It seems to me like this past year has seen a glut of Snow White adaptations, so many the phrase nothing like any Snow White adaptation you've ever read before has probably lost all meaning, but that really only makes A White So Red all more the remarkable. I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised by this action-packed, well paced, refreshing take on the classic - yeah, it still follows the easily recognizable formula, of course you gotta have the Evil Queen for one, but Krystle Jones's t...more

This book was so good I'm speechless! Just absolutely incredible. A White So Red takes the Snow White story and delves deeper to create a brilliant book.
BTW, is that not one of the most gorgeous covers you've ever seen? Seriously, it's gorgeous. But, more importantly, what's inside that cover is just as lovely.

This is a retelling of Snow White and I love it! Natalia and her sister Rose are no better than slaves after her father the King dies and leaves his new wife as Queen and ruler. Natalia tries her best to protect her little sister and often takes punishment meant for her. When she is took to the forest by the head huntsman she manages to escape before he could kill her. She finds herself around Dwarves who are carnivorous and very mean. There is a couple of them that is nice but only a few. Nata...more

Before you read a book, you look at the cover. If the cover isn't all that impressive, you generally put the book down. The cover of the book itself isn't all that boombaha. Just the generic mysterious shot w/ the fantasy backround. It's the model on front that makes it awesome. I can thank thank thank someone up the food chain that they didn't use a diapheromera femorata. Honestly. I can name plently of models on book covers that look like they haven't the slightest idea of what food is. Not th...more
I have long been a fan of reimagined fairy tales. I love seeing what authors come up with to put a new spin on long time favorite fairy tales. "A White So Red" is a new version of Snow White. Natalia and her younger sister Rose live with their "wicked" stepmother Queen Octavia after their father's death. This Queen is hard core evil. In fact, the whole book is very dark and bleak in mood. However I found the story compulsively readable. I didn't honestly know whether things were going to work ou...more
This retelling of Snow White is a much darker story than the classic tale and bears a superficial resemblance to the new movie "Snow White and the Huntsman" currently at the cinemas. There is the beautiful queen Octavia who after killing off the King rules the land of Thesperia with evil intent. Enslaved are the two daughters who once were princesses but are now beaten and punished for who they are by the queen. Natalia and Rose are each other's comfort and they try to stay alive by slaving away...more

I was provided a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
MY OVERVIEW: Wow! Just wow! This was a fantastic reimagining of Snow White.
PROS: I loved Snow (Natalia). She was such a fantastic character and was written beautifully. Casper was definitely swoon-worthy. He just made your heart melt whenever he interacted with Snow. The way the evil queen was done was brilliant! (view spoiler)...more

A beautiful retelling of Snow White with some cool twists. The dwarfs are especially fun and unique and have a great relationship with Snow. If you enjoy fairy tale retellings with a twist, you should give this book a shot. Thanks to Krystle Jones for giving me the opportunity to beta read this book, the final version was even better!
"A White So Red" is unlike any other version of the classic fairy tale you've read or watched before. From the opening chapters I knew this story was going to be markedly different. As the tale unfolds we're given a broad canvas that only grows larger once Snow escapes the Queen's clutches. In the metal forest, she is tried and tested and learns that she is so much more. Magic colors the world and the more Snow learns of her true heritage, the broader and more beautiful everything becomes. A few...more
first time reading a different version of a fairytale...need more time to read so i take it slowly...I know I'll need more time to finish it but so far it has been a great story of snow white. a refreshingly darker fairy tale, and im only at page 41...a lot of pages to go through but happy to read it
I thought this was a good twist on the Snow White fairy tale. I liked that the people either had power or they didn't. I think that it was a great twist with Via at the end. I liked how fast of a read it was and how smoothly it went. I would recommend this to anyone who likes YA.

I was so close. I was at 80%, but…agh. I just couldn't finish. Like, I stopped reading, I lost interest, and it sucks because I was so close to finishing it!

“What's the purpose of having faith when you know bad things are bound to happen?'
'Then it wouldn't be called faith,' he said, with a small smile and a twinkle in his eyes. 'The world may throw its darkness at you, but if you can still manage to see the light through it, then you'll know you're strong enough to walk through fire.”

'Spiders are scarier,' she murmured, staring ahead.”
