Beautiful book!

Mr. Adams created wonderful characters and I didn't want to part ways with them when the story ended.

The flashback from the past part was vibrant with Mike and Eric's first love, but with such a sad ending. It wasn't Mike's fault directly, but still I blame him a lot. But he did what he had to taking responsibility of his soon-to-be-born child and shortly after became a sole parent for his daughter Becky, when his new wife leaves him for someone else.

So ten years later Eric return...more
I have a hit and miss relationship with Derek Adams' books. I often like his writing style and I'm impressed that he seems to be able to write in a range of genres within m/m, but his earthy and raunchy erotic sex scenes don't do it for me. I was pleased to find that this book was quite different to many of the other things I've read before by this author. It's still a very sexy book, but it's also sweetly romantic and has two very appealing lead characters.

The story opens with Mikey who works a...more
I loved this book! The story is engaging, sensual and highly romantic. Mike and Eric, two young guys, meet as teenagers. The setting is a bucolic small resort town on the coast. Mike is a local and Eric is the son of rich summer visitors. They meet, fall in love - very hesitantly on Mike's part - and seem fated for happiness. Then, disaster strikes when Mike's former girlfriend announces that she is pregnant with Mike's child. Shortly thereafter, the lovers are torn apart by a shocking act of be...more

Derek Adams has put together a wonderful and heart warming short story of love lost and found again. Mike Vickers is a 38 year old man living in a small tourist town with his ten year old daughter Becky. He does his best for Becky, working hard, being a man of integrity and a totally devoted father. Becky's mother deserted the two of them right after Becky was born and there has been no one in Mike's life since. Mike is working out o...more

Nice shorter story of Mike and Eric who meet as young men in high school and have a fling - just before Mike finds out he is going to be a father. Mike is a local in the small beach town and Eric is part of the "summer people" - meaning the wealthy and disdainful. Except that Eric isn't like that. He is an aspiring artist who invades Mike place of solitude along the old sea wall. As they forge a tentative friendship, things get physical. At the end of the summer, Mike's friends discover them and...more
All in all, this was an enjoyable read. In my opinion, the best part of the book was the flashback. Compared to the present day, it felt more realistic and gave the story a much-needed foundation for the future. As far as characters go, I enjoyed the progressing friendship between the two of them. I didn't like the way they parted and I don't want to excuse Mike's behaviour, but taking into consideration the age, I think his actions were understandable, if not forgivable.

Safe and predictable for an afternoon at the beach-kind-of-read.
Good m/m romance about a single dad who works at a marina, where he runs into the only guy he'd ever been attracted to. This would've been rated higher, but between the characters using each other's names in conversation way more than was realistic and some rather silly euphemisms...

Too short, for one. Too easy, for two. The great parts were the sex scenes as it was just too easy for the guys to fall in love. There needed to be more.
Cute short story. 3.5 stars
