Once again I have picked up a book by Samantha Young and was sucked in from page one. I purchased a copy of Smokeless Fire back in Nov of last year because of the beautiful cover art. I decided to wait on reading it until there were a few more books to the series out. With the newest installment Borrowed Ember I finally gave in to the overwhelming urge to start reading the Fire Spirit series. Part of me is glad I waited, I would of been a basket case waiting on the next installments to the series from book one. Once I started reading Smokeless Fire I couldn't put it down, which I then spent the night reading instead of sleeping, it was that good. Once I was finished reading the first part I moved onto Scorched Skies, devoured it and Borrowed Ember. I absoultely loved all three books, not that I expected not to. I have read several books by Samantha Young and have yet to find one I did not fall in love with. Samantha just has a way with words that drags the reader in and keeps them spellbound.

The characters in the series are well written and I loved some and just hated others. But to me that doesn't make the book bad or annoying, quite the opposite. Without those ones that just makes us want to scream and hit something or have us swooning into a pile of goo, books would be very bland and boring. The author creates characters that are diverse with a wide range of personalities. I loved that all three books were told is several PoV, including Ari, Charlie, Jai and Red. I know some readers hate to more than one or two views but I am not one of them. Sometimes a story needs to be told in several views to tie the story together, to let you see what is going on in their heads. I am all for different PoV's.

I adored Ari and Fallon, they were like night and day but deep down they were sisters. Both had their strengths and weaknesses. Ari, though completely misguided with her believed feelings for Charlie, became more than the love struck girl she used to be in book one. I enjoyed seeing her finally stand up and realize that maybe certain people were not who she thought they were and to no longer give them the power to hurt her anymore. I was totally all girl power at this point. All "You go girl, tell him how it is". I am cheering on the inside even while writing this. By book three Ari is starting to get the confidence and support she needs. One thing I am truly happy to see, especially after all the disappointment and rejection she receives in the first two books. Ari, you are going to rock in the final two installments.

Fallon, hehe, she made me laugh. I don't think I have ever seen a character who was not afraid to tell it how it is. She was an honest match for a certain someone. I was glad Ms. Young moved them in that direction. There needed to be a give in that situation. Fallon's personality had me laughing at times, heck half the time I was thinking, "tell me she did not just say that". I think that was the biggest part of her charm, what draws people to her. Though talking about Fallon makes me sad, insert Kleenex here, she is one of my fav characters in the series.

Charlie, oh man, I hate to say it, but wow I really can't stand you at all. Charlie has suffered in his short life, but in the end I don't feel sorry for him. I just think he needs to stop feeling sorry for himself and learn to deal. I know that sounds heartless but, when he just keeps making the same mistakes over and over again and is so involved with his selfish desires I just can't bring myself to like him at all. I am sure I will get haters on this, but hey it's how I feel. I am sure there is a way he could redeem himself but at this point I am not sure he is even worth saving.

Now onto the swoonage. Jai. Yeah all I need to say is his name. I loved his character. Sure he is not perfect, he never denies it or tries to hide it, but at least he is not willing to hurt Ari when he believes he can't give her what she needs. That point alone won me over to Team Jai. I might not like it, but hey I can understand his point of view. Jai is an alpha male if there ever was one. I loved him to pieces. Not many men would be able to live his life and turn out the way he did. Jai is protective and supportive of Ari, honestly he is everything Charlie isn't. I guess what I am saying is that where Ari and Fallon are night and day so too are Jai and Charlie. Overall I am of course 100% TEAM JAI!

Trey, OMG I loved him. I don't think anyone else could be more perfect. I could hug him to bits. I loved how he looked out for Jai's best interest even when if peed Jai off. He is a true friend and I am totally begging Samantha to not kill him in the next installments. I would be heartbroken. Devastated! I definitely love the thought of him and G together. Here is to preying for a HEA for him. Trey may you continue to be witty and just plain loveable.

Samantha has written a beautiful series. Hard to believe that this series for me started out with Cover Love. All the covers are just so pretty, I could look at them for hours. Trust me, the novel inside more than does the cover justice. I have read a few reviews that complained about Red always saving Ari and Jai and her always being interrupted when they are about to kiss, but I didn't find either complaint valid. Sure Red saves the day, but hey he is an all powerful Jinn, if he can't do it who can? Remember guys, he did contract Jai to look after her, she is someone he would be looking out for at all times. As for Jai and Ari, I never found it frustrating or annoying one bit. I found it added to the tension between them, not to mention it follows with the story line of him not trying to lead her on. Makes sense to me.

I can't say this enough but Samantha Young is a Genius or should I say Jenius.

This book took me through a journey and I actually found myself wishing I was in the book, it takes alot for a book to impress me or make me gush now a days because I have read so many books that there all starting to sound the same but I can actually say " Borrowed ember " is totally unique and has been one of the best reads this year. I love everything about this book,characters,plot and I can't believe I'm saying this but I felt myself loving the villains.
The Villains in the book are actually different from any I ever read they actually have depth and you can actually see that there not really evil it's more complicated than that and you determine who the villain is by choosing a side which to me has been hard to choose especially in this book cause it's hard to see who actually right. It's especially confusing ,because in this book ,Red and White king are both shady characters but they both have a depth that makes them endearing to the reader especially the Red King I was so surprised by his action in this book I felt myself hating him for deceiving Ari but at times you saw a side of him that was sweet and actually cared about Ari but I guess time will tell who's side he's actually in and even the White king had redeeming moments even though in the end he did a really shitty thing (view spoiler)he wasn't as bad as I thought he was but yeah after the book ended I can't say that I'm wishing a happy ending for the White King.

But one thing I'm sure about is that I love Ari and Jai together they make the perfect couple there not sickly sweet and they both have flaws which makes me love them more. I'm really glad Jai confronted his dad in the end and made it known that he loves Ari I think Jai has changed the most out of any character for the good. Don't get me started on Charlie grrr... I hated Charlie from the beginning of the series he's always been a coward and hidden behind his brothers death blaming every action he's done on his brothers death but instead of growing into a better person and trying to do good he became a pot head and a slut and blamed everything on that fateful day. But I guess everyone grieves in a different way but the way Charlie did in wasn't only hurting him he was hurting Ari but i'm glad Ari finally woke up and realized that she was never in love with Charlie and that what she has with Jai is the real thing.
But I found myself hating Charlie even more in this book specially at the end. I kept wishing Samantha would kill Charlie through out the whole book he's so stupid and to me he seems even more evil than the White King or any other villain because at least the White King can't comprehend that what he's doing is wrong but Charlie knows that what he is doing is wrong and he's just a coward who hides behind everyone and in the end I wished it would have been Charlie who died (view spoiler)

I can't say it enough I love this series and can't wait to read the next book. (less)

Ah, where do I begin? I guess first I want to say that Sam Young is a brilliant writer and everything that I have read by her has been phenomenal. So, now, I am now ALWAYS eager to get my hands on something she has published...

So i remember when i first started reading this series. Conjuring? Seven Jinn Kings? What? Why am i reading this? Then i met Jai (insert swoon here) and somehow he talked me into giving the series a chance. So i finished book 1 and thought my god...I almost didn't read this. What was wrong with me? Borrowed Ember....Samantha Youngs writing is soooo (geesh i can't think of a word) creative...different. And i do love a book with more than one POV and Samantha gives this to us. Borrowed Ember....Samantha Youngs writing is soooo (geesh i can't think of a word) creative...different. And i do love a book with more than one POV and Samantha gives this to us. You get to see the POV of Charlie, Jai, Ari, Red....without it being too much. I once read this book called the Dark Inside of Me and it seemed like it had such potential...plus there were about 4 POV's in her book as well, but you weren't able to connect with the characters emotionally due to all her jumping around. Yet with Samantha Young...connecting was not an issue. Without including a spoiler alert i'll just say...the two people we lost in this book absolutely crushed me. I felt as though as much as i loved one of those characters....that person was dumb for putting themselves in the position that they were in...as for the other character....so noble. I can't think of a more noble death. And i do hope Red and Ari mend there relationship in the next book...he is turning out to be quite the father figure and i love their relationship. You also get to see alot of Jai and Ari's relationship...and i think it is blossoming beautifully. Jai's speech to his father at the end was epic. I think i may have accidentally cheered loudly at times. Btw...can we just kill Nicki? I mean do we really need her? Or maybe torture her? I really do hope Ari and Jayi get there happily ever after sometime soon. It seems like there always running...i hope next book Ari and Jai find time to finally give themselves to one another. I know it's going to be epic. Some good has to happen after all the people Ari has lost.

And SAMANTHA!! THANK-YOU. I saw the estimated release date for the next book and you waste no time! You are jumping right into the 4th book in this installment. I absolutely hate when i have to wait a year in a half for the next book in an installment it's why i steer clear of series that aren't yet done. Once again....this book is a must read if you've read her other two. Belle Malory of Wanderlove and Samantha Young have similar writing styles as far as they both can draw you into a book you never imagined yourself reading in the first place, but they are still completely original and unique in their own way. Wanderlove is about Gypsies where Samantha's series is about Jinn....two things i never saw myself reading but now i pretty much live my life based off the fact that i know these two authors are writing another epic novel!

Borrowed Ember felt a little directionless compared to the first two books. A little slow and wandering for the first half of the book. Ari decides she's going to be a hunter of bad guys because that feels better than being hunted herself. Except for we never know that anyone new is actually after her, she's just a person of interest that some *might* use for dubious purposes (which remain undefined). So in that first half, she trains a lot and makes out with Jai a lot and it felt a little point...more Borrowed Ember felt a little directionless compared to the first two books. A little slow and wandering for the first half of the book. Ari decides she's going to be a hunter of bad guys because that feels better than being hunted herself. Except for we never know that anyone new is actually after her, she's just a person of interest that some *might* use for dubious purposes (which remain undefined). So in that first half, she trains a lot and makes out with Jai a lot and it felt a little pointless to me (i.e. filler). It's very back loaded as far as action. I think the action could've been spread out to maintain better pacing. As it was, there was some recapping and rushed sequences at the end because it was apparently time for the story to be over.

The tension between Ari and Jai is pretty much reduced to: will they or won't they have sex. This got old after the second round of hot and steamy kissy time that is cut short by Jai the gentleman(of course). (Insert eye roll here.)

This author is really into inserting pop culture references in her work, and it makes me cringe every time. When Red, the super powerful awesome Jinn King says he read Twilight.....uuuuuggggghhhhh. Just, no.

In my review for book 2, I hoped that the author would do something surprising with her dude heavy world. But alas. The most evil characters in this series are all women. Lilif- wants to kill her own children. Nicki- abuses an innocent Jai out of jealousy and spite. Forces Jai's father & brothers to abuse him. Cheats on her husband. The Labartu- the woman who killed Charlie's younger brother for kicks and giggles and then kills another major character later. Yasmin- not that evil, but portrayed as desperately nasty considering Jai's the one that used her. The problem here isn't that they're evil. It's that they're stupidly evil. They are mentally unstable, petty, jealous, vindictive. There is no reason to empathize with them, or to see any intelligence behind their behavior. Whereas if we look at the men who are evil in this book (Asmodeus, Azazil, White) they are calculating, motivated, strategists, and portrayed as Gods that are above ideals of right and wrong. Even though Red and Glass (male characters) kill an innocent man and mess with Charlie, they are still portrayed as sympathetic, good characters. The few positive female characters that exist are (view spoiler), which I thought was particularly nasty and unnecessary. Of course Ari is a good female, but she also seems to be lacking in any flaws. She's beautiful, kind, strong, loyal; just all around awesome sauce that everyone either wants to get with or protect or control. She's on the other end of the black and white spectrum these female characters are painted into. And then we can't forget the harems of women for the Jinn King's pleasure, and the servant girls who are vacant in the eyes.

Do I think these patriarchal overtones are intentional? No. Disappointing, yes. I recognize that patriarchy is likely part of the mythology on which this story is based. BUT, within a fantasy realm, there is so much room to challenge how we see the world. There is a real need for female characters who aren't painted into the virgin/whore dichotomy. To make them complex, real, whole characters. And I'm afraid this series fails at that. Too bad.

**Because this review sounds awfully harsh upon my reviewing it, I want to add that taken as a whole, I thought this series was very unique and entertaining. I loved the concept, and I have really enjoyed Samantha Young's books. Read on! =)(less)

Ok. So I have to start off by saying, I usually enjoy every book I read. I'm not very hard to please. That said, I struggled to like this book. I actually feel ripped off and wished I hadn't bought it.

I can get past writing mistakes, book two had a major flaw that I had a hard time getting past, but I sucked it up and continued reading because I thought hey, she has a great plot going.

And book three actually had a good start, then the more I read I felt like I was reading something written by a...more Ok. So I have to start off by saying, I usually enjoy every book I read. I'm not very hard to please. That said, I struggled to like this book. I actually feel ripped off and wished I hadn't bought it.

I can get past writing mistakes, book two had a major flaw that I had a hard time getting past, but I sucked it up and continued reading because I thought hey, she has a great plot going.

And book three actually had a good start, then the more I read I felt like I was reading something written by a teenager for an adult. And when I was in school and you did the sort of things Ari and Jai did in private, well that was not moving slow... That's all I have to say. Plus I thought it was way too graphic for a teen novel and I had to skip over certain parts.

But that's not what bothered me. The series had so much potential. Book one got me hooked. I could look past the fact that every character had the same personality. All of them were angry and broken and in desperate need of love. But the big moment she built up to fizzled out in this book. It was a huge let down and I'm so disappointed that there was this epic build up and I feel like she just brushed the plot off because she was more interested in Charlie.

Which brings us to book four. Really? A fourth one? After reading these three, I have no interest in book four. I think at this point the series is just being prolonged, for who knows why? I don't. I honestly can't waste more money on a series that could have been awesome but was ruined by the author wanting to create drama for the characters. There's a fine line on creating drama to interest readers and creating too much to make them all become bland and boring.

So now that I've given all that negativity, I did love Fallon. She was the only interesting character. She did a good job with Charlie and his addiction. But it was hard to really accept that he was suffering more because the emeralds seemed to affect everyone the same way.

I gave the book one star. Just because personally I don't think it deserved more. Looking at the four star reviews, I have to wonder if we read the same book...(less)

This carries much of the same beautifully written prose that I like so much. First of all, I just want to say...

WOW!!!

Samantha Young has this way of creating worlds that suck you in completely and spit you back out when the book is over. I became so engrossed in the Jinn world that I lost a few hours of sleep, but it was totally worth it!

I am giving this book 3.5 stars.

I finally finished reading Borrowed Ember and I am so glad it is over. This book was a mix of good and bad. It had me hooked in the beginning and then at the end. The middle was a whole different deal, it was so damn slow, I seriously thought about just dumping it. But I’m kinda glad I didn’t because of the last bit.

it is clear why Samantha Young is one of my favorite writers, they way she imagines and describes people, places are so unique and breath taking.

Unaccustomed to reading paranormal novels about the Jinn, these novels have become the foundation from which I will from now on base other Jinn novels on. Why? the world of Jinn's and the different types and levels of evil permeating from each is not only intriguing, bit different for a change.

Wow! Each book in the 'Fire Spirits' series has ended with a cliffhanger; but, "Borrowed Ember" ends with a doozie. Ari and Jai have finally come to gripes with their feelings for each other but realize it is best kept secret. They go to one of the guilds where Charlie is being trade by the sorcerer, Jack, while Ari will be trained by Jai and Fallon, a young guild member.

I’ve read almost all of Samantha Young’s books. I’ve noticed that in all of her series, Sam (can I call you Sam?) has this insanely frustrating habit of giving me just enough to whet my appetite, to keep me going. Then I get to the end of the book and I want to throw my Kindle across the room because it’s never enough. I always want to know what happens next RIGHT NOW, not when the next book comes out. This is the main reason why she’s on my auto-buy list and I’ll pretty much read anything she w...more I’ve read almost all of Samantha Young’s books. In Scorched Skies (review), we leave off with Ari and Jai rushing to Mount Qaf to save Charlie. A common theme in this series. Charlie is on trial for killing a half-blood royal, and while he had good reasons for doing so, the Jinn are a stubborn people. Charlie barely scrapes out of the trial with his life intact, and he, Ari and Jai leave the treacherous environment of Mount Qaf at the first opportunity. After the events at the end of Scorched Skies, Ari decides she is tired of being a victim. She wants to become the hunter, instead of the hunted. They all head back to the Roe’s, the Guild that harbored them in the previous book. Ari immediately begins training with Jai and Fallon, while Charlie hides himself away to do mysterious revenge things with another Guild hunter, Jack.

At the Guild home, Ari and Jai experience a few weeks of peace for the first time in months. But the vultures are ever circling, just waiting for the perfect opportunity for Ari to slip up so they can forcibly bring her back to Mount Qaf for good. As the days wear on, Ari struggles to contain the Seal’s power within her, and it’s starting to change her. It’s getting harder to control, especially when it comes to any threats regarding Jai. They’ve been forced to keep their relationship a secret, but the White King’s spies have discovered the truth and Ari’s evil father devises a plan to kidnap Jai, hoping to force Ari to his side and under his thumb.

Ari runs to Azazil, where she learns the truth about the Seal and why it’s trying to take control of her body. Ari finally realizes that the balance must be maintained, and that she is not strong enough to hold the Seal. She must decide between her own life, or those of the people she loves.

Where Scorched Skies was heavy on the action, Borrowed Ember was a bit slower paced. We learn a lot more in this book about the Jinn world, Ari and the Seal, Azazil’s motives, the White King’s motives, who Ms. Maggie really is, what Asmodeus wants, and whether or not the Red King would choose between Ari or his loyalty to his father. A lot of secrets are revealed, some that are devastating, and some that bring relief and comfort.

I found myself wishing for some more gumption from Ari. She was firm in her desire to train and learn how to use her powers, but when she was put in a situation where she could actually fight, she sort of froze up and someone always showed up in the nick of time to save her. I hope that we see more growth with her character in the next book. I don’t need her to be Wonder Woman, but I’d like her to be able to stand up for herself, and even more, believe in herself. I really admire Ari’s loyalty to her friends and family. She always puts them first, but sometimes that makes her a little TSTL, and she is so much better than that. I hope that in the future we see her embrace the world she was violently thrust into, but can no longer avoid. She wants so badly to be normal, but I’d like to see her make a new normal with the life she now has. I want her to fight alongside Jai, not be okay with him pushing her behind him when they’re backed into a corner.

Jai is devastatingly handsome and sexy, as always. If there’s one thing Sam does well, it’s her heroes. He’s a perfect blend of vulnerability and strength, and he loves Ari so much. It was so hard to read about their difficulties in keeping their relationship a secret, when he just wanted to shout to the world that Ari was his and no one was to mess with her.

I hate Charlie. I’ve never liked him, but I tried to at least tolerate him for Ari’s sake. What he did in this book pushed me right over the edge from tolerating deep into loathing territory. I kept yelling at Ari to just give him up. He’s clearly made his choice to pursue this ridiculous revenge of his without regard to anyone else, and it annoyed me that she kept wanting to save him. And the end.. HOLY COW the end. Sam, you killed me. Seriously. What went down in the hotel AND Ms. Maggie? Was that absolutely necessary? SOB.

My Summary: I’ve always been intrigued with this series, but now I desperately want to know where it’s going from here. My mind is filled with questions about what’s going to happen next, and I can’t get the story out of my head. Ari and Jai are one of my most favorite YA couples, and I hope they have some time in the next book to just be. I love the action, but I also love the moments where they can be together and enjoy each other’s company. I’m hoping they can go on a regular date or something. (Wink, wink ) I highly recommend this series, and if you haven’t read it, start with Fire Spirits. I promise you’ll love ‘em just as much as I do.

Oh my god oh my god oh my god!!! This book was awesome!!

First thing I must say it I hate Charlie!!!
This boy has caused so many problems that it is just ridiculous I understand that Ari loves him and everything but damn come on now!!! He is a little coward who just gets everyone hurt and breaks Ari's heart time and time again like she hasn't nothing else going on and then he wants to know why she doesn't love him??? Really!!!

I have a thing where once I start a series i HAVE to finish.

In the book they have different POV's. I loved seeing the characters take on things happening throughout out the book. We got to see the POV's of some of the Jinn Kings and Jai and Charlie. I love Jai with his protectiveness over Ari and how he slowly allows himself to love somebody. So while I was reading I always hoped the next chapter would be from his POV. You have no clue how much I love him and his brooding-ness. So... Charlie... yeah... I hate that son-of-a-bitch. Yes, I liked reading his POV's, but only to see what stupid thing he would do next. Why couldn't you have killed him Samantha, why?!?! To tell you the truth I never liked him. Since the first book. Yeah I get that your brother died sure I would be sad too, but that doesn't mean you have to be a freaking man whore! But, I cant say that I wasn't a little entertained by his stupidity. I don't know how Ari put up with that. I love Ari and how she always put others before herself. She is one of those characters you feel attached to and wish the best of. Wait... I almost forgot about Red. He was too funny to me. He's my favorite... Jinn King...or either my favorite uncle of Ari's. I don't know but I do know he is awesome.

One thing I didn't like was how my favorite characters got killed. It deeply upset me I wanted to rage quit the book. Yes I said it...rage quit, definition- to stop or quit reading a book due to ones rage...I've done it before, but I always end up finishing the book after a while. Shows how much willpower i have '-' .The reason I didn't was because I loved the book too much to stop. Another reason is I wanted to see the reactions of the people that were effected by it...wasn't as dramatic as I hoped, but good enough.

Now the bad guys... yes i despise The White King. I wish he could die. Yes I do have a death wish for a lot of characters in this book. Lilith and that guy Asmodeus well, hard for me to explain. No I don't like Lilith but i do like action, lets leave that open for the imagination. Asmodeus is very mysterious I was kind of getting mixed feelings while reading. The character who Charlie is going after, kind of felt like an extra in a way. So, yes had a some problems but loved it nonetheless. Highly anticipating the fourth book. Thank god there is going to be another book. I'd probably die of shock if there wasn't. Wouldn't want that o.o(less)

Now i understand why Samantha said this was complicated in writing..i agree with her..writing from many POV's and expressing everyone's emotions is a great deal of work and to add this book has the most revelations,events that are very important to the series and which makes sense to the story.So far the most capturing books of 3..

Ari is having trouble with keeping control over the seal, feeling it keeps growing stronger. Still somehow that isn't really translating of the pages. There are indeed moments when her emotions are really high and then the seal really shows, but otherwise it's not convincing me. Also Ari wants to take control in her own hands, not wanting to be saved all the time, wanting to hunt bad Jinns, having that purpose in life, but she still comes over and behaves like a victim. I had hoped she would have gotten a stronger personality, but she's a puppet for everyone, behaving exactly how they want it.

Jai is still the sweetest guy ever. He finally dares to open up, we get more insight in what he's thinking and feeling. There are even some scenes where it starts to get all hot and heavy between him and Ari, before Mrs. Maggie interrupts. Unfortunately he still stays a bit in the background. He's foremost Ari's protector and an excellent fighter, all the rest comes second. I know he's a man of few words, but his opinion and personality should have the opportunity to shine a bit more.

I can't say much about the story without giving away spoilers, but overall I'm wondering if this was really all? There is this feeling for me that there should be more. Some side characters have these big personalities that draw your attention, while somehow the main characters start fading towards the background, when it should be the opposite. Samantha Young has created this wonderful world of Jinns, but I feel she's not using the full potential of that world. I'm really hoping the fourth installment will bring some more excitement.(less)

Jai comes to life in this book as well. He admits his love for Ari, though it is hard for him as he was abused when he was younger, felt unloved by his father and beaten mercilessly by his family and tribe on many occasions, blamed for something his mother did. It has taken him a long time to accept his emotions and the author does it very well, showing us his anguish easing over time all because Ari loves him unconditionally. Charlie is still hell bent on his revenge and vows to kill the jinn who murdered his younger brother, even if it means pushing away those he loves and maybe getting killed in the process. This boy, who was once addicted to drugs, alcahol and easy girls is now addicted to the power of his magic. It consumes eveything, even though he thinks that Ari is his true love, he cant seem to put her first and finds himself in a whole lot of trouble towards the end of this book. Even when he meets the new girl Fallon, who he grows to care about, he still cant seem to push away his addictions.

One of the little treasures in this book is the addition of Trey who was only touched upon in the other books. His loyalty to Jai is endearing, his own set of problems makes your heart ache for him. Being gay in his life is difficult, keeping the secret is becoming harder and it would kill his dad to find out. Trey, although we have not seen the world from his POV, is yet another character I care about in this series.

The ending was fantastic and it keeps you needing more, wanting to know what will happen because the author has a great way of leaving nail biting cliff hangers and this one is no different!! I have to read the next book, I have to find out what happens to Charlie, Ari and Jai, even if it means the series is coming to an end...(less)

The writing is fabulous, the plot is thick and has lots of momentum, and Ari's feelings for Jai are so relatable that I was literally swooning over him. I love the way the characters have developed and enjoy the direction the series has taken.

*SPOILER AHEAD* (I put this in here to help me remember for when I read the next book)

White steals Jai and Ari is forced to go to Azeal and beg his help. Azeal says that he will keep Jai and Charlie safe if Ari will stay with him indefinitely. Ari agrees. She will do anything to keep Jai safe. They find that the Seal is actually Lilif's essence and it is trying to dominate Ari. They end up ripping the Seal out of Ari and she nearly dies, but Red comes in time to save her. Lilif's brother possesses the Seal now but it doesn't work on Ari and that makes him furious.

Ari goes to save Jai, who is trapped in a bottle at his Father's house. White is waiting for her there and nearly kills Ari, but Sala, Ari's mom, steps in and White kills her instead. Red tries not to blame Ari for the death of Sala, whom he loved. Jai breaks off all ties with his family.

Meanwhile...Charlie and Fallon are going after the beast that killed Charlie's little bro. Fallon ends up dying. Charlie kills the jinn, then disappears. He is completely overcome by the power of the emeralds. Jai, Ari and Trey (who is having a little fling with Glass) stay with the Roes and join the guild. There first assignment is to kill Charlie.

And that's how it all ends. Really can't wait for the next one!!!(less)

I was hooked with Smokeless Fire and read it in under a day, and when Scorched Skies delved further into the Jinn world I was captivated, but I think Borrowed Ember so far has to be my favorite out of the three. If you haven’t picked up a book by Samantha Young, let me tell you, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! I am making my way down a list of all her books and so far NOT ONE has left me disappointed. I am still amazed at how good this author writes and the stories she can tell. I was so invested in the story of Ari and her world that for three days straight I read book one, two, and three. I literally locked myself in this house and did not stop reading them back to back. I loved it!

Let me tell you what I loved most about Borrowed Ember. The growth of the characters and the way they fell right into their skin. The first book I have to admit, I wasn’t a big fan of Ari. She sort of bugged me and about two times I thought about putting the book down. I didn’t, and only because I knew Samantha Young had something up her sleeve. I knew I wasn’t going to be let down. I am so happy I ended up continuing it. They really grow throughout the entire series and I love how Young can really take her readers by surprise. She does not hold back and there is no limit in her worlds.

For those who aren’t familiar with this series, The Fire Spirits series pulls you into a world of The Jinn a.k.a Genies. This was so refreshing for me and I think that also added to why I love this series so much. It’s different, entertaining, and unique. The characters are very believable and everything runs at a very smooth pace. You get just enough in every chapter.

There was one little issue I had with the book and it was just one event that took place that left me wondering Why go through all that, if it were that easy to take it away? I guess you will just have to read to find out what I am talking about. I highly recommend this series, and all other books by Samantha Young.

Well written, well rounded book! Plus if you've read the first two you must read this one! Romance + lots of magic + complete Jinn world = great read.

The author has included tons of details about all the different characters, Jinn lore, etc. I absolutely love the titles of the chapters!

Unfortunately for me I totally thought this was the last book in the series, so when I came to about 90% completion I was really freaking out. BUT, the good news is I love Ms. Young's books and I cannot get enough...more

Aww, I actually cried in this one! I'll be the first to admit there were a few things that happen in this one that I just did not see coming which I absolutely love (that doesn't mean I love what happened!)!
