Everything in Ari’s life until this point has been borrowed.
Her human life with a man who wasn't her real father.
A love for a boy who needed more than her to be strong.
Kisses with a Jinn who refused to do anything but lend them out in moments of weakness.
And even her resolve, which seemed to fail her whenever she needed it most.

But Ari is done borrowing. She finally feels...more

Review of my take on Smokeless Fire, Scorched Skies and Borrowed Ember

Once again I have picked up a book by Samantha Young and was sucked in from page one. I purchased a copy of Smokeless Fire back in Nov of last year because of the beautiful cover art. I decided to wait on reading it until there were a few more books to the series out. With the newest installment Borrowed Ember I finally gave in to the overwhelming urge to start reading the Fire Spirit series. Part of me is glad I waited, I wou...more

I can't say this enough but Samantha Young is a Genius or should I say Jenius.

This book took me through a journey and I actually found myself wishing I was in the book, it takes alot for a book to impress me or make me gush now a days because I have read so many books that there all starting to sound the same but I can actually say " Borrowed ember " is totally unique and has been one of the best reads this year. I love everything about this book, characters, plot and I can't believe I'm saying t...more

Ah, where do I begin? I guess first I want to say that Sam Young is a brilliant writer and everything that I have read by her has been phenomenal. So, now, I am now ALWAYS eager to get my hands on something she has published...
With that said, let me tell you about Borrowed Ember. This is the third book in the Fire Spirits series and WOW!!! From start to finish, you are just blown away at everything that happens in this book. I was so excited when this book came out and being able to pick up with...more

So i remember when i first started reading this series. Conjuring? Seven Jinn Kings? What? Why am i reading this? Then i met Jai (insert swoon here) and somehow he talked me into giving the series a chance. So i finished book 1 and thought my god...I almost didn't read this. What was wrong with me? Borrowed Ember....Samantha Youngs writing is soooo (geesh i can't think of a word) creative...different. And i do love a book with more than one POV and Samantha gives this to us. You get to see the P...more

Review: 4 ½ out of 5 stars

** Review contains possible spoilers from books 1 & 2**

Borrowed Ember is the third book in the Fire Spirits series by Samantha Young and follows on where Scorched Skies left off.

At the beginning of this book we see Ari, Jai and the Red King in Mount Qaf for Charlie’s murder trial which is more or less a non-event thanks to the interference of the White King who has inadvertently pushed Ari more into the spotlig...more

Borrowed Ember felt a little directionless compared to the first two books. A little slow and wandering for the first half of the book. Ari decides she's going to be a hunter of bad guys because that feels better than being hunted herself. Except for we never know that anyone new is actually after her, she's just a person of interest that some *might* use for dubious purposes (which remain undefined). So in that first half, she trains a lot and makes out with Jai a lot and it felt a little point...more

Ok. So I have to start off by saying, I usually enjoy every book I read. I'm not very hard to please. That said, I struggled to like this book. I actually feel ripped off and wished I hadn't bought it.

I can get past writing mistakes, book two had a major flaw that I had a hard time getting past, but I sucked it up and continued reading because I thought hey, she has a great plot going.

And book three actually had a good start, then the more I read I felt like I was reading something written by a...more

This carries much of the same beautifully written prose that I like so much. Her descriptions are different and not cliché. “The winter sun began to play peek-a-boo over the mountains, the emeralds waking up under its playful gaze.”; “Jai rarely laughed and when he did it felt as if she’d dipped her toes into the warmest, most soothing bath ever.”; “. . . and into his body—little spiders of virulent energy aiming for his heart.” Her dynamic verb usage of wink, blink and wringing were clever. First of all, I just want to say...

WOW!!!

Samantha Young has this way of creating worlds that suck you in completely and spit you back out when the book is over. I became so engrossed in the Jinn world that I lost a few hours of sleep, but it was totally worth it!

I read the first book, Smokeless Fire, a while ago and when the second book came out, I completely forgot what the first one was about. So I didn't read it until a few days ago and I am so glad I did! Once I finished Scorched Skies I co...more

I am giving this book 3.5 stars.

I finally finished reading Borrowed Ember and I am so glad it is over. This book was a mix of good and bad. It had me hooked in the beginning and then at the end. The middle was a whole different deal, it was so damn slow, I seriously thought about just dumping it. But I’m kinda glad I didn’t because of the last bit.

While reading the whole Roe family bit, I got the feeling that the whole thing was very similar to the Guild and the Douglas family from her Shades o...more

it is clear why Samantha Young is one of my favorite writers, they way she imagines and describes people, places are so unique and breath taking.

Unaccustomed to reading paranormal novels about the Jinn, these novels have become the foundation from which I will from now on base other Jinn novels on. Why? the world of Jinn's and the different types and levels of evil permeating from each is not only intriguing, bit different for a change.

Young has shown that there is no one good/evil but always a...more

Wow! Each book in the 'Fire Spirits' series has ended with a cliffhanger; but, "Borrowed Ember" ends with a doozie. Ari and Jai have finally come to gripes with their feelings for each other but realize it is best kept secret. They go to one of the guilds where Charlie is being trade by the sorcerer, Jack, while Ari will be trained by Jai and Fallon, a young guild member.

Meanwhile Charlie is beginning to accept that Jai and Ari are becoming closer and he no longer has a chance. As a matter if fa...more

I’ve read almost all of Samantha Young’s books. I’ve noticed that in all of her series, Sam (can I call you Sam?) has this insanely frustrating habit of giving me just enough to whet my appetite, to keep me going. Then I get to the end of the book and I want to throw my Kindle across the room because it’s never enough. I always want to know what happens next RIGHT NOW, not when the next book comes out. This is the main reason why she’s on my auto-buy list and I’ll pretty much read anything she w...more

Oh my god oh my god oh my god!!! This book was awesome!!

First thing I must say it I hate Charlie!!!
This boy has caused so many problems that it is just ridiculous I understand that Ari loves him and everything but damn come on now!!! He is a little coward who just gets everyone hurt and breaks Ari's heart time and time again like she hasn't nothing else going on and then he wants to know why she doesn't love him??? Really!!!

On a good note I love Ari and Jai <3 I am so glad they gave up and de...more

OMG!Samantha Young, you sure caught me well with this series! Amazing!

I am so involved in the Jinn world and in everything that happens in Ari and Jai's lives that I barely think about something else xD Obsessed much xD
So, of course that I loved this book as well. *grins* :D
It was so amazing to see Ari being faced with tough choices and really heartbreaking situations, yet seeing her fighting and carrying on...
I really wish I had her strength! :)

I loved it! 4.5 stars

At the start we immediately left off where we finished at the end of the second book. It held my attention and I never felt the need to set it down for a second. The first book was...lets just say I loved it but didn't like it at the same time... Its very hard to explain. But, I feel that the series got better with every passing book. Yes, I have my complaints about this book but I felt that it gave me more reason to continue. Although I probably wouldn't have stopped even...more

It was AWESOME!

Now i understand why Samantha said this was complicated in writing..i agree with her..writing from many POV's and expressing everyone's emotions is a great deal of work and to add this book has the most revelations, events that are very important to the series and which makes sense to the story. So far the most capturing books of 3..

Ari is working her way with guild with jai and wants to prove herself after being attacked by number of Jinns who want to captivate her for her power......more

**Don't read this review if you haven't read the first two books.**

I'm slightly disappointed in this book. It feels like always the same is happening and it's all moving very slowly. Charlie keeps getting more and more in trouble, he's also still conflicted about his feelings between Ari and Fallon. Plus he's absolutely being selfish and I really don't like the guy.

Ari is having trouble with keeping control over the seal, feeling it keeps growing stronger. Still somehow that isn't really transla...more

Borrowed Ember: As good as the first 2 books in the series and I am dreading reading the fourth as it is all coming to and end and I know that I will miss these books and these characters for a very long time after.

Ari is determined to be a hunter and not the weak prey she has been in the other books. She learns more about herself and what she is capable of, but like everything there is a light and a dark, a good and an evil and her powers are no different.

Having the power of the Seal of Solomon...more

Amazing! You should read this NOW! I can't believe I have to wait for the next book in the series to come out!

The writing is fabulous, the plot is thick and has lots of momentum, and Ari's feelings for Jai are so relatable that I was literally swooning over him. I love the way the characters have developed and enjoy the direction the series has taken.

There were a few foreshadowing moments that made some "plot twists" predictable, but the story still kept me on the edge of my seat with some unexp...more

OMG Samantha Young is killing me!! I was SO busy and for days I longed to read this book but alas, life had other plans for me. I finally got some free time to start reading again and boy was this an amazing book to kick start my reading slump! The suspense throughout this entire book was ridiculous (in a good way) and I had such a hard time putting it down to take care of the smallest things... (kids, puppy, house... etc). I can NOT wait for the next installment! :( Even though I'm THRILLED tha...more

Borrowed Ember (Fire Spirits #3)

I seriously love this series of books. I was hooked with Smokeless Fire and read it in under a day, and when Scorched Skies delved further into the Jinn world I was captivated, but I think Borrowed Ember so far has to be my favorite out of the three. Why? Four reasons with a big, huge, ginormous emphasis on reason number three.

One, I love Mount Qaf and everything to do with the Jinn world and in this book Samantha Young really dives into that world. We learn all about Lilif and a lot of the qu...more

Dear Samantha Young,

I just want to say that for one day, and one day only, I would love to be inside your head. The stories that you come up with are just … beyond fantastic! You really know how to entertain your readers and keep them coming back for more!

If you haven’t picked up a book by Samantha Young, let me tell you, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! I am making my way down a list of all her books and so far NOT ONE has left me disappointed. I am still amazed at how good this author wri...more

THIS SERIES JUST ROCKS!!! This is my favorite so far, though I know the series aint finished yet so I guess........I'll have t wait for the next books to come.

This series just blew my mind away from the beginning. I like the world Ms. Young created in this one, I mean GENIES who would have thought....I mean for me it's new and at the same time the characters are so so so easy to love. The story is fast paced, there were a lot of revelations in this particular book and my dream came true.....Jai...more

“Yeah, I only have three expressions. Blank. Pissed off. And polite boredom.”

Jai, you never bore me at all!! Lol!

Awww so that's why i kept on reading this very slooowly! It's not just because it's a total cliffhanger, it's also because I'm gonna be soooo sad!

Two topics. I have two topics that i want to discuss. Both of them have 2 stars each.

First topic is: sadness.
Yes. Sadness! Sadness in this book is very much related to fear. Because of fear, there is sadness.
Jai's fear, he is scared becau...more

Well written, well rounded book! Plus if you've read the first two you must read this one! Romance + lots of magic + complete Jinn world = great read.

The author has included tons of details about all the different characters, Jinn lore, etc. I absolutely love the titles of the chapters!

Unfortunately for me I totally thought this was the last book in the series, so when I came to about 90% completion I was really freaking out. BUT, the good news is I love Ms. Young's books and I cannot get enough...more

Aww, I actually cried in this one! I'll be the first to admit there were a few things that happen in this one that I just did not see coming which I absolutely love (that doesn't mean I love what happened!)! Of course I love the whole romance(s), as well as the but kicking Jinn action. I can't say I love The White King, in fact I can most definitely say I hate him! As with the first two books intheseries this is more like a 4.5 or maybe even 5. I guess I'll think a bit and see if I feel I should...more

“Jai, she pleaded quietly, if you hadn’t noticed, I’m a guts and glory kind of girl. I think I’d die trying to protect anyone I care about. It’s just the way I’m wired, I guess. I would die trying to protect Charlie because I love him. He’s my family, and I don’t want to lose any more family." She took another step so her body pressed flushed to him, her fingers falling to his lips. The sound of his shallow breathing emboldened her. "But Jai… I would die a hundred deaths to save you… because the thought of being here without you now, the thought of losing you… is unimaginable." Their eyes locked and heat bloomed in her cheeks as Jai pressed closer to her, his hand sliding across her lower back and gently guiding her even more tightly against him. "Jai, you have no idea how much I’ve fallen in love with you. I don’t think a person could fall any harder.” 1 person liked it
