"Hot Button" is a cozy mystery about button collecting. This book was the second in the series, but you don't need to read the first novel to understand this one and this one didn't spoil the mystery in the first novel. There was some information about button collecting, but not as much as I expected. I think I learned more about running a conference.

This series is improving in my opinion. I enjoyed this tale, the location being a button conference in Chicago, Illinois was colorfully described and made me want to join the dinner cruise etc. The characters were vivid, Josie, our sleuth. Helen the past conference chair who is eager to step in to help. The Key note speaker, Thad who was right out of the west. Then the back and forth from Josie's ex-husband, Kaz and her current boyfriend, Nev, who also happens to be the local detective.

Hot Button is the second book in A Button Box Mystery series. A very good follow up to Button Holed.
Button collector Josie Giancola is busy getting ready for the International Society of Antique Button Collectors annual meeting, for which she is the chairperson. She is meeting Thad Wyant, who is the Guest of Honor, at O'Hare Airport. He is a bit of a recluse and is the owner of a historic Geronimo button. Out of the blue Josie ex-husband, Kaz, shows up to provide a limo to go to the hotel in. Ka...more

Another of my favorite series. It's on the must-get list when each book comes out. And this is only the second one in the series.
Each cozy series brings a new-to-me premise that I would love to embrace, but my husband would likely go bonkers so I read about them.
This one is about button collecting. Who would figure that it would be this entrancing or lead to murder?
Josie is in charge of the annual button convention and finds herself neckdeep in a murder investigation. The victim is a loudmout...more

Josie Giancola, owner of the Button Box and chairwoman of the Antique and Vintage Button Collector's conference, is all excited at convincing Thad Wynant to be the keynote speaker at this year's gathering. Thad, a noted recluse, has never attended the conference before but he is well known for his expertise in western themed buttons and his writing about the famous and much coveted "Geronimo" button. The only documented one in existence just happens to belong to Thad.
Josie, as a novice chairwom...more
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one wasn't as good. The romance angle was pretty silly and the murderer was pretty obvious. Why 2 people who can't carry on a conversation but are attracted to each other should be appealing I don't know. Again, there was interesting information about buttons and I enjoyed that. There is a third book in this series and I will give it a try before I decide whether it's a series I will continue reading or not. Hopefully, it will be an improvement.
Button expert Josie Giancola is chairing the national convention for button collectors in Chicago, but the guest of honor is giving her problems. The whole convention is not running as smoothly as she had planned, either, and her irresponsible ex-husband is dogging her footsteps, which means he wants something. The last thing that she needs is a newbie geek with a crush on her. Oh, wait--that's the next-to-last thing she needs: the last thing she needs is a murder at the convention.
I like this series - great characters (although her ex annoys me) and just a bit of romantic tension between Josie and the detective Nev. I love Chicago and it's fun to read about an area that I can easily picture in my minds eye. This particular book I didn't enjoy as much as the first although it was good - and while I was sure I knew who was responsible for some of the crimes, it turned out that while I had the players right, I had the crimes wrong. So, a nice surprise at the end. The backdro...more
Josie is the head of the button conference in Chicago and she was able to get the hermit Western button collector Thad Wyant from Santa Fe to be the keynote speaker. But Thad is not who Josie was expecting. Thad is a loud-mouth, hard-drinking, demanding guy and Josie is having a hard time keeping him happy. Plus, little things are happening at the conference that are making Josie look bad.- things like cancellation of food at the meals and the loss of button boxes after the judging contest.
This entry is a little better than the last but I find them so predictable. I guessed the killer from the start and who Darryl was from the beginning. No surprises for me, but I guess that's what happens when you read to many cozy mysteries that all start to sound the same. I really like Nevin and Josie together but I think that with Kaz always popping up that their relationship is going to be rough. I really like this author's Pepper Martin series so much better so I hope she continues to write...more
I don't understand this author. This is her second book in this series and once again, she has forgotten the name of one of her main supporting characters. Daryl becomes Dylan on page 146 of the book. I should have just given up halfway through, but stupidly I pressed on. The typos & spelling errors were very annoying and I had the "mystery" figured out 50 pages into it. Plus, I didn't really realize how boring buttons actually are. I really usually don't come down this hard on a book, but d...more
This was the second in the Button Box series, and I thought it was a fun read. There were a few different mysteries to solve throughout the story, and even though I guessed the solution to some right from the beginning, it was still an engaging story. I do like the main character of Josie, and the subject of button collecting is interesting to learn about. Overall, I thought that this was an enjoyable read and I look forward to more adventures with Josie.
