he fights the attraction some. But is not too hard to come around. I think his downfall into love was sweet. Usually I do not like when the heroi

The Immortal Guardians is a series that you really need to read in order. Dianne does a little rehashing on key points as refreshers so you’ll easily remember some of the details from the previous two books. Bastien started as in the first book Darkness Dawns a man who thought he was a vampire. He is hell bent on getting revenge against the Immortal’s who he believed killed his sister. He is now within the network of immortals that are fighting the vampires and a new unforeseen foe.

Bastien may
3.5 I liked this story more than I expected to

I liked this book, the heroes were unexpected and I loved the female character (as you may know by now, I love strong, sarcastic characters).

The story was fun and I enjoyed the plot although, true, there was nothing unexpected. Still, it was a fun book to try out :D

Didn’t think I’d like this one as much as I did. I wasn’t necessarily a big fan of Sebastian (he’s the black sheep of the immortal family) and Melanie hasn’t played a big role in the previous books. Having said that, Bastian totally grew on me! Fell in love with both him and Melanie. They’re a great PNR pairing.

In addition to the continuing plot twists in the overall story (again I was completely surprised…hand clapping for Ms. Duvall), I love the dialogue between the characters. Some

Another great book from a great series! I have to say that IMO, Dianne has knocked one out of the park with this series. So far I love the characters, the storylines are interesting and engaging in a way that keeps me wanting more and the quality of the stories has been maintained as the series continues!

Sebastian Newcombe is the black sheep of the Immortal Guardian. Dr. Melanie Lipton contacted him to let him know about Vincent’s mind’s decline to madness, a vampire that is under his wing. They met with Bastien combing and blasting through the network, bloody and creating chaos. As per first meetings, theirs was an unusual one.

The attraction was instant for Melanie, and he sees what everyone doesn’t see in Bastien, compassion and care for others. As for Bastien, he found something in Melanie th

This series just gets better and better! More action, a deeply intricate plot, kickass paranormal powers, fantastically funny banter and a romance between the snarky Immortal and a sassy heroine. What more could we ask for?

We all love it when the asshole falls in love, and Bastien is an asshole. Still battling with the bitterness of his past, he has major trust issues. He is ostracised by the majority of the Immortals due to his shady history and his more recent past as their enemy, and is an an

I have truly enjoy the Immortal Guardian series. Dianne Duvall has created such a fabulous world where Gift Ones, lead by Seth and David, fight to save humans from the evil clutches of vampires and those that would use them as weapons to gain world domination. Each story demonstrates how living hundreds of years could put a slant on how a Gift One would view the world and the job they do to save it, until they find the one person who makes them whole.

Phantom Shadows is the story of Sebastien Newcombe. He is the reforming villain from Darkness Dawns. Bastien fought and even killed an Immortal before he realized he was one. Shunned by nearly every Immortal and mortal in the Guardians compound, Sebastien faces a difficult road and he chooses to face it alone.

Dr. Melanie Lipton is struggling to find a cure for the madness that eventually attacks all vampires. She befriends the vampires in her care and has always been kind to Bastien. Bastien is

Phantom Shadows was packed with ass-kicking action, good doses of romance and by the Gods I laughed with these immortals!
I enjoyed entering into the world of the Immortal Guardians once again but I have to say I was worried to read this one. The stunt pulled in the last book (yes, Ami, that's with you) kind of freak me out, I didn't like it at all and that made me worried about future books, but I read two pages and all my worries were left behind. This is another series that I have loved right from the very start and have eargerly awaited for this installment to be released! I fully appreciate that it takes time for an author to write a book that is of high quality and for it to be published, but I really wish the process was a lot quicker....Yet again I struggled in places with this one as I racked my brain to remember events or characters of the past. I know that at times we often groan about the amount of background informatio

I so enjoy a redemption story and I’ve been hoping to get one for Bastien from the beginning. It didn’t disappoint. In fact, I’m learning that the Immortal Guardians series is pretty much guaranteed to deliver exactly what I am looking for, every time I pick up another installment.

Bastien is almost universally despised by the other Immortals. After all, he was essentially the villain of book 1, but it wasn’t his fault. He truly believed that he was a vampire and that the Immortals were the enemy

Dianne Duvall has done it yet again! Phantom Shadows is my favorite Immortal Guardians book so far. Bastien and Melanie's story was fantastic, their relationship started off slow but gained heat and speed once the story got rolling. Bastien is by far my favorite Immortal of the series, his not so squeaky clean past gave him a depth of character that I found very appealing and his love for Melanie only made me love him more. Melanie was just the right woman for Bastien, she didn't let him get awa ...more

Bastian Newcombe has spent the past two centuries hating the Immortal Guardians. He believed that his pregnant sister was slaughtered, drained of her blood, and his brother-in-law forever changed into a vampire at the hands of a vicious Guardian. Then Bastian too was changed by his brother-in-law, a man he greatly admired, and who he watched descend into madness until he was murdered by the Guardian, Roland Warbrook, the same Guardian who Blaise said was responsible for his sister’s death.

This book is a work of art. There’s so many amazing things that I loved about it that I don’t even know where to start! Let’s go simple and start with our stars. We meet Melanie briefly in book 2, but she really shines in this book. She’s strong and brave for a human, and she’s more than willing to stand up for who and what she believes in. Bastien is the villain from book 1, so naturally he’s not exactly voted most popular with the Network or the Immortals, but we get to know a side of him that ...more

I am so very excited about this book, it is one that has been on my waiting list since I finished Night Reigns (the second book in the Immortal Guardians Series). The problem that so often happens when expectations grow like that is the book falls flat.. WHOOOO EEEEE Can I just say that did so NOT happen. Dianne Duvall has started the snowball rolling in her Immortal Guardian Series and it has hit Avalanche speed!

In Book Three, the Vampire King is dead but now humans have gotten in on the deal.

Uh, yeah. With three chapters left i'm soooo over this book. I loved Bastien and was really looking forward to his story but this is just not what i expected. I wanted more for and from him, and i'm just not a fan of the woman being the aggressor, at least not the whole dang time. =D

Hmmm ... so, I really enjoyed the first two books in this series. If you are looking for the intense, ramped up Black Dagger Brotherhood-esque stories? These are not the droids you're looking for. If you want emotionally damaged men, saved by falling in love with good women, with a minimum of relationship angst? BINGO! You have won the gift card to the Friday night buffet at David's house.

Some of the elements that worked in the first two books got a bit tired by round three. I was hear

This was a great one. I was hoping this one was Sebastian's book. Melanie is such a sweetheart and never the push over she stood tall when she needed to and when Bastian needed her to. I love how the Immortal Guardian's opinion of Bastian didn't change over night he is having to gain their trust one at a time.

This is Sebastian's story, he is the bad boy in the group!
He is a very interesting guy who use to fight the immortal because a big misunderstanding.

I kind of feeling sorry for him and love his 'don't care' attitude but he is so sweet to his very understanding girl:)

Still multi POV, but since the story continuing from the earlier books, all good!:)

4.5 stars -- had a really hard time deciding whether to round up or down. What can I say, I'm loving this series. It sucks me right in, and this book was no exception. I think the only reason I rounded down was because there were a few super tiny things that bothered me in this book....mainly some stuff that happened when Melanie and Bastien first make love. It wasn't anything big or life altering, but just gave me a moment of "really?", if that makes any sense.

Unfortunately, this book was not as enjoyable as the first 2 in the series. The plot, and overarching storyline, were great and continue to expand in really interesting, exciting ways. Where the book fell flat (for me) was in the romance department. The romance between Bastien and Melanie just fell flat; there was no passion. Melanie was definitely the pursuer, which in itself isn't a problem for me, but Bastien just seemed to Almost the entire book, I felt like he liked

Oh yes! One of my favorite vampire series is back! This time we get the story of Bastien. I really wanted this story. I mean it's the most annoying, cynical, obnoxious immortal of the bunch! How could I resist? I know wanting to alternately kick the guy's arse and simultaneously aww at his reluctant romance will get to you as well. Plus, Bastien has probably the biggest soft sides of all of them. He constantly worries about the ones he loves having problems because of their association with him. ...more

Another great book in the Immortal Guardians series!

I am a huge fan of this series and this books just proves me right! I couldn’t wait to read this book because of his main character: Bastien. Oh, god! What a hero he is! But which is the best part? His behavior wasn’t the one I was expecting!

So, the story is about Bastien and Melanie. He is the bad-boy-immortal-guardian that everyone has a problem with because of his past and she is the doctor who works with the guardians and one of the few pe
I was pretty excited about Bastien's book, because I like it when former 'villains' get a shot at redemption, but Phantom Shadows didn't end up being quite what I was hoping for. First of all, despite being the leader of the vampires and a thorn in Roland's side in the first book, in retrospect Bastien really wasn't all that bad. But he is pretty antagonistic to the rest of our immortal warriors which doesn't always add to his appeal here. And initially I was pretty bored with the setup which dr ...more

“I stole some of your lollipops.”
“Really. Well, if you’re in the mood to lick something . . .”
She laughed.
“We can hear you,” Seth called.
“So?” Marcus countered and kissed his wife again.
“So she’s like a daughter to me, jackass.”
“Yeah,” David seconded. “There’s a reason I poured thousands of dollars into soundproofing your bedroom.”
“Hmm.” Marcus sounded thoughtful. “I do believe your family is trying to tell me I should take you to bed.”
“That isn’t what I— oh screw it,” Seth muttered.”
“Étienne sighed. “You may as well drop the formality. One, I’ve heard your thoughts and know your concern for her extends beyond that of a work colleague. And two, I’ve seen your thoughts and keep coming across her naked.”
Richart tried without success to choke back a laugh. “Nothing to say?”
A muscle in Bastien’s cheek jumped. “I’m debating over whether or not I should kick Étienne’s ass for seeing Melanie naked.”
Richart burst into laughter.
“It wasn’t real! It was fantasy!” his brother protested.
“I don’t care. She was naked.”
Melanie felt heat bloom in her cheeks and didn’t know why the hell she should feel embarrassed. It wasn’t as if she really were naked. As Étienne had said, they were talking about fantasies he had seen in Bastien’s head.
How hot was it that Bastien was picturing her naked?
I was naked in his thoughts? she asked, unsure if Étienne was still tuning in.
A lot.
And we were doing . . . ?
Things that would make you blush even more than you are now.
I don’t suppose you could show me, could you?
It doesn’t work that way.
His lips twitched.
Bastien tugged her hand. “I can’t hear what he’s saying to you. Should I kick his ass?”
“As if you could,” Étienne murmured.”
