**Review**
It's no surprise that I love Tamara Rose Blodgett's Death Series. Before this book I didn't think my love for her could get any more profound and deep. I was wrong. I have the biggest author crush on her. Is that even a real thing? Well it is now.
This book was masterfully done. Caleb and crew certainly grew up ALOT in this one. The one lines and snark are still there in spades...more OMGEEEZ. Geekin out here!!!! Gotta get my shit together to write a review that will do this book some justice!
**Review**
It's no surprise that I love Tamara Rose Blodgett's Death Series. Before this book I didn't think my love for her could get any more profound and deep. I was wrong. I have the biggest author crush on her. Is that even a real thing? Well it is now.
This book was masterfully done. Caleb and crew certainly grew up ALOT in this one. The one lines and snark are still there in spades. However, Caleb is learning the real consequences of his actions. Not just from his court case and probation but from some problems that arise between himself and a certain member of the group. As Caleb says later in the book "Complications, Complications the story of my life".

Tamara-you almost gave me a heartattack toward the end of the book with all the crap you did to Gramps. I was like oh, no, she isn't going to kill my favorite character!

Even know I knew it was coming the cameo by the Savage folks was awesome. I was surprised to see that it felt more rounded and expanded in this book. Probably because I knew both side of the story. Reading the Savage series will help your understanding of the "Dome" world but it is not necessary. Tamara is a supremely talented writer and she gives the reader just enough background and information to understand what the heck is going on. Think of this as a teaser for one of her other beautiful worlds (that I am also completely in love with).
Now to the man of the hour. CLYDE!!!! Clyde was present in a big way in this book. Honestly half the characters would not be alive if not for his supremeo awesome awesomesauce! Take a look:

"Master," Clyde breathed. My *spoiler*, my zombie.
My friend.
He turned his head to the side and a very human emotion stood there
Fear and grief, mingled in a bitter pill of stark realization.
"Save her" he begged.
I grabed *spoiler's* small hand and felt death on the edges of her. I could taste it.
I took some of the life I'd given Clyde and siphoned it off him for *spoiler*. As she bloomed like a flower, his spark faded.
The action is BIG TIME in this novel and it showcases Tamara's beautiful writing style perfectly. CLYDE owned the show. I'm not kidding even Caleb acknowledges this "I smiled at Clyde, he got shit done". Yes, Yes he does. This book is simply amazing. If you are one of those people that doesn't like/trust glowing 5 star reviews---well it is simply impossible to dumb this book down to 3 stars. Sorry I cannot do that, nor do I want to, nor will I ever! You cannot make me.
Now to compose a super stalkerish love letter to Tamara---kids---I already sent one of those months ago!

This series has been on my radar for quite some time now. I actually bought DEATH WHISPERS last summer, I think, and planned to read it at some point. So when the author asked if I might review the series, I knew the time had come.

So what did I think of the DEATH series? I really liked it. The concept was original and smart. Basically, scientist mapped out the human genome and then developed the capability to expand paranormal abilities. Every school-aged child is given a drug cocktail that enhance said abilities. When the children reach puberty, their bodies aren't the only things to develop. Each teen's ability manifests in a different way. Some may become Empaths. Others may become Telepaths, or Telekenesis, or the biggie Affinity for the Dead(AftD). Caleb Hart, series hero, has AftD, and he's the son of the scientist partially responsible for the discovery. Lucky boy. Good thing Caleb has the "J's", his best friends John and Jonesy, and his new girlfriend, Jade. Add in supportive, if quirky, parents and Caleb has support on all fronts.

Beyond the original concept, I love how Blodgett expanded on the story. Caleb and his friends would struggle to survive and solve one complicated scenario, then another would crop up. The first book begins with Caleb, John and Jonesy trying to get the school bullies off their backs. Then they must avoid Caleb, because of his unique abilities, being exploited by the government. Even when Caleb gets out of hot water, the Greysheets are always watching him. And when he's not dealing with the Greysheets, Jade's abusive father is on his case. Oh, and the Affinity for the Dead ability? Not only is Caleb saddled with that, he is also a Cadaver-Manipulator. A necromancer. The dead that Caleb raise obey him, faithfully. He can use them to scare his bullies, or to ward off the bad guys. And sometimes, he loses control of his minions. Not good.

I mentioned the support cast, but they all play a huge role in the books. I really enjoyed Caleb. His voice felt very authentic. He was snarky and sarcastic, but also caring to those he loves. Throughout the series, Caleb is put to the test. He makes some dangerous, unwise choices at times, but mostly for the right reasons. His best friends, the J's, were very funny and always had Caleb's back. I adored Jade. Jade comes from a rough background. She has an alcoholic, abusive father. She was removed from the home and lives in the care of her aunt. A lot of people judge her, but Caleb only sees her for herself, a girl he's crazy about. Their caring, slow-building relationship was probably my favorite aspect of the story. Call me a romantic. Their relationship doesn't exactly go smoothly, though. Jacob's abilities, her family, and circumstances beyond their control put them to the test. And lastly, Caleb's parents, Kyle and Alicia. I found them to be funny, a great source of comic relief. And most importantly, they're present. They play an actual, big, part in the stories.

So...I do have to say that while I did like Caleb and the snark, it did begin to wear on me after a while. I just felt the internal and external quippiness was a bit much. But, to be fair, teenage boys are a bit much at times, so there's that. ;-) Also, Caleb likes the word "retarded". A lot. Like, he says it so much, it's like he's trying to make a point that he'll say it just because he can. I know words only have the power we give them, but I've never liked that one. So that did bug me. But, I will say that as the series progresses and Caleb matures, he does ease up on the annoying language.
Also, the villains sometimes felt a bit cartoonish to me.

The DEATH SERIES was, overall, a really fun, unique ride. The scientific aspect was clever. The characters were funny and memorable. The action never stops. I think this series would certainly be a hit with teens, specifically teen boys.

Be prepared to visit the entire spectrum of emotions as you read this harrowing novel, especially as Caleb must battle not only the physical threats around him, but also his inner turmoil and rage, a constant threat to tho...more This was an intense read. If you’ve read The Savage Vengeance, then part of this novel involving the sphere will already be known to you, but Blodgett does a great job altering the scene so it focuses more of the teens in this version, than on the Band as in The Savage Vengeance version. And… unbeknownst to us readers when we first read TSV, but Caleb and his friends don’t just visit once, but twice—the second of which is the most savage and heart pounding or the two encounters (and if you’ve read TSV, then you know just how heart stopping the first encounter was!!!) .

I was on pins and needles throughout this entire novel, worried for the safety of everyone, but especially the females as worlds collide and the Graysheets willingly subject their own “creations” to highly evil circumstances. While I hate to ever add a spoiler in my reviews, I think it is important to note that there is no rape in this novel, or in any of Blodgett’s other novels, for that matter. While the fragment do exploit women, Blodgett has never written in a rape scene, or had anything so vile happen to any of her female characters. I think it is important to note this because, as a female, I know that I shy away from all novels that deal with such a vile, touchy topic, and sometimes so much as the fear of an allusion to rape will cause me to refrain from picking up a novel. So, readers, rest assured, no females are raped in this novel, though there are close encounters.

One of the things that I really love about Blodgett is how real her characters and situations are, even though elements of the paranormal are throughout the entire story. Blodgett captures the truth that is growing up and coming of age. The friendships, humor, heartache, and anger, are all present and very real. I especially loved how, in this novel, Blodgett tests Caleb and Jade’s connection, presenting truths to both that they were previously blind to, and I am highly interested to see where their relationship goes in future novels...

I’m not sure where to begin this review or what to say. I loved this book so much! If you do read this book, you should read Blodgett’s Savage series because there is crossover. If you happened to read my review of Savage Vengeance or if you read the book, then you know a little bit of what happened. Read my review here. This book was soooo good. Tamara combined SAVAGE with DEATH and made it wonderful. Caleb is on probation for using Clyde to defend himself against his old Sensei who was targeting the AP girls & Jade. Jade is now in a foster home since her Aunt passed away. They're really weird. This book starts after Caleb is arrested for using his zombies as weapons, he got off with probation. Dealing with all the problems of his trial and the tension it causes all those he loves is not the only problems he and his crew are facing this book. The greysheets are doing their best to take him out, but they are not going at it too his face like they have before, this time it is much more sneaky and deadly to those he loves. His heart is in jeapordy as well. There is only so much Caleb can...more

So glad that Caleb is growing up as far as his vocabulary. If it hadn't been for the awesome storyline, I would have put this series down. This definitely gets my vote for best series I have read this year. Seems fitting since Unrequited Death comes out December 31! Cant wait!

oh, my lord, i am so in love with these books!!! Clyde is by far my favorite character. i'm a weirdo anyway but to fall in love with a semi well dead man, RIGHT UP MY ALLEY lol....sorry my puncuation sucks :/ i don't care. i just had to tell you how much i LOVE LOVE LOVE all your books, all of them. i'm starting Savage book 3 and i would have started it tonight had i not realised Weeps was available, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...i may finish it in a few hours and start on the 3rd savage, lol!! i can't wait...more
