Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American poet, short story writer, playwright, editor, literary critic, essayist and one of the leaders of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and of the macabre, Poe was one of the early American practitioners of the short story and a progenitor of detective fiction and crime fiction. He is also credited with contributing to the emergent science fiction genre.

Holy crap, it’s a brick of brilliance! This doorstop-sized volume contains the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe. The poetry, the essays, the short stories – you got it here.
Holy crap.
Pick this up and skim a few of his works and you’ll know whether or not you want it. If you’re studying authors, though, why wouldn’t you get this? It gives you unparalleled access to the complete artistic thoughts of one of America’s most important early writers.

Poe definitely had some duds, but you can't consider yourself "well read" unless you've read some of his works. I reccomend "The Fall of the House of Usher" for anyone who likes allegories. It's incredibly dark and twisted, but it's worthy of consideration.
"Annabelle Lee" is a great poem. It's verbal poetry, the way he strings words together. Read it out loud for full effect.

I haven't actually read this whole collection of Poe's works, but I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything I've ever read by this man. Therefore, I'd really love to own this collection so that I can read all of his works whenever I want.
Some of my favorite pieces by Poe include: The Pit And The Pendulum, The Mask Of The Red Death, The Fall Of The House Of Usher, and others.

Poe is probably the only author that I have taken the time to read over and over. I was that kid that always checked out nothing but stories on ghosts and witches, etc, from the library. This is one of my most treasured books in my library. To this day I take it down and share with my friends and my family. He was deranged, his poems though dark are yet very beautiful.

Well known for his short stories, which I agree are chilling and descriptive, Poe may surprise anyone not familiar with his poetry, especially, my favorite, The Bells. Their ring turns from cheery to dreary in no time. This book is a staple for any personal library and can be entertaining 365 days a year, every year. So much interesting material.

I love Poe. He is so dark and creepy. Its obvious the man suffered from some sort of psychological problems. The man also needed to get some sun. I must say The Fall of the House of Usher is definately one of the scariest stories I have ever read. The Raven is one of my favorite poems. I know its cliche, but it is so well written and vivid.

Poe, the Father of the modern Horror Story. One can't beat Poe for fun, horror, and thrills. One wonders, are all Poe's characters crazy at the beginning of each story, or by the conclusion of it?
My favorites have always been "The Black Cat," and the "Tell Tale Heart."
The only other writer coming close to Poe in fear is King.

Once you're past the most popular short stories, go to the source and find a good edition of every short and article ever published by the greatest author of macabre literature. I have read 'em all and can recommend "Descent into the Maelstrom" and "Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym" for those willing to go off the beaten track.

I always liked this author, the topic and prose, even the poems. It's not overly complicated and with very catching plots
Since this book has several stories I didn't read it all at once but a couple of stories at the time. I didn't have the complete work at first.
From all his work, The Raven

I have loved Edgar Allan Poe ever since that rainy Halloween day when my elementary school teacher read The Raven out loud to our class. Since then, I have never gotten tired of reading and rereading his stories and poems. When it is late at night and you are looking for a good chill, Poe's your man.

Anyone who likes a Murder Mystery, and can understand fancy writing
I cherish Edgar Allen Poe. He is on my favorite author list, and definatly rocks the world of thriller mysteries. The only problem I find with his stories is that his writting is wordy, so I can only take so long with one short story to read his work. They are great stories to lull to sleep.

I was turned on to Poe at an early age and have been in love with his twisted writing ever since.
I like to get into some Poe from time to time. Especially when it's raining and dreary. Except living in Southern California makes those days few and far between.
Poe = Genius

Who doesn't like Poe?! His stories are perfect for Halloween. I especially like the Tell-Tale Heart, the Fall of the House of Usher, the Masque of the Red Death, and the Cask of Amontillado. The only problem with this edition is that it's too damn big to hold while in bed.

My favorite is the Raven. Such a meaningful poem and has always fed my thirst for a man that would feel that way about little ol me.
Of course...this book is full of Poe's greatness. A classic every person should read at some point in their life.

I don't care what any one says Edgar Allen Poe is an amazing writer. I love everything of his. I have his poems on my walls and all his works obviously. Some of his work is a little morbid but I still love it.

those who love poetry, and especially those with the stomach for the macabre
Poe is a literary genious. His dark prose is engrossing, disturbing, and rich all at the same time. Don't take this all in at once, but sipping from the chalice of Poe's Amontillado can be a guilty pleasure.

Poe is one of my favorite American authors. I love his dark, sometimes morbid stories. I read Poe to my students all the time. My favorites are The Tell Tale Heart, The Black Cat, and The Cask of Amontillado.

This isn't the exact book i've read, but i've read so many of Poe's works that they're probably all in there. "Tell Tale Heart" is probably my favorite. It's hella creepy; but that's what's so great about it!

Although horror is not usaully my 'sup of tea', I completely enjoyed Poe's short stories. From my first read of "The Black Cat' In highschool I was hooked. Such a mysterious man. An inigma to me.
