Great Space of Desire is interesting hybrid of a memoir and a writer’s aid, fulfills both purposes fully and beautifully. The personal stories that the author shares are authentic, intriguing, emotionally potent, and eloquently written. Well-paced, and with a strong narrative flow, I couldn’t put it down! Her unique experiences offer interesting insights, but behind each of her stories are archetypes of the human experience we all can empathize with. Dara's story ventured into places that I, as a fellow bi-racial human was well familiar but, I am very glad I decided to read it. After the first few pages and was hooked. Dara's story will surely resonate with most anyone who has tread in two or more worlds. Two passages remain with me. Very beautifully written. I always enjoy reading other people's stories because it exposes me to situations that I probably will never experience myself. Being biracial, I identify with some facets of the story, but some are foreign and eye-opening for me. Dara explains, very effectively, her struggles with self-image, race & culture, her eating disorder, and her relationships with her mom and aunt.
