This is PART ONE of The Rake And The Recluse, it has been completely re edited with new scenes and new images and is being released as it was originally intended, as a six part serial novel. This is NOT a series it is a SERIAL, that means it has to be read in order.

***original review posted at Romancing Rakes***

Jamie: It’s here! It’s here! Let me tell you, when I opened my email and found The Rake and The Recluse Part 1 I just about fell off my bed. I wasn’t expecting it to be there. So of course I did what every good book reviewer would do... I looked at the pictures. Multiple times.

What did you do when you found TRATR in your email?

Kati: What I did with the original...flip through for the pictures and was not disappointed. Oh and I skimmed through looki...more

Francine Larrabee, lives in 21st century Denver. Her brilliant anthropologist father proposed that certain people were born at the wrong time. During a taxi ride Francine is thrown back in time, when the driver suddenly swerves. In 1880 Britain Madeleine is running away from her fiancé, the devious and unlikable Earl of Hepplewort. Francine is now Madeleine. Running blindly from the woods Francine startles the horses of Gideon Alrick Trumbull, Duke of Roxleigh and is nearly trampled to...more

This is a difficult one for me to review because I don't feel like i liked it, BUT I kinda want to finish the series. So I sort of liked it. This is the first part of a 6 part story. It also includes pictures. Anyway, it's a typical time-travel romance, a common troupe in romance. A modern woman who doesn't feel like she has a place in her own life, has a tragic past & somewhat mysterious parents, gets into an accident & finds herself transported to Victorian England. She meets the Duke...more

"So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

Jenn LeBlanc is one smart cookie, er, artist. She crafted an enticing time travel story, THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE. LeBlanc added pictures. Not just any pictures but her beautiful photographs. It became the hot book of 2011.

Not one to rest on her laurels (or remain in a safe harbor), LeBlanc went back to the drawing board, added scenes, and produced a six part se...more

Once I managed to get my head around the novel concept of an historical/time travel romance novel, I really enjoyed this first part. I have to say it didn't take me too long, as the writing was on the whole well done.

A superb hero, on the black side actually, whom I am sure I'm going to love as the serialisation continues.

On the downside, I feel it is a little expensive. I managed to snag the 1st book in the series as a free download, but others are around £1.20 each, it is quite an expensive un...more

This book is a great introduction to a six book serial due to be released over the next several months. We are introduced to Francine, our accidental time traveling heroine, and Gideon, 10th Duke of Roxleigh, whose character lives with a troubled past. Through a family theory, a little time travel, and a lot of fate? Destiny? Francine is thrown into Gideon's century and arms. We watch as their story begins to unfold as the reluctant Gideon does not want to accept the new feelings that are stirri...more

Freedom is part one in this re-released version of The Rake and the Recluse. This first part gives us an introduction to Francine Larrabee an independent business woman living in Denver, Colorado. During a morning cab ride to her office she is unexpectedly transported back to the year 1880.

Francine’s father was an anthropologist who had written detailed journals theorizing about a time-shift that would occur during an unnamed family’s li...more

Okay, so I've changed the start rating a few times. It happens. You read a book you really like it, then think about it and realize you rated it lower, drop it to your original rating but the book sticks with you. You keep thinking about it and in my gut know I've rated it wrong.

I really like this book. I like that its serialized. I like getting this first glimpse of Francine and Gideon. That I get to wonder what happens next, (yes I read the original and I know what happens... whatever. I can d...more

*I received this book for review from author. Since The Rake and a Recluse is a serial series, I have read and reviewed parts 1-3 together. Read the full review at: Book Savvy Babe*

Review Thoughts on the series:

Jenn LeBlanc’s photography interspersed throughout the story only enhances the story. Illustrated novels are a very new concept (as far as I know, unique to Jenn LeBlanc), but with both visually stunning photographs and impressive writing Jenn LeBlanc has created a new format for a lite...more

This could have perhaps been a good novel had it not had so much crude sexual scenes in it.
There was some profanity - I strongly doubt a couple of terms were used in the 1800's & early 20th century especially with proper British gentleman - but the obscenity was way out of line. It may have been a desperate attempt to create a series from what was truly one or two novels. Regardless, One would not feel a need to read any further, nor would one be inclined to add these
writings to one's libra...more

I got this as a freebie at Amazon and thought I'd give it a try. Well, it sucked me right in! It is a serial novel after all and you know there's going to be a cliffhanger....you just know it! And then.....and then....well, dear me, when I finished reading part 1, I was in a place without WiFi and couldn't get part 2 until I got home! Glad it didn't take long to get home. My rating for part 1 is a strong 3.5 stars!

When Francine left her apartment that morning for work she had no idea what was around the next bend. Suddenly after an accident she's thrust into the past and into a life and time she knows nothing about. With a brooding gorgeous man hovering over her every move, she must quickly learn to adapt and regain her lost voice.

I was thrilled when Jenn asked me to take part in the re-release of the Rake and the Recluse. The story of Gideon and Francine is so much fun and presented in such a unique form...more

I have read a couple of time travel romances and loved them. This one does not disappoint. I'm addicted, hook, line and sinker. I like the way the same scene is written from the view of different characters.

Pictures were added to this book to help the reader get into the story. I found them unnecessary and odd. I feel that if the author is good enough the reader should be able to visualize the story.

Sets up the series but at times the cuts between scenes and the changes of characters between scenes is choppy. I want to know what happens to them and when Francine will tell Gideon her secret.

This book is not a complete story and has too many POV shifts. Plus, there's a smattering of unnecessary photos. The storyline gets diluted and messy, which is not much of an incentive to continue to the sequel. Overall, I would have traded the photos for more story.

I felt the story was all over the place. I had to re-read pages because it would jump from story to story without being led into it or a page divider...something.Also the pictures throughout the story annoyed the hell out of me!!!!

Really enjoyed this. Can't wait to see where part two takes me!!! I am waiting to see the characters develop more and how/why this happened. Very interesting!

Jenn LeBlanc has several constants in life that define her:

Colorado, Canon, CJ, kids and curls.

Born and raised in a household of other people’s children in this beautiful state —very nearly with a camera in hand— she never left. She talked about escaping; but that never happened. She started her own family, got used to the curls, went to college, built a CJ, and started a business.

She always had...more
