The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic was written by Suzi Case. Ms. Case contacted me about reading this book and after reading the synopsis, I thought it sounded great, right up my alley. This is a very fast read, with lots of humor and a great idea. It just never all came together for me.
The story is told from the point of view of Maggie, the main character. Try as I might, I just couldn't like her. It made it very hard for me to enjoy the story, honestly. Her incessant lying and sheer stu...more

Author Suzi Case gave me the opportunity to read and review “The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic”. I’m a romance junkie so this title immediately grabbed my attention. Maggie’s a very real character with flaws and insecurities and dreams that continue to go ignored. I enjoyed her wit and laughed several times while reading this story. I could relate with several of her thoughts and actions. The many humorous parts of the story could not however outshine my many dislikes. Although Maggie is...more
I really enjoyed reading this book. The major cons were that it was fairly predictable and of course all the unfinished business at the ending. The Pros? I loved the characters. They were very easy to relate to. I adored Maggie and her supportive friends. I wish I had girlfriends like hers. Blake is a sweet guy who is genuine. The joking and friendship between Maggie & Blake is much like a friend I have had most of my life. The author nailed it. Overall it's a feel good and believable story...more
This book is about Maggie. Maggie reminds me of your typical woman. She wants to lose weight, meet a man, likes her job but would rather be doing something else. Basically, this book tells the story of Maggie's life for a few months. She goes on dates, has fights with her friends, pines after guys, etc. I was very bored with this book; I felt like all it was was Maggie complaining about her life. It was exactly like real life, which is boring. No body wants to read about what goes on in your act...more

The heroine of this story is the epitome of a chick in a chick lit story. Not so perfect but real and honest. The story has a lot of humor and just plain silliness that I really enjoyed. I also really liked the diary style. I was disappointed a bit with the ending although it seems like there will be a sequel it left me hanging a little too much. Otherwise very entertaining!
I was approached by the author for a review of this book. No compensation has been received for a positive review. All opinions in this review are my honest opinions after reading the book.
I wasn't sure about reviewing this book. I'm super picky about my chick-lit and tend to shy away from it unless it's an author that I know or has been recommended to me by friends, so it was an absolute pleasant surprise when I got into this story and fell instantly in love with it.

Reading the pages of a diary seems so voyeuristic and with the comedy and thought process of the writer the developement is just plain fun. Following the life of Maggie Lane is fun and interesting through the pages of her diary. Her love life and her friendships are much of what we experience and the fun is unique enough to suck you in. This is a strange and addictive read, one I found hard to put down.

The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic is an entertaining and engaging read. Its heroine, Maggie Lane, is reminiscent of Bridget Jones with her cluelessness and crazy antics. The author, Suzi Case, proves to have a command for writing hilarious and cringe-worthy scenes within a first person diary format. Though her secondary characters are not well developed, her main character makes up for it. Maggie seems real and easy to connect with. She isn’t a perfect heroine and struggles with real lif...more

I really enjoyed the humor in this book, it had me giggling out loud. And I could really relate to Maggie Lane. Maggie had a list of things she wanted to do by age thirty. She has three years to achieve these goals. First she needed to lose weight and yet after a minute or so of running she would be exhausted, ditto. She also wanted to write childrens books, all the ideas were in her head but she was too lazy to put put them on paper. Her dog...more

This story reminds me of Bridget Jones's Diary but it’s a very entertaining read all on its own. Maggie is such a fun character that one cannot but love her instantly. But I expected a little more drama when Gayle told her who she was dating considering her crush on the guy. I liked the restaurant scene but she forgave Gayle way too quickly. And what’s with the ending? When everything seems to unravel the story ends.
I was a bit irritated with Blake for continually calling Maggie the nickname, Maggie Moo. It seems insulting and reminiscent of a reference to a fat cow. I was also frustrated Maggie could not figure out about Blake's "partner." Toss in a few grammatical errors and that's why this ended up 2 instead of 3 stars.

I kind of felt as if this book were my guilty pleasure the past few days. On one hand it was a cute, light hearted story that as a fellow hopeless romantic I could relate to. On the other hands there were several times I wanted to scream and/or slap the main character for being so oblivious. All in all towards the end I couldn't put it down and was annoyed to get to the last page only to find out it leaves you hanging. I'm all for sequels but this one just stops mid air. Not a big fan of cliffha...more

My true rating on this is 2 and 3/4 stars, but I've rounded this up to 3.
This is written along the same lines as Bridget Jones Diary. The heroine of the story is a flighty, self-centered, weight-obsessed young woman in her late twenties, who makes a lot of assumptions about the people around her.
The story is fairly humorous and entertaining, but incredibly short and ended quite abruptly. I realize the author was probably...more

Well. At the beginning I found it a little boring she, the MC Maggie babbled about nothing interesting and then about a third of the way through it got interesting I skipped over the useless babbling and just read the funny bits which there were a lot of. I was really enjoying it and then the end totally sucked. I can see the author did it so she could get another book out of the story but there was really no need, she should of maybe come up with a whole new set of characters for another story....more
Maggie has more involvement with her diary than she does men in real life, but not for lack of trying. Trouble is, Maggie has aspirations that are just a bit too high to attain. She has a crush on Ben, but hides it. She is an impromptu liar but never mean; she just embellishes too much. Then the childhood best friend of her brother pops back in her life and Maggie develops a crush on him too.

My words of advice to the author--- GET A PROOFREADER! Even if you are self-published, find your high school English teacher or someone to proofread your book. The story was really cute. The character was endearing. However, the closer to the end of the book I got, the more rushed the writing seemed. The grammatical and punctuation errors at the end were so distracting, I couldn't focus on the book. This author has a great character development talent, but needs polishing to be more professional...more
This is a light and fluffy romantic comedy. Maggie was a bit dense, but I loved her anyway. I found her to be very relatable. And Blake...I adored him. I liked how the chapters all started with diary entries to hint at what was going to happen. I was left hanging at the end though. I am looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens in Maggie's life.
It has been a long time since I have read a book, about myself! :) Or was able to so totally relate to a character before. I laughed, I cried and I FELT. What a great way to relate to people. I loved this book! The only part I didn't like is that the second book is not available yet! :( But it will be, and I will own it!
