Deceived (Gwen Sparks #2)
by
Stephanie Nelson (Goodreads Author)
The vampire drug, brew, nearly ruined Gwen Sparks’ life. Just when things started to get back to normal between her and Aiden, she is summoned by the North American Witches Council to their central city of Moon. A war is imminent between vampires and witches, and Gwen’s experiences with brew are being used to fuel the fire. She is about to discover just how powerful she is...more

Gwen is still dealing with the consequences of her accidental bonding with the evil Ian when she is summoned to Moon by the Witch's Council. Holly, the Council lead wants a war with the vampires. She says it is the only way to effectively end the consumption of blood and Gwen is her secret weapon.
Gwen is a spirit walker and a steamy Angel of Death, Dorian, is called in to train her. Meanwhile, Aiden is working to break the bond with Ian, but that means dealing with the nasty Vampire Council. Th...more

I really enjoyed the first book in the Gwen Sparks series by Stephanie Nelson, Craved. Getting to know Gwen and her friends Fiona, Micah, and especially Aiden (hubba, hubba), as well as learning all about the town of Flora and the interactions between different species in the paranormal world. Gwen's irreverent sense of humor and sensualistic nature made for some very compelling reading!!
I was looking forward to reading Book 2, Deceived, and it was still a good read, but much, much darker than...more

MICHELLE'S REVIEW:
RATING : 3.75 STARS!
Dorian Hade..... and that is all I really need to say.....nah just kidding I can say more. Well, if Dorian didn’t swoop in and steal my heart?
I must have a thing for reapers, I am Team Tod in the Soul Screamers series and I am waving Dorian’s flag like a fan girl. I LOVE the way Stephanie writes this guy. I love the angst and the tense moments. I really enjoy the moments Gwen and Dorian are together as it’s not about bonking, it’s much more. Gwen and Dorian...more

Just when Gwen thought her life was as insane as ever, she is contacted by the NAWC (North American Witches Council). The NAWC want to initiate a war against the vampires since they won't do anything to stop vampires from using Brew, witches' blood. So things are worse for Gwen since none of the witches trust her since she is dating Aiden who is a vampire. But they need her since she has a...more

After reading Craved, I wasn't really sure what direction Deceived would take other than the obvious insinuation that Gwen Sparks would be betrayed in some sense. What I discovered shocked me. Poor Gwen is betrayed more than once and her life is turned upside down. In Craved, she had learned that she was actually part Spirit Walker, which meant she had a connection with ghosts. At least that's all she thought it was. In reality she has a connection with the entire world of the dead including bei...more
Love me some Gwen Sparks, the modern day witch that everyone who enjoys YA paranormal should welcome into their home! Not only is she witty, but her sassy tongue in cheek humor and her take no crap demeanor gets me every time...in this follow up to Craved (which I loved just as much by the way) she is pursuing her relationship with Aiden, the sexy vampire who has pursued her since the first book, Craved, and he is still trying to help her figure out a means to an end on discovering how to destro...more

Nice continuation of the Gwen Spark's series and set in a different location this time around. I thought it was a more cohesive storyline overall compared to the first book which had me lost a few times.
The title 'Deceived' is quite appropriate as Gwen finds out who she can trust or not. I felt sorry for Gwen at times with all the issues that she had to deal with and with her personality type she cannot ignore them and all this happens while she attempts to rid herself of her bond to...more

Gwen's been called to Moon, the city where the NAWC make their home, as the Witches Council decide to take matters into their own hands over Brew (a highly addictive vampire "drug" which puts witches in harms way since it's their blood that's the drug). Head of the Council, Holly, has decided it's time for Gwen to come into her power so she can be the Council's "secret weapon". This means Gwen must train with the Angel of Death, Dorian, to fully discover what it means to be a spirit walker.

Two things we can learn from this book: One, nothing is as it seems and two, trust only yourself. Yeah, that’s right, Gwen is going to be really surprised in this book and you will love it! “Deceived” is the second book in the Gwen Sparks series by Stephanie Nelson and it’s a book I enjoyed.
Witches and vampires are going to war. Now that vampires know that witches’ blood gives them power, the witches believe that they have to stop them from taking it. Gwen is in a very difficult position because...more

War is brewing and the witches are called in to start training for it.
Somehow Gwen is tasked to be the secret weapon. (even after the story, I wondered what that really means)... Anyway, with her rare abilities, an Angel of Death is called in to train her.
Trying to discover and accept her new abilities, Gwen also has to participate in politics. If that isn't enough a new triangle is introduced too.

A lot was revealed in this second installment of the Gwen Sparks series. New characters were introduced and some faded away. It looks like Gwen and Fiona may not be friends for much longer. I rather like Dorian. Glad to see him sticking around a while. I still like Aiden, so I wonder what's going to happen there after the secrets have been revealed.

On my the series gets more intriguing as Stephanie Nelson continues the journey of Gwen Sparks. I don't want to let out any spoilers on the second book Deceived because you will just have to read and enjoy the roller coaster that I rode while reading it. Gwen comes to moon wanting to help but who is truly helping her. What do they want in return. What will she learn. She gave everything up family and friends for magic. What can magic give her. She learns to connect with her spirit walker-side bu...more
The writer is technically pretty good, and I enjoyed the plot development. I was half-way thru the book when I realized why I felt so wishy-washy about the series; while the story is well written it has no real emotional development. The reader is aware of what is happening, but there is no real passion to draw the reader into the characters themselves. This lack of emotion takes away a lot of possibilities from this storyline (of the whole series) and I can only shake my head that these good st...more
This is the second book in the Gwen Sparks series. I read this book for Promotional Book Tours.
I love this series and was glad to see there will be a 3rd book. I can’t wait for it to come out.
Poor Gwen, nothing is as it seems. She has no idea who to trust and what is going on. The Witches and the Vampires are at war. What she doesn’t need is another man in her life when in pops Dorian the Angel of Death.
Everyone wants something from Gwen but no one is telling her everything about the situation a...more

This is the second book in the Gwen Sparks series, boy do I hope she plans to write more and fast. This last book leaves some emotional issues unresolved and even though the big war is for the most part taken care of I find the Gwen's up in the air relationships bother me a lot. This book irritated the hell out of me with all the plot twists and back stabbing I wanted to scream at the book GWEN!!! I truly forgot just how infuriatingly annoying this character is. How stupid can you possibly get?
Her learning curve seems to be depreciating rather than heading upwards and onwards to the apex of the bell curve. How has she not managed to get topped crossing the road, and has made it on to adulthood?
She has supposedly already realised that the bureacracy is using her for their own ends and has less integrity than a rabid dog. She is misrepresented and dishonestly manipulated before her very e...more

We pick up with Gwen almost immediately after the end of "Craved". Her life has been thrown into complete chaos, and isn't about to get any easier. The council has decided to go to war with the Vampires and she is going to be their secret weapon - whether she likes it or not.
I loved this book - there are so many amazing elements jam packed into 160 some pages. We meet several new characters, including Dorian and Kye and get to see some old faces - Fiona, Ethan and Holly; who we met previously in...more

uh, Aiden. Wtf bro! I was rooting for you!

That little deceit came out of nowhere, I feel like..
Was the author just sick of Aiden? Also, can we please stop have everyone vying for Gwen's attention? Just have one guy like her, please? I am tired of seeing these love traingles or love rectangles!
And tsk tsk, Gwen. Keep your eyes to yourself. You're supposed to be in a committed relationship with Aiden. If you find yourself getting attracted to Dorian 90% of the time you see him, maybe you shou...more

So many paranormal fantasy end up with love triangles as a central problem. I have said on many occasions that I am not a fan especially in adult fiction. While I tolerate them in YA, I feel that adults should be able to recognize the difference between physical attraction and actual love. I am happy to say that Stephanie Nelson handles this issue with brilliance.

The colors on this cover were so pretty. The colors just popped aganist the dark background. I loved this book a lot. Gwen was such a great heroine. She was no pushover at all. I love for my heroines to be strong and take charge.
We start this story out by learning Gwen has to help the witches in a war aganist vampires. Gwen is conflicted because she is currently dating a vampire named Aiden. Aiden was such a great character. He was so willing to to do anything for her. He also allowed Gwen to be...more

Today's review is on Deceived by Stephanie Nelson
Deceived is the second book in Nelson's Gwen Sparks series and all I have to say is OMG! Sex, Lies, and danger await the reader in this FANGTASTIC book. Nelson doesn't hold anything back, and continues to write a story that has me on the edge of my seat, neglecting my household chores, and keeping me up all night as I just could NOT put this book down.

The long awaited, highly anticipated second book in Stephanie Nelson's "Gwen Sparks series" does not disappoint. In fact, I had a very hard time putting it down after I began reading it.
We see Gwen develop more in this installment; discovering what it means to be a spirit walker and training to use her powers. Enter new character, Dorian, Angel of Death, and hot guy extraordinaire (see Teaser Excerpt above if you need a small refresher!)

Wow, I love when a second book is even more better then the first, its not something I get to say often!! But Deceived was just that, I loved it!!!
This book we learn a lot more about Gwens power, and there is a lot to learn. Then in walks this sexy Angel of Death who had me saying screw Aiden and lets have some fun with Dorian.lol (man I am so loyal.) Don't worry Aiden fans he is still around and we get many many fun and sexy scenes with him, but by the end of the book I think you will all by on...more
On the first book Gwen complained that if Micah loved her enough he would have turn his back on werewolf heritage - that he should marry another werewolf and breed - to be with her.
She did the same thing with Aiden - when Holly asked her to choose, she chose the witches council even though Holly specifically said that she must give up Aiden.
She still continued to see him but it was never the same.
When Gwen told Holly that she was bonded to Ian I knew that Holly had a relationship with Ian. I n...more

(4.5) This is the second installment of the Gwen Sparks series! Stephanie continues to do a wonderful job of creating new unique characters and a great storyline! Gwen's story continues with all the drama from the last installment in full swing and ends the same way! You are hanging on until the last word and left wanting more! I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far! I look forward to the third installment that comes out this summer!

This book was quite a bit better than the first one. I'm not sure if it's because:
a)I now know the characters good enough.
b)The manipulation of the characters were intense.
c)The book was just written better.
Either way this book was a lot better, it grasp my attention. However I'm still not feeling that emotional link with the characters like I do with other novels similar to this. I really hope I will because I absolutely abhor not being able to have that connection. It's like 50% of the reason...more

This book was amazing. I have to agree that it was better then the first. That's hard to believe because the first one was so good! I loved the new characters, especially Dorian. The book has so many twists and turns its hard to anticipate whats going to happen next, but those are the kind of books you can't help but love because you can't put them down. I didn't even sleep and read right on through the night till I was done. Can't wait till the next one! Stephanie is an amazing writer and I am...more
I am a HUGE supernatural fan and up until the past year was NOT a fan of paranormal romance. The main reason for this is most of the paranormal romances I read were more romance than story. I like a good story with a side of romance. One of the stories that changed my mind was Craved by Stephanie Nelson. This is a good story. Deceived was no different. Gwen is just as hot in this book and Aidan is EVEN hotter (he is tied for me with C.G Powell’s character Tam). Gwen has been thrown into another...more
Awesome series. I like Dorian! I think I'll root for him. I never did like Aiden. I hope she doesn't trust him ever again. I say, once you're a liar, always a liar. I can't wait to find out Kye's story, and for more Dorian/Gwen flirtations. I wish she would be involved in more magic than whining about how she doesn't understand anyone's plans. She should just take control and go for it. Oh well, this is an entertaining series that I think gets looks over. I recommend it! though, the books are a...more

Stephanie Nelson resides in Illinois with her husband and their furry children. She began writing five years ago as a hobby and quickly fell in love with storytelling. She’s been teased about being a vampire due to her night-owl ways. However, she claims to only write about the fanged and not be part of their ranks. When she’s not working on the next Gwen Sparks or Anna Avery adventure, she enjoys...more
