This is a short novel. I think it's remarkably short for what it achieves. It's a modest novel - a rare thing - but like modest people - there is genuine depth. Individual lives, family bonds, important social history, the need to put ourselves in context and landscape and also the need to make memorials for those who have been lost. This book had strong and weak points. Worth reading but not going out of my way to read, if you know what I mean. Good "airport book."

Amy Kenyon is a writer and photographer. She was born in Michigan in 1954 and spent her childhood in suburban Detroit.

Trained in photography and in history, Amy’s studies took place in France, Massachusetts and England. She has worked as a mental health advocate, a literacy campaigner and a lecturer in Cultural History.

She now lives in London and is a visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College, Univ
