Beth Bracken's book about Henry and his new baby sister Penny is really cute. At first, he isn't sure what to make of this noisy little creature. His mother tells him that she needs lots of help because she is so little. So, Henry quickly finds ways to help his parents with the baby, such as bringing the burp cloth after a feeding and finding her hat before a walk. He really is sweet with her as he sings her lullabies and kisses her when she c...more

Henry helps take care of Penny, his infant sister. He likes to get the things she needs. If Penny’s diaper needs changed, Henry gets a clean diaper. He finds Penny’s hat when everyone goes on a walk. At bath time, Henry shares his bath toys, and when Penny is hungry, Henry shares mom. Henry is a very attentive brother and intuitive. When his sister cries he gives her a kiss. At bedtime, Henry will sing Penny a lullaby. Henry is helpful around the house doing little things to help. These small re...more
This is a fabulous book and I would love to have a copy to read over and over again with my toddler as she is learning everyday how to be a good big sister. Sometimes I see a bit of the jealous as she is uncertain of her new role and trying to figure out how we all fit in. We try very hard to make sure she gets the praise when she helps out and show her how important being a helper and big sister really is for her. Sometimes it is easy to get carried away ohhing and ahhing and it's great to have...more
Although he isn't particularly thrilled with the family's new addition, Henry comes to realize that taking care of a baby is lots of work. By helping with Penny, his new sister, Henry comes to appreciate Penny and all the work and responsibilities associated with a baby. I like the positive message that Henry still has his own place in the family, and Penny depends on him. This would be a great title for anyone whose child is experiencing a feeling of displacement. The illustrations contain brig...more
This is a great little series. I like it for two reasons. First it encourages kids to 'help' and be apart of the family and it is also just a cute story! I love the illustrations and because the language is simple it also makes a good early reader! This one got me a little misty eyes, because it was just so dare cute and it was a warm fuzzy that brother helped!

In this book, Henry was his mom’s helper with his new baby sister. My 2yr old has been a little jealous of the baby, so we thought this book would help him see himself as an important helper and protector. My son listened but he didn’t seem as enthralled as I was. I think he prefers funny stories and more rhymes. My 4yr old enjoyed the story more, but she didn’t asking me to read it again. So it wasn’t a home run for our family.
