I really enjoyed the first book in the Gwen Sparks series by Stephanie Nelson, Craved. Getting to know Gwen and her friends Fiona, Micah, and especially Aiden (hubba, hubba), as well as learning all about the town of Flora and the interactions between different species in the paranormal world. Gwen's irreverent sense of humor and sensualistic nature made for some very compelling reading!!

Talk Supe came through for me again and loaned this to me. I absolutely loved Craved and Deceived was even better. The title says it all. I didn't want to believe it would happen, but you knew it was coming. Not to mention, Talk Supe rubbed it in. So mean guys! But if Stephanie Nelson isn't on your favorites list by now, what are you waiting for?

Gwen has once again kicked a lot of ass in this book. She discovers she has a lot of power. So much so, that the witches want her to play a major role in the war against the vampires. They do believe she is a traitor since she is with Aiden, but they want her power and will train her to use it. She will be their secret weapon. She has the power to astral project and speak to ghosts. But the witches want Gwen to speak to very specific ghosts. These ghosts are of people who were killed by the vampires themselves. Aiden and Gwen are combustible together and I am sure by the title, you know how things go. But I still want the whole story. Was it for personal gain or for Gwen? I am still not sure. I know this makes no sense unless you read it, it is hard not to spoil. I will stop right here.

Then we have Dorian. Oh Dorian!!!! I do enjoy Aiden, but Dorian is more up my alley. Definitely has that bad boy vibe and being an Angel of Death, that can't be more true. Someone said this and I am so glad they did because I thought it was just me. But something about Dorian reminds me of Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, so that is a plus. Dorian and Gwen have soooo much chemistry and he is hilarious. He definitely grabbed my attention quickly. I was unsure whether to trust him at first though since he was brought in by Holly. Holly is the lead witch of NAWC and hates Gwen, but wants her power. But she is definitely hiding something and I don't trust her at all. And then we have Ian. The guy is awful and evil and he definitely reminds you of that. He does something truly awful to Gwen in this book that left a really bad taste in my mouth.

This book was fast paced. Gwen wants to have a normal life so bad, but every time she turns around, she is placed in the middle of something. I love that she doesn't get onboard with the vampire-witch war because of Aiden. She actually fights for it and gets them to sit down in the same room together. That was definitely something I didn't think anyone could do. And the ending is insane. We figure out Ian's plan and who all the players are and my mouth was dragging to the floor. I need some answers right now. I am still thinking about it. This book definitely leaves a mark.

This series is a must-read! It is everything I want in an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance series. The characters are amazing especially Dorian. He was satisfying right up to the very last sentence which left a smile on my face. There are a few grammar/spelling issues, but they don't get in the way, trust me. This is a great modern day witch story. Deceived is sexy, full of intrigue, conspiracies, and plenty of mystery. Do not miss this series. After reading Craved, I wasn't really sure what direction Deceived would take other than the obvious insinuation that Gwen Sparks would be betrayed in some sense. What I discovered shocked me. Nice continuation of the Gwen Spark's series and set in a different location this time around. I thought it was a more cohesive storyline overall compared to the first book which had me lost a few times.

If you read Craved (book 1 in the Gwen Sparks Series), we met a Gwen Sparks who was trying to heal her broken heart and live a somewhat normal life. In Deceived, Gwen is torn between her desire to help the Witch Council rid the Brew issue and the Council's edict that all vampires are bad and must be eradicated. Considering her boyfriend is Adrian, a 600+ year old Italian vampire, that edict causes issues. Her other issue is being used as a "Secret Weapon" for the council. In addition to those pretty big issues, she also has a hard time dealing with the change in her and Fiona's relationship and her attraction to Dorian.

As a reader, it's almost like all of Gwen's emotions leap off the pages at you. Those emotions make it easy for you to connect with her and become engrossed in the storyline. She stands up for herself, is willing to go out on a limb for a cause she believes in and calls people on their BS when it's getting a little deep. She also someone who takes her powers for granted. It's refreshing to see her question why she should do something, just because she can. For Gwen alone I would love this series.

But Gwen isn't the only character that will draw you in. Adrian and Dorian both engage the readers at an emotional level. Adrian's feelings for Gwen are always right in front of you and while he may not always take the best path when trying to cement his relationship with Gwen, you always know what he feels for Gwen. Dorian on the other hand tries to mask his feelings, but when he does make them know you have to wonder how anyone can deny him.

Council drama, vampire politics, eradication of a shared enemy and the ultimate betrayal round out the plot to this second installment. It's witty, edgy, and emotional read. It will wrap you in the world of Gwen Sparks from the very first paragraph and make it almost impossible to put down.

But soon, Gwen, finds herself into a web of lies. Can she handle the truth?

Although, I really like Gwen from the first book, there were some things that I didn’t particularly like. For example, I think that she is easily attracted to other men. Of course, she didn’t do anything to be unfaithful but something wasn’t right. Another thing that I didn’t like, is that sometimes she was very judgmental to Aiden. Yes, she had good reasons but she didn’t even hear his side of the story! Nevertheless, Gwen was as always brave, strong and witty and she did her best under very difficult circumstances.

Aiden in this book had some problems. He did some mistakes in the past and now that the truth is out he knows that he has many things to lose. For some reason, I understand why he did what he did and I think that deserves a second chance, but I’m not sure if Gwen agrees with me!!

Dorian is a new character in the book. I liked him from the start because he’s a very confident man, he has sense of humor and he’s smart. It was obvious from the beginning that he wants Gwen. To be honest? For the first time, as a reader, I can’t decide whom I prefer to be with the female main character! I know that Aiden had secrets but it’s unfair to tell that he is bad. And Dorian, is a great guy! Tough choice!

Something else that it felt weird to me while I was reading the book is the behavior of Fiona. I really can’t imagine a best friend who acts like her. Although, she kept Gwen’s secrets and was there for her in some difficult moments, I had the feeling that her priorities were elsewhere and she was kind of bored when she was around Gwen! I hope I’m wrong!

Very nice plot in this second book of the series, and so, I’m looking forward for the next one!

Seriously, this girl gets played like a piano by just about everyone around her. The only one that didn't seem to be playing her was Dorian. It was obvious from the beginning that Holly could not be trusted. Still, it was never revealed just how it was found out that Aiden had been addicted to brew. Did Ian tell her? I don't think Ms. Ozland was the one that told. And what about Kye? Just how much does he know about what was going on behind the scenes? Could he be the one behind the email that Dorian found in Holly's office? Is anyone actually going to remember that that happened now that Gwen is set to go on trial?

How is Gwen going to prove her innocence? Why didn't she question what Holly revealed to her about Aura when she asked about the spirit that was in the cat? I hope she hasn't forgotten about that. There are a number of loose ends that I hope get resolved in the next book. Plus, although the Vampire Council didn't actually end up assisting in any way with Gwen breaking her bond to Ian (she handled that herself), will they still expect payment in drinking from her? If so, maybe she shouldn't have antagonized Alana the way she did. With what happened with Aiden, can he be trusted? Was he telling the truth about not caring about Ian's whacked out plan. Why was Ian smiling at the end? How long until something happens between Gwen and Dorian? A lot of questions, looking forward to some answers.

I enjoyed the excerpt of Taming the Wolf at the back. I'll be checking it out once it's released.(less)

The writer is technically pretty good, and I enjoyed the plot development. I was half-way thru the book when I realized why I felt so wishy-washy about the series; while the story is well written it has no real emotional development. The reader is aware of what is happening, but there is no real passion to draw the reader into the characters themselves. That little deceit came out of nowhere, I feel like..

So many paranormal fantasy end up with love triangles as a central problem. I have said on many occasions that I am not a fan especially in adult fiction. While I tolerate them in YA, I feel that adults should be able to recognize the difference between physical attraction and actual love. The colors on this cover were so pretty. The colors just popped aganist the dark background. I loved this book a lot. Gwen was such a great heroine. She was no pushover at all. I love for my heroines to be strong and take charge.

Deceived is the second book in Nelson's Gwen Sparks series and all I have to say is OMG! Sex, Lies, and danger await the reader in this FANGTASTIC book. The long awaited, highly anticipated second book in Stephanie Nelson's "Gwen Sparks series" does not disappoint. In fact, I had a very hard time putting it down after I began reading it.

Wow, I love when a second book is even more better then the first, its not something I get to say often!! But Deceived was just that, I loved it!!!

On the first book Gwen complained that if Micah loved her enough he would have turn his back on werewolf heritage - that he should marry another werewolf and breed - to be with her.
She did the same thing with Aiden - when Holly asked her to choose, she chose the witches council even though Holly specifically said that she must give up Aiden.

(4.5) This is the second installment of the Gwen Sparks series! Stephanie continues to do a wonderful job of creating new unique characters and a great storyline! Gwen's story continues with all the drama from the last installment in full swing and ends the same way! You are hanging on until the last word and left wanting more! I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far! I look forward to the third installment that comes out this summer!

This book was quite a bit better than the first one. I'm not sure if it's because:

a)I now know the characters good enough.
b)The manipulation of the characters were intense.
c)The book was just written better.

Either way this book was a lot better, it grasp my attention. However I'm still not feeling that emotional link with the characters like I do with other novels similar to this. This book was amazing. I have to agree that it was better then the first. That's hard to believe because the first one was so good! I loved the new characters, especially Dorian. The book has so many twists and turns its hard to anticipate whats going to happen next, but those are the kind of books you can't help but love because you can't put them down. I am a HUGE supernatural fan and up until the past year was NOT a fan of paranormal romance. The main reason for this is most of the paranormal romances I read were more romance than story. Awesome series. I like Dorian! I think I'll root for him. I never did like Aiden. I hope she doesn't trust him ever again. I say, once you're a liar, always a liar. I can't wait to find out Kye's story, and for more Dorian/Gwen flirtations. I wish she would be involved in more magic than whining about how she doesn't understand anyone's plans.
