4 stars – Erotic Suspense/Thriller

This is a very dark, gritty, violent, and emotional story that is conveyed in an unapologetically raw, candid voice. Despite numerous editing errors, it’s powerful and compelling in its graphic depiction of disturbing, controversial content. It’s told solely from the heroine’s POV, and experiencing her psychological and physical anguish as she’s repeatedly victimized is gut-wrenching at times.

The heroine and quasi hero develop an intrinsic, dysfunctional connec...more

This was not what I exactly expected. Based on a couple of scathing reviews on GR, I thought this was going to be some intense non-con. I'm even questioning the BDSM categorization. This story isn't fluffy, it just wasn't really into the sexual games of BDSM or even the slavery aspects. Yes there was some kinky bondage that should have me going, "bad bad". Instead I was going, "ooh, hot!" If we are going by BDSM standards, I'd say several of these scenes were edgeplay. Since this was more a "gan...more

KEEP ME SAFE is a very intense, well-written story. Told from the first person POV of Rachel, this novella is a disturbing and graphic account of her abduction and rape by gang members. Rachel is deeply conflicted because she’s aroused when the man who claims her first, Zachary, uses her. I thought that their first scene together was ‘dubious consent’ perfection. Very hot. But, just when I think I’ve got it figured out, the story takes an even darker and twisted path. Ms. Warr...more

I have mixed feelings on this one. It was definitely a raw story and unapologetic for the subject manner. If a person has any non-con or rape triggers, they probably shouldn't read this one. I would NOT consider this BDSM in any fashion. I think Rachel and Zachary are two very effed up people who try to make the best of a bad situation. A really bad situation.

The author did keep me intrigued and it was a rather quick read - which I was grateful for.

It's really more a 2.5 stars than 2.

I don't have a problem with a non-con/dub-con story. In fact the questionable nature at the beginning is fine, as is the gritty and unvarnished rape scenes, but I did have problems with two things: characterization of the FBI agent and miscommunications of the protagonists. Zachary never would have passed his psych testing to be an agent. His responses in post-traumatic situations were woefully ignorant of basic psychology which he would have been trained for...more

What do you normally get from a book about being raped?! Well, go figure! Who would want to experience such thing! But this book made me feel EVERYTHING that Rachel (wait! what was her family name, again? *shrugs*) was feeling! Hell I'd so rather be dead after all that shit! If not only for Zachary Kant...

That being said, 2 STARS for this dark erotic book. It was indeed just an okay read.

But still looking forward in reading the other two: Trust in Me and Hear Me. :)

This story is not for the faint of heart and is definitely not for most of the people on my friends list, if you are wary of any kind of rape in a story.

This story explored a side of rape that I haven't seen before and in the beginning of this story, the set up was good. You were right there with the main character as it was happening, you felt her fear and confusion and then you fell apart with her when the shock set it and the numbness wore off. We were in her head and it was really a great po...more

3.5 stars.

If you liked the tied man or captive in the dark; you will love this short read.

This is very short but mainly because I couldn't stop reading it.

The first chapter steals you, grabs you and pulls you in.

This has mostly sex in it, mostly not consensual. It's impressive that Warren managed to write a book that contains so much sex and violence and yet still gave it a strong and intriguing plot.

This could have had more, a bit of history on Zach for a start, he has a huge thing about prot...more

Talk about your disturbing, gut-wrenching stories; this one will stay with me for a very, very long time. I have to say up front that I'm not rating and reviewing this story on the subject matter, and readers need to READ THE DESCRIPTION. Keep Me Safe has repeated rape scenes, gruesome and animalistic sexual behavior, and great deal of violence/beatings for it's short 90 pages, so DO NOT read this story if this is not something you can stomach. Having said that, Skye Warren did an amazing job at...more

What the hell did I just read? I mean honestly, I've got to stop reading these quick reads b/c they never live up to my expectations.

As it states in the title, it WAS a dark erotica. It included rape and other explicit scenes.

I thought it was going to be exactly what the title says. I thought he was going to keep her safe. & he did for the most part.

The story was just blah. I always raise my expectations when I start a new book. The case was the same for Keep Me Safe.

Zachary struck me as...more

surprisingly effective, considering how carefully the author has to pick her way through this moral minefield. i didn't buy every single psychological twist and turn (no charges pressed? that first reunion in her apartment?), but on the whole i was impressed with how the author handled this delicate subject and spun such a captivating (!) story from it.

caveat lector: for some of y'all this sub genre will ever remain understandably untouchable; don't even try to hazard it if you're sensitive to d...more

I found this author perusing on Goodreads for recommendations and was drawn in by the lure of darkness that was presented, please don't ask me to examine the reasoning for this, I think it's best left unknown. :)

On the first page, nineteen words in, I went "Wait...I didn't just read that...did I just read that? What am I reading?!"

This author holds absolutely nothing back, there's no preamble no, sweet talking for the reader, you are abruptly plunged into Skye Warren's world of perversely bathet...more

Before you touch this book - heed the warnings from the author. It's much more gritty and raw than anything I've ever read, and it makes no excuses for the explicit and graphic descriptions of the non-consensual situations depicted within.

It's not an easy read, though at less than 100 pages, it sure is a quick one.

I found some of the heroine's actions rather questionable, especially after her escape. Also, the budding love story aspects that permeate the book, between the two MCs, turned me off...more

Lady Raven RAVE!
BRIEF SUMMARY
Rachel is abducted by gang members and is being helped by one of them, Zachary. Zachary is an undercover FBI agent who needs to do what he has to in order to protect his cover.

THOUGHTS

This was disturbing and may require you leaving your comfort zone. However, it's no different than what I've seen in the movies, and I've watched worst. For some, romance and erotica takes you away to another fantasy world that you can escape to, but this story is different in the form of dark erot...more

I cannot stress enough that people should read and heed the warnings on this book. This is not for anyone who cannot handle graphic depictions of sexual violence. When I say graphic I mean detailed descriptions of rape and physical assault.

I really respect the author for putting those warnings on this story. That is part of why I took a look at the sample chapter in the first place. Despite the content of the book and my feelings about them, the use of a strong warning is something that I wish...more

Wow, this was REALLY fucking intense! I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. I guess the 2 star rating was because it was just a little too intense for me, but it shouldn't be a reflection of the writing. I think it was very well done and I was honestly trembling at some points and squeezing the life out of my Nook.

In some ways I wish it had ended after 32 pages because there was a hard beginning but then sweet resolution that made it worth it and it was all wrapped up nicely... but that is...more

Skye explores different forms of rape through her character Rachael, telling as in the first person of her events at the hands of a violent gang. There's nonconsensual non violent rape, in which the victim is angry with herself and her perpetrator for her arousa, that she tries to deny. An unwilling rapist, who has to stay in role as an FBI undercover man, Zachary and the emotional toil he goes through, having to rape in order to protect the girl from the violent alternatives. How Rachel takes c...more

I have mixed feelings about this book so this review may not be very articulate. Under the spoiler tag is my spoilerish review.

(view spoiler)[I thought that this novella had a pretty interesting premise. Kidnapped young woman in the hands of gang members with intentions of rape, torture, and possibly murder. Meets a gang member with a bit of a conscience who rapes her in order to protect her. Initially, this rang a bit false with me because 1) she lies passively to be raped and 2) the "...more

Damn Rachel cannot get a brake! This is a dark non-consensual story of forming an unlikely bond. Rachel is abducted by a gang who plan to rape her for fun. Zachary steps in and claims her. In order to protect her from others he must rape her himself. Sad, sad situation. Rachel is confused by what she feels during this encounter because of the very mixed signals that she is getting from this man. She luckily lives through her encounter and makes it to the hospital. It is here that she receives an...more

This week I will be going to the dark side and reading three books in Skye Warren's dark erotica series ...I think. I'm not so sure after reading Keep Me Safe. I'm not even sure that I was kept safe while reading this book. What do I mean? I've read some very dark books in the past, but this one is quite different than any I've read before.

There is sex on the very first page of this book! Holy erotica, Batman! Sex. On. The. First. Page. But not just any sex...rape. Consensual rape! What an oxymo...more

This was one of those books that makes you cringe and wonder wtf you just read. I downloaded this upon recommendation for something similar to the Dark Duet series. I have to say that this is so many times darker and more distressing than the CJ Roberts book.

The hero made me want to cut his dick off. How does a good guy get off on raping the heroine upon meeting her and then saying when he sees her again that he wants to do it again? I would go so far as to say that there is absolutely no real h...more

I tried erotica years ago and was bored to tears...felt like I was reading someone's laundry list of sex acts. Snooze. This was no different, except worse because the sex acts that weren't boring, were being perpetuated by men described as unattractive, unclean, oh and brutal to boot (not the sexy sort of brutal, but the actual "Oh shit this is highly unpleasant, horrifying and painful" brutal)...so not my idea of any sort of fantasy lol!! And I am totally into the whole non-consensual thing...bu...more

Please note in order for me to review this book there are a few small spoilers.

I came to read this book because I saw one of my friends at Goodreads had read it and thought it might be a little bit like Captive in the Dark which I loved. This book is written in the first person POV by Rachel and the story starts with Rachel who has been kidnapped by a local gang. In a twisted way to protect her from more violence she is raped by Zachary who is one of the members.

Now this is a pretty grim book i...more

I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was bold, brave and the writing itself was good. I really loved the fact that the author explored the darker aspects of humanity, and did so with out sugarcoating or fear.

The story starts out with a rape. Sort of. The main character, Rachel, really doesn't seem to mind because her rapist, Zachary, is good looking and gentle. He seems very remorseful during the act, and we find out later why. I will say, I absolutely loved that plot twist.

I had to process what I read so it took me a few days to formulate my thoughts about this book as well as the series. I read the entire series, at least the 3 books that are out now, this weekend.

I MUST preface this by saying if you are NOT into Dark Erotic Romance this is not the book for you. Dubious consent and acts of violence are present in this book. I know that for some readers the subject matter is too strong and the author gives fair warning about this series.
