I finished this book a few minutes before the New Year began. I kept dragging feet for the longest time, and not because it was slow and dull. Oh no, just the opposite. I didn't want it to end! I LOVED this book, but then again, look who the author is. I became a loyal fan when I read Vickie's first book, JUST EVIL. Then I finished the remaining two books of the EVIL trilogy. I must admit I was nervous to jump into a new series, a romance series, but I decided to take the chance. I've never been...more

This is a great story. It is well-written, and has been well edited and proofed. The story line is believable, and the characters well-drawn. I will indeed be looking for more books in this series.

I was given a copy of this book for the purpose of review.

Nick Harris has enough weighing on his conscious and the last thing he needed was to get his heart mixed in. Nick made a promise to his buddy while they were fighting in Iraq, now he had to follow through. After surviving an IED attack on his unit and now suffering from PTSD, he has a lot on his mind. Arriving in Pelican Pointe, he meant to go straight to Col. Scott Phillips widow, Jordan, say what he needed to say and be back on the road...more

WHAT I LIKED:

This was a contemporary romance, which is one of the genres I don't typically read very much. All too often authors focus solely on the relationship forming between two people in a contemporary romance. Now there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I just prefer more action in my stories or else I get bored. Believe me when I say this book is as far from boring as you can get.

It starts with a heartbreaking, and far too common I'm sure, scene where an IED forever changes the lives...more

I was given this book by the Author for an Honest review!!!

Generally I am not much for romance, I don't mind if there is a little bit of romance but never one for overly mushy love story's. That is what I liked about this one not overly mushy. After reading this I look at romance as a new genre for me.

Nick Harris has returned to L.A. after being injured while deployed in Iraq. After losing his best friend and Captain Scott Phiilips after a IED (Roadside Bomb)took Scott's life and changed Nicks f...more

Promise Cove by Vickie McKeehan

Rating 5*****

The day Nick appeared on that Harley answered a year's with of Jordan's silent prayers. Since the death of her husband Scott, the repairs on the bed and breakfast had been sadly neglected. The bank was harassing her to make payments and she had no idea where the money would come from.
Nick owed his buddy his life. So, he found himself here in this small town, helping a widow and her young child. Fix what needs fixing and leave; that's the motto he li...more

Promise Cove (A Pelican Pointe Novel by Vickie McKeehan
I absolute adore this book. Jordan is a likeable protagonist and the sexual tension between her and Nick could light a light bulb in a power outage.
The love story that enfolds is nice and romantic and believable. This is not one of those stories where a jump in logic is what brings the two characters together. It is also not one of those where they keep the tension dragging until the reader looses interest. The author strikes a perfect bala...more

When I first started reading this book I thought two things: 1) "Oh no, not another Peyton Place (look it up if you are too young to remember it)" and 2) "Oh no, not another I-was-traumatized-in-the-war" melodrama.

By the end of the book I was ashamed of those thoughts since, though, it has elements of both; it is really neither. What I am thinking now is, "What an excellent, exceptional, romance." and that is what I want those who read this review to think.

While the book starts out with the tw...more

A Powerful Love Story

This story encompasses the drama that many survivors of deceased military men and women experience in a realistic and beautiful manner. The author manages to use dialogue and introspection to accomplish this.

Captain Scott Phillips and his best buddy, 1st Lt. Nick Harris were riding in a Humvee in Iraq when it was hit by an IED. During the months these two men were together, Scott talked constantly of his wife Jordan and baby daughter Hutton and the small town of Pelican Poin...more

Promise Cove is an emotional story that has been cleverly crafted into an engaging and uplifting read. At the heart of the book lies a tale of a small family destroyed by the raging war in Iraq and a small town’s unwillingness to step up and help one of their own.

Jordan really is a smashing character, with McKeehan effortlessly portraying her simultaneously as a grieving widow with the world on her shoulders, a caring mother and an intelligent woman trying her best to emotionally move on. Jordan...more

I received a copy of Promise Cove in exchange for a fair review.

Promise Cove is a wonderful story about Nick, an Iraqi veteran, who comes to Pelican Pointe to fulfill a promise to his fallen friend Scott. Scott left behind his wife Jordan, and their daughter, Hutton, who he had never had the chance to meet.

Jordan is trying to fulfill her own promise to Scott, to open the Bed and Breakfast in their home, as they'd been working on together before Scott was deployed.

Nick never imagined that the won...more

Promise Cove is a lovely, compelling and beautiful book. I wasn't sure to begin with but it was amazing to read. From the Prologue, to Nick meeting Jordan, to them slowly falling in love and the endin had me in tears (which is rear but always makes me like a book even more) I also liked that Nick kept on seeing Scott and that former Unit members were there and Jordan's family.

One thing that bothered me is the name Hutton (where does it come from?, why did Jordan name her daughter that name? wha...more

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

This is definitely a weekend romance read that has all the elements of feelings you would expect in a great romance. Starting off with tragedy, pain and grief, your heart is wrenched as two friends part ways. As the story unfolds a new beginning starts. Pain and grief is replaced with healing and warmth. As the two main characters rebuild a run down old house they are also rebuilding their lives and maybe their hearts. Is it possible to love a...more

This book was given to me free by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Promise Cove was a very enjoyable read. Ms. McKeehan has an easily readable writing style. I fell in love with Nick and I’m a little jealous of Jordan. The chemistry between the two main characters was at times romantic, then sweet, then intensely passionate. The way the hero seemed to naturally learn to care for the heroine’s baby was touching. I smiled many times at the loving interaction between this big, strong he-...more

I received this book to review. I really enjoyed it. Nick was in the war with Scott. When Scott was killed Nick promised to make sure his dream of a B&B was fulfilled. When he arrives to talk to Jordan, Scott's widow, he realizes she needs a lot of help getting things finished.
Jordan is trying to finish the work but is not getting any help from the town, which Scott thought would be there for her.
Nick is troubled by Scott's death and is falling in love with Jordan. Add a cute little girl and...more

I enjoyed this very much. While there were a few cliches interspersed throughout the book, Ms. McKeehan resolves most of them in a refreshingly non-cliched way. Nick and Jordan made a good couple, and the additional guidance given to Nick by a unique secondary character could have turned into a treacly mess, yet again, McKeehan avoided that trap. (view spoiler)[I was disappointed that we didn't get to see Sissy get her public comeuppance, but that was a minor niggle. (hide spoiler)]

This book had a good back story, but there is so very many things wrong with the EXTRA filth (In my opinion) that did nothing to help the story line. The cursing was way over the top! And what could have been a good book just turned into a smutt fest. They could have been alluded to how they were feeling, but instead went for shock factor of descriptive thoughts and actions.
I just can't with good conscious recommend this book to anyone. I only finished the book so I could give a thorough, educa...more

I picked this book up to try it, on a Kindle offer, and I really enjoyed it. I found it well written, and as someone else commented, well edited too. A good balance of emotion and action and strong main characters who are touching.

4* is a very good score for me. I keep 5* for Pride and Prejudice ;)

I have now read the other two books in this series and am waiting for the next one...

I was really surprised by the author and that I loved Promise Cove as much as I did. This author has created a town that I want to believe is real and all those people will be waiting for me one day when I coming driving into town. The first place I’m going to stop is Murphy’s store. You’ll love all the characters and I can’t wait to start the next book.

LOVED THIS BOOK!! First in the series and I feel like Pelican Pointe is a real place. I loved the story so much I got some of the girls I work with to download the books to their PCs using the Kindle app. Vickie Mckeehan brings life to Nick and Jordan in a way that makes it feel like they might live down the street from me.

I enjoyed Promise Cove. The steaminess was light. The story was touching and heartfelt. I would have enjoyed more development of their relationship. I wish the epilogue had a little more insight into their future to give me a completed HEA, but it is part of a series, so maybe I'll learn more in future books.

I will check out the next book in this series.

Jordan and Scott decided to follow his dream of opening up a bed and breakfast. Little did they know Scott would be killing in Iraq before his dreams were fulfilled. Nick who was in the Army with Scott checks in on the widow. Little does he know he will help achieve Scott's goal and fall in love with his widow at the same time. I loved this book! Have tissues handy!! WaAR

Another great book from Vickie McKeehan. I loved watching the relationship between the characters progress. She is a whiz story teller and once again, I could not put the book down. Great ending with a bit of a twist. Loved it!

I like this story. Not a huge fan of descriptive sex, but I just skipped that part. Could have done without. The story was well written and well developed.

The plot was very good. I do not think the writing was good at all. I found myself skimming the insignificant details.
