I've been reading Greg F. Gifune's work for many years, and he never fails to disappoint. From "Bleeding Season" to "Heretics" to "Apartment 7" and "Dreams the Ragman" it's hard to find one of his books that won't touch, entertain, or frighten you on some level. "Lords of Twilight" is no exception.

Great book. Classic Gifune. Unsettling, compelling, deeply emotional, and downright scary. A man (Lane) on the edge emotionally and psychologically, snowed in with no one but his puppy (Vince) for company is dealing not only with ghosts from his past but what may be a very real other-worldly threat. A man in a dilemma of sorts divorced and missing his wife. His only real companion at present is a man best friend a puppy. It's fine company animals but way out in a middle of no where is not the best place to live especially if you have unwelcome visitors that wish destruction and manipulation. I have read a few works by Gifune now, and I can positively say that LORDS OF TWILIGHT was not one of his stronger tales. Where Gifune regularly succeeds in articulating interesting and compelling characters who interact with strange and at times horrific circumstances, he unfortunately fell short with LoT.

Really enjoyed this book. On the surface it's a scary book about a small town haunted by ufos, which is an enjoyably creepy concept. Underneath, it's a study of a man who's made mistakes and is having a nervous breakdown.
Very well written and to the point, I would recommend this, and will definitely be reading other books by this author.

An isolated town in Maine, a N'oreaster and UFOs set the stage for this dark novella. Lane lives alone in his isolated home in his isolated town with not much else other than his puppy, Vince, and his overwhelming sense of guilt. What better setting could you ask for?
I would highly recommend this one for fans of ambiguous and dark fiction.

Is there a place past loneliness, regret, and loss? The Lords of Twilight know.
I was expected a more disturbing story, but what I did get was good enough. A middle of the road read. I love Gifune's writing style.
