Coming in at 233 pages, this book is a frustratingly brief introduction to the 400 or so year history of Britain’s imperial activities. In order to fit in a broad take on the major economic, political and social developments in the Empire across four centuries, it skims over even iconic events such as the American War of Independence, Defeat of the Spanish Armada, Battle of Trafalgar and the World Wars – few get more than half a sentence’s mention.
